View Full Version : HPC Correctly Mod vehicles into a map.

Okay well last night I decided I wanted to make a boarding action mod (on Halo PC). I decided to start with trying to add vehicles. I figured out how to do it through cheat engine but I really do not want to run an app if it can be done through modding (spark edit/HMT). I tried a few different things but it either crashed the server or was not visible when I put it on a dedicated server.
Also is there a way to mod in more vehicles? I tried using spark edit after you copy them a few times it stops working.

I want to make it modded so I can host it on a server.
I could mod HCE through cheat engine and use an app to set everything
but HPC would be alot easier because of all the tools.

Why not make the mod in CE and user Harbinger to port it to PC?
Conure released Harbinger years ago so it should be around somewhere.
E: I'll be nice and upload the copy I've got laying around.

But that's not joiner friendly ;P
Just use sparkedit, vehicles sync so you should be fine. If you're having trouble go to the [scnr] tag in eschaton and eliminate some references to scenery and replace them with vehicles.

Done that too it works for a while then crashes.

is that why it crashes?? It all makes sense now.
But then there will be the issue of it falling to the bottom of the map after a while then there will be no vehicles left.

just PMI more vehicles into the map then... instead of copying in spark edit. Yeah its a lot more work but you won't have all these problems.
Also don't replace scenery that are over BSP's with no barriers...

Wat is this, that's not joiner friendly D: Also pming is pretty easy now...
Unless you're putting a million vehicles in the map, the limit is pretty high, I've done it before and never had the problem. Respawning is messed up though because they only respawn at the same time as the original object.

Basically trying to do this.
I want a crap ton of vehicles on boarding action but i need them to spawn because im sure they are going to just fall to the bottom of the map sooner or later.

Okay so I figured out how to put a bunch of vehicles in a map but if i set the respawn time it crashes :/ so basically I cant respawn then there has to be away.

Boarding Action doesn't have any vehicles in it. Therefor it has no points to respawn vehicles at, which is why it exceptions.

I havent modded since maybe 7 years ago.. but if spark edit will let you make them, that'll probably work. Even if they don't spawn ingame, they'll still respawn.

no luck :/ sparkedit didnt have any options. I tried swapping out an itcm tag with the vehicle tag. It crashed lol

Try using hmt to set the top fields (yyyy, scen, obje) or whatever they are for a scenery object to whatever it is for a vehicle, then swap in sparkedit and see if it spawns.

Actually it is joiner friendly.
You just need to make sure anyone joining your map has the new map.

thats not joiner friendly than lol. If people need to have my map download then I would just
make a halo CE map and tell everyone to download that but thats just a pain and not really what I
want to do.

If they have the map can they join? if yes than that means it is indeed joiner friendly.

If I am having a HW download then I might as well put way cooler shit into it. Modding a map is so for all the noobs the work is done.

If I remember correctly you could copy vehicles that are placed on the map by the default setting. Try copying those vehicles and set vehicle amounts to be default through your gametype. I'm pretty sure that works.

iirc, vehicles are compiled into the .map itself, and since boarding action has no vehicles, is it possible that the vehicles just arnt even in the unmodded .map? i know theyre all referenced in globals, so maybe im wrong, but try modding a map that has vehicles by default. if that works, then you know the issue is that boarding action doesnt have the tags for vehicles in it.
