Sadly my Gigabyte 6950 looks like it's come to an end, considering it's only a few years old i'm kinda pissed off about it.

Anyway i'm in the market for a new GPU, whats a good value for money GPU these days?

What's wrong with the 6950?

massive artifacting blue screening ect.

i tried the localised chipset heating with a heat gun and flux that alot of people have used to fix dead cards, PSU's 360's ect but it only gave me a couple of days untill it started fucking out again.

I'll try the baking method where you heat it in the oven to reset the solder joints and see if that helps but i'd probably be looking at a new card anyway.

I was going to suggest the oven method in my first post. Certainly worth a shot if you're going to ditch the card anyway. :)

I've had both, it's price/performance that i care about, not brands.

Recommended a card to my roommate recently, used this site as a reference
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html

Ended up buying an EVGA 450 for around $70.

if i can actually get a 660 at the 200price point i'd get one of them but i think the retailers are into screwing us a bit more in aus so i might be better off with a 7870

i'd rather not get a WORSE card then i had a few years ago especially considering how intensive starcraft is at higher resolutions, and i like to play it maxed.

I'd agree with this, I've used it for xbox's with only good results.

If you want something that is at least as powerful as your HD 6950, but as low as a price as you can get, then the HD 7870 is the way to go. Getting a GTX 660 would give you slower performance for almost the same price. That's not ideal. A 660Ti would be better and more comparable to the 7870, but it's also a buttload more expensive ($40+). Your best bet is to get a Sapphire, ASUS, or XFX HD7870. Gigabyte is sort of hit or miss with their GPUs.

I just got a ASUS 7850 2gb, works great so far. Big card though, but definitely worth it. Been running Tomb Raider lately and it looks sexy on ultra. No problems so far with it.

Like Amit just said above, id go with either a 7850/7870

Just finished baking and putting my GPU back together, then ran a that valley benchmark.

IT made it through it so hopefully it stays good for a while longer.
I'll keep an eye on this thread incase it fails later so dont hesitate to post your suggestions

I'm personally going for a 7850 soon. Best price/performance in my opinion if you want to run games at very high at 1080p.

Make sure it's the 2gb and not 1.

i'm all about 1920x1200

16:10 supremacy for life.

Make sure it's the 2gb and not 1.

2GB versons have almost no effect on games at 1080p. Waste money more. 16:10 supremacy.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Amit again.

Lol, last rep you gave me was in January for posting about Ace Combat Assault Horizon being released for PC. That was the largest steaming pile of bullshit I've ever played. The entire thing is basically on the rails and hard to get into. An Apache flipping 360 degrees horizontally without any prior momentum to help it accomplish such a thing. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. And the AI are retarded as well.
