The days when I used to watch the WWF/WWE all the time back in the day... Well I'm actually planning on watching this since it's been tradition for me to watch during "Wrestlemania season" and stop caring about it afterwards. Anyone else watching this year? Mostly watching it to see Attitude Era stars (can't wait to see The Rock back in action for once..) while everyone else I could really careless about.
Some of ya'll will probably judge me for watching it, but whatever, gotta bring back some memories you know :v:

Yikes, I used to be obsessed with wrestling when I was about 10. Thought Sting was the coolest guy on the planet. Sort of still do.

Sting was awesome back then. Still shocked he even still competes and from what I heard he still is pretty good considering his age. Hope he doesn't overstay his welcome like Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan have (last time I saw, they looked HORRIBLE...).

Only sort of wrestling coverage I get anymore is when I read a random article about it on Grantland.

I used to watch WWF way back. I stopped watching when they made it lame as hell, I remember the days when Kane couldnt be beaten by anyone and he was a beast. They even made undertaker pretty lame too.
The Rock is back? Is he as hilarious as before?

I mean he's back for like a match or something. He's been ok. Totally watered down since they've become more politically correct about things... Like everything else has. But quite frankly, it's just been good to see him back. Been hearing Brock Lesnar might appear on Sunday, which I'll totally welcome that since he was pretty good when he wrestled for them.

I see what you mean but its also about the whole package. The Rock was funny, and okay it was scripted but he was fully of charisma and charm.
But in terms of "5 time champion blah blah", yeah that basically means nothing as it is fixed.
Maybe I just loved it years ago because I was a kid, and at the time I never even thought it may be fake storylines.

Yea it's really about the whole package. I knew it was scripted and all but it was still pretty fun to watch as a kid, back when they were actually allowed to be more intense during promos and in the ring.

Not trying to be a dick or anything but...how do you enjoy movies and TV shows?
I mean most of them are faked and scripted.

Yeah, I gave up on ALL televised fighting "sports" once I found out they were all faked.
Then again, I don't find hand to hand combat entertaining. I see it as a survival skill.

UFC faked?????

In that it's "fake" fighting. Yes.
Fighting hand to hand is for defending your life, not some kind of testosterone filled manly touch-each-other-while-only-wearing-shorts gayfest.
None of the "fighting" techniques they use in televised fighting (boxing, wrestling, mixed martial arts, UFC, whatever) is something that would actually be useful outside of the ring. Well, it might be semi-useful in that you learn how to take a hit and throw a punch or kick, but that's not effective fighting.

they get on stage and smash each other with folding chairs. this is so far into the ridiculous zone that its just hilarious to watch. there is nothing serious about it, and if you try to watch it with any sort of serious attitude, youre doing it wrong.
E: now, whether or not you enjoy that sort of this is an entirely different discussion, lol.

What do you mean useful outside of the ring? Like, useful in every day life or useful if you get in an actual fight? Because if you are trained in mixed martial arts, I would imagine that that would be very useful if you get in a fight outside of the ring.
If someone hits you in the head with a baseball bat then your training won't be too effective, but it's not like it would make you any worse off than you would be already.

I mean in a real fight, and you're right if some thugs jumped you. I'm sure being trained in any kind of martial arts would come in handy.
However I'm talking about true hand-to-hand combat training which, short of joining the military, isn't something you really get taught anywhere else. It's all grappling and pressure/joint manipulation, kicking and punching is fine and all if you're a thug, but completely ineffective against someone trained in proper hand-to-hand.
I guess I never got into fighting as entertainment since I never got into fights. I took Karate when I was young and then took an optional hand-to-hand course in the Reserves after I had finished basic. In every instance I was always taught that fighting was for self-defense, especially in the hand-to-hand course. One of the first things they told us in the hand-to-hand course was that using any of techniques we were taught in a civilian fight could actually lead to charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
This is the opposite end of the fighting spectrum though, hand-to-hand combat is about trying to completely incapacitate and eventually kill your opponent with every successful move you make.
