I'm currently running a new server called LancersEdge.net CUSTOM. As the name implies, it's for running custom maps ONLY.

Right now it's running the ever-popular WartornCov3 which can be downloaded from HaloMaps.org below:

If you know how to manage a SAPP server, or would like to administrate this server, just let me know here and I'll get you set up.

Finally. I hope this gets some players.

I'm thinking that I'll also put a smaller custom map on it for when there's only a few players playing. You can switch to it at will using the "skip" command on the server... Some ideas were Helix Canyon and No Remorse, as well as some other map Conscars suggested and that I've forgot.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Delta Ruins seems to be a popular custom map at this moment. Maybe add that as part of the 'small map rotation'.

how about seclusion?

map is small and pretty. Had good times testing.

I never enjoyed Seclusion in terms of gameplay. But that is just me.

seclusion is just one big line of sight, and iirc, the pistol is not a starting weapon, so whoever establishes themself in the center will destroy everybody before they can even hit him.

Yeah I remember Seclusion having gameplay issues as well. Though setting the gametype to classic or using the server to forcefully give people the pistol at start would be fine.

Delta Ruins could work for me.

chuck over some admin rights if you still need administrators on the server!

CMT Snowgrove is always a good one that many have. Zteam Sanctuary is also popular, though I have not seen it in a while tbh. Then again, even maps like Coldsnap have declined. I honestly only see a lot of regular maps and some server mods (NoLagFix and Zombies). Wartorn Cove is good too. Not a fan of Seclusion though, I mean it's pretty, but the gameplay is lacking in certain areas. Requiem is kind of in the same boat, albeit it does have better gameplay elements. Precipice is a good map, but I don't know if many have it.

Of course, if you don't put Portent on the server then I will never play your server. Just saying.

My idea was to keep the maps to a minimum, and keep one map as a constant (that map being WartornCov3). The small map I'll be adding is mostly for when there's only a few people playing and WartornCov3 is to large for good battles. I can change the small map around every few weeks based on suggestions here.

I still need to fix the gametype for WTC3 as well, I forgot that the vehicle spawns were fucked up.

Here's another suggestion:

Immolate

Edit - Fuck it I'm putting this on, I forgot about this and it's nice and small!

Immolate is a decent map, small, symetrical, etc. Destiny is a great map too. If your going for any other small/medium sized maps, take a gander at these:

"Garden CE" http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=4863

"Sciophobia" http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=4204

"Cliffhanger Final" http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=209

"Fissure Fall" http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=233

"Complex" http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=353

Heads up, all the Lancers Edge servers will likely be pretty laggy over the next day or two... Need to get a huge amount of data uploaded for a friend and his connection is a fraction of what mine is.

^This.

Also, maybe Claustrophobia at some point?

I already downloaded Garden, Sciophobia, Fissure Fall, and Complex to the server. :)

Cliffhanger is a little to large to act as a smaller custom map IMO.

Also just an FYI, the current maps running on the server will always be listed here:
http://www.lancersedge.net/forum.php

Right side of the page, last server status block.

You already have Wartorn Cove on there. Why do you need more maps than that?

Cortexian

Already said why.

Destiny is a neat map and all, but wouldn't it be better to put maps that are a bit more well known? Maps that people might actually have?

Cortexian

You're implying that people who have some custom maps already just join random servers with them running. It's been my experience that people download a map pack for a server and only play on that server. Even if there's another server with a custom map they already have.

Its okay!

Could be much better for a custom maps server though.

It's what I always did.

Yeah I would do the same. Usually tried to find a server running with the current maps I had in my maps folder.

SAPP doesn't download maps to new players connecting, that requires client modifications as well as server modifications. The SAPP map downloading feature only allows server administrators to download and install maps to the server.

Cortexian

OK I switched out Destiny for Complex.

Not that anyone cares since no one plays custom maps on custom edition.

Remember that screenshot I posted years ago where I could fill up almost the entire server browser screen with servers running Blood Gulch?

Cortexian
February 10th, 2013, 07:36 AM
At least my LancersEdge.net 01 server is fairly popular, and it's only Bloodgulch every second map. My plan was to ween kiddies off BG by slowly decreasing how often BG was in the playlist.

At least my LancersEdge.net 01 server is fairly popular, and it's only Bloodgulch every second map. My plan was to ween kiddies off BG by slowly decreasing how often BG was in the playlist.

The problem with that is that a number of players will leave after BG switches to another map. That's what I've noticed for the past 2 months. If the next map in rotation is Danger Canyon, you can get most people to stick around, but if it's Ice Fields or Timberland, the number just drops. If the map isn't already on BG when they are looking through the server browser, then most people won't join.

People just want to play Blood Gulch :/
