The federal government is cancelling the contracts of non-Christian chaplains at federal prisons, CBC News has learned.
Inmates of other faiths, such as Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jews, will be expected to turn to Christian prison chaplains for religious counsel and guidance, according to the office of Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, who is also responsible for Canada’s penitentiaries.
Toews said he wasn't convinced part-time chaplains from other religions were an appropriate use of taxpayer money and that he would review the policy.
Like, I have lots of problems with religion, but I'll put that aside for now and go what the fuck is this shit
and our prison system is about rehabilitating, not punishing forever. And it is in a citizen's interest to see these prisoners rehabilitated. If it takes a religion for them to find a connection with humanity again, then I figure it's worth the money. Of all the money that the government spends frivolously, this is not one of them.
pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter, this is one of the few occasions when religion can actually serve a positive purpose, so let's just shut that down right?
Also I can't seen to find the actual quote from Toews, if anyone can please post it, I'd love to know if it's actually as hideously fucking stupid as it's made to sound.
