Thought this might be an interesting topic to start (either that or I'm just plain bored at the moment...). What are some of the mysteries in Halo CE that you have been wondering about? Maybe what happened to that particular map? What happened to a particular member? Or even, why was a map made the way it was? Whatever. Maybe someone has answers to them...

Here are a couple of mine:

- Why was the sync room in Yoyorast Island v2 so close to the actual map instead of being made FAR away like the secret room in the first Yoyorast Island?

- What is NeuroKoNeza up to these days? Made some pretty fun maps back in the day.

- Do any of the former Halo2CE members still actually have some of the unreleased maps locked away somewhere? Can't remember which ones they didn't realize but I recall a few were missing.

Last I Recall, the last H2CE map that was supposed to be released was h2_noremorse, I was told that by one of the members after the classic version was released. The other maps that were supposed to be released were miniship, oblivion, and a few others. Unfortunately these ones looked the funnest.

In terms of apps, theres a lot that havent been released that I know of/made. Its not the fact that we like to keep all the treasure ourselfs, once you release something you get a ton of people demanding fixes, improvements etc. I assume its the same with map makers.

I just remember him getting arrested and starting to DJ and pretty much quit CE. he was supposed to give me his data+tags folder so i could take over but im still waiting for him to upload it some time...

Last I talked to him was... January 26, 2009 (love Trillian's logging), around the time Modacity had its TF2 servers and I wanted to let him know we were featuring his two TF2 maps. He said he was working on his own game engine with MMO-styled networking.

ahh overdose, me and malolo were veryy tight on that project.. I animated the p90, rpg, a pistol and the AUG. I also modeled a 50 cal turret for that project, that was never used -_-. Its unfortunate that the mod never came to its full potential.. I was gonna eventually re animate everything myself, and malolo was gonna pretty it up a lot more, but I moved onto other things, and so did he.

And yet I was an administrator for these boards, responsible for building and maintaining the Yoyorast website, and usually asked by people to test stuff for them.

Figure that out, because I have no idea.

Anybody remember when Streets of Earth City came out and it was all anybody played for weeks because ZOMG!1!!!11 HALO 2!!!1! ?

Also, when exactly did CE get to its current state? It went from the EP servers which were constantly packed and playing 24/7 rotations of 20+ custom maps (none of which sucked) to newbies spamming nukes on Coldsnap to zombies on CMTSnowGrove to 24/7 bloodgulch maps filled with spanish-speaking players who call me "camping hijo de puta" when I kill them. I stepped out a few times to take care of school, work, girlfriends, and my growing Oblivion obsession, and every time I came back, the maps were better and the games were worse. :(

Also, has anybody met anyone else IRL who played CE but wasn't active in the forums? I've met about six people randomly at school and work, and they all said, "Yeah, I played a little of that map... like hugeass or whatever... it was fun but it got pretty boring so I stopped to play something better."

I think there may have been a shift where people started placing more emphasis on custom content such as new vehicles, bipeds, and weapons, rather than focusing on the creation of quality maps with the stock weapons everyone was used to. Did it become too gimmicky, perhaps?

On a serious note, I'd say so. There seems to be more of an emphasis on either making gimmicky like Coldsnap or aesthetically pleasing maps that have no gameplay value. It would have been great to see more of a focus on smaller maps that revolved around the standard mechanics and weapons.

Probably. But it was always about gimmicks. There were a couple mappers at first (DocOc and Molkien) who wanted to make excellent classic maps, but everyone else just wanted to make the best Halo 2 map ever. Then Halo 3. Then ODST/Reach...

I would say we are circling the drain, but there are still active modding communities for Doom, Jedi Knight, Half Life, and even Chex Quest. So who knows? Maybe we can hang on for another 8 years?

Back on topic, what exactly did happen to H2CE? I remember that Nitro worked on H2V, but when exactly did the project die?

That is the complete point. It was KiLLa's test map that, at the time, everyone wanted to play because it had cool assets. It was leaked a few times too which led to KiLLa putting out a few beta releases.

KiLLa (who also recruited me into CE) had it a it's testmap. That map's animations, vehicles and weapons were groundbreaking when it was in development, and pretty much everything the community does today grew out of what was learned in the creation of that map.

I can actually let that slide. I think what really killed it was the lack of an "official" Halo CE map download site. Sure we have halomaps.org and I thank them for that, but with no instructions of where to download maps or having no download maps was the problem that the game had. I mean how else would anyone know where to get other maps if they weren't involved in the community?

Neither, direct downloads from a central server (or three).

HaloMaps is too slow and doesn't officially allow for direct downloads and downloading from a game server would be either disgustingly slow or lag the game, not to mention it'd mean that the feature would be hit or miss in terms of support.

I've been doing alright and yourself? I started playing some Halo again recently but for the most part venom and I have been playing H1Z1(I hate it but cant put it down).

I lost him (re. rec0). He was living in St Albans. I studied there exclusively for just under a year but alas he could not be found. His name's Paul I think, no idea what his last name is though.

About as long as the times you went AFK during games buddy! There was no hard feelings anyway, I played with KOD during one of the leagues in a couple of games so understood your feels for the tags ;p

I think at the time people were beginning to disappear so it was more of an effort to get the last of us under one familiar team name, leagues were never gonna happen again due to the previous one already struggling with numbers haha

Doing swell man! Heading back to school to get a Masters degree which should be interesting haha. Venom's still around? Man I haven't seen him online in years... I definitely need to boot it up again soon, it's been awhile! Tried playing it on the Master Chief Collection, but I couldn't stand the stupid combined game playlist. I'll take the serverlist over matchmaking any day... :downs:

- Do any of the former Halo2CE members still actually have some of the unreleased maps locked away somewhere? Can't remember which ones they didn't realize but I recall a few were missing.

I'll look around on my ooooold old drive, we had a bunch of things cooking that never got finished. One of the maps actually ended up in an Xbox conversion project, HaloMaps v2, called Pantheon. I don't remember if that was released for CE or not.
