View Full Version : The Avengers

Pretty surprised no one has posted about this yet...
So I saw the Avengers last night, and my word what a film it is. The start of the film is a little chatty but you know it's about to kick off so you can relax.
There are some really hilarious moments, I remember the whole cinema laughing out loud a couple of times :)
Anyone else seen it yet? What are your thoughts? I was a bit worried that each character wouldn't get enough 'face time', or that they wouldnt gel enough but wow, some of the fight sequences are amazing and really captured hte Avenger style.
My sister complained about Black Widow though, she hasnt really got any talents apart from good martial arts skills.

Alright, will do, if I can remember. Partying before I go, so hopefully I'll be able to keep an eye for what you're saying. Also, that's why I stopped drinking beverages at movies. I went to the bathroom during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at least four times.

Such a good movie. My only issue is that a set of scenes abused the "shake the camera like hell" method that directors often implement for effect. Other than that, this movie deserves the academy award for awesome.

Was pretty damn good. Did a really nice job of taking otherwise mediocre movies and tying them together. Worth my free ticket.

It is Robert Downey Jr. as Stark, and he plays it the same way yes.

Haha thats hilarious. You just know theres going to be a ton of gifs made when people pirate the camera version this movie is released on disc.
I've added a poll, because I forgot to say I watched it in 2d. I figured it would be rather eye-straining with over 2 hours 20 minutes and tons of special effects. Its the same reason I saw Transformers in 2d.
So answer the poll!

Yes but why was it linked with HawkEye and did they actually give specifics, or was it more like "I've got a dark past that I must try to tie up loose ends" etc.
Hate 3D films. Saw it in 2D.
Only film I've seen in 3D is Toy Story 3, which imo was a fantastic film to see in 3d, very vibrant colours and is completely animated and plus, gotta love Toy Story :D
Plus most 3d films add in those cheesy "things fly at the screen to please the 3d viewers" parts.

She said she had red on her ledger, you tools. Or something to that effect. Traditionally, you use black and red in accounting to signify credits and debits. If your net income is "in the red", it means you owe more money than you've made. She's just talking about the debt she owes to Hawkeye.

The 3D in it wasn't bad at all. Then again, I see life in 2D anyways, so... yea.
In all seriousness though, it was done well, just like every other aspect of the movie. The industry is pretty much over the LOOK IT'S 3D thing where they just throw things at the camera for the effect. Now it's just another way to view the film. They don't want you to focus on the 3D, they just want it to enhance the movie.

Wait you really see in 2d? Damn...Well when I close one eye, there isnt THAT much different.
I wanna say this sensitively, but as we are on the subject, do you actually see like 2 things? Like if your left is looks straight forward, do you also see something else with your right eye?
Llama Juice
May 9th, 2012, 12:24 AM
YOU'RE SO MEAN AND INSENSITIVE.
Apparently my lazy eye isn't "normal".. in the sense that I can control which eye is "lazy".
Normally though, whichever eye is lazy is just kinda blurry. It's kinda like having extended peripheral vision.
Close your right eye and look straight ahead. Notice where the edge of your peripheral vision is on the right. Open your right eye so both eyes are open while still looking at the same spot. Look at your new edge of your peripheral vision.
That extra area is basically all just peripheral vision plus some more off on the right because of the eye drifting off to the side.
The 2D vs 3D thing... it's really not too different. If I focus and use both eyes I can see in 3D. I have a 3DS and I love the thing haha. The difference is a lot of hand eye coordination stuff. Tossing something to me to catch is just cruel. (seriously, go play catch and keep one eye closed. It's a lot harder than you'd think haha.)

ANWAYS...
I saw it in 3D, it was pretty awesome except for the first time the big giant floaty eel thing flys over the screen. They really fucked up the 3D in that scene, the DOF was all over the place. I can confirm that it wasn't just me, or just in one theater either. I've seen it twice in two different theaters and with different groups of people and they all complained about that scene as well.
Stark being the most-awesome character as always :)

It's a tradeoff, do you want the 3D effect? or a slightly sharper image?
I mean hell, they have the movie in IMAX, but it wasn't shot in a IMAX quality format, so that's just a marketing ploy too in that sense.

When the 3D effect ruins the film, how you can enjoy it? It makes the film blurry, dark and in some cases it's just done quite badly. Avatar was built from the ground up for 3D and James Cameron was obsessed with getting it right. The 3D was appropriate and still looked bright and vibrant, but still a bit blurry. Every other 3D film I've seen after that has just looked like a mess. Especially the ones that are dark to begin with like The Deathly Hallows Part 2.

I saw it in IMAX 3D today. You are correct. This film is quite enjoyable in 3D. My initial statement was meant to be about 3D films in general, and not as a rule. I failed to state that properly, though. Still, that lack of clarity and the darker tone really irks me.
