I know this may not be the place to ask... but I have tried since yesterday to access halomaps.org to download a few maps I need, and it just doesn't seem to work... I've tried at the campus library too... I guess it's down? Please confirm if so.

down for me too
Dennis mentioned that he was uploading a buttload of maps to the database, maybe they did something to the servers?
that, or he got fed up with the [REDACTED]fest going on in the forums and pulled the plug...

I think he'd give us warning before shutting it down for good.

I somehow doubt any kind of shit people are pulling there today would top what people did back in 2006 and 2007. I doubt Dennis took the forums down, permanently anyway. He has temporarily closed them in response to nonsense like that before, but when he did that, he very clearly stated it on a landing page.

What happened back in 2006/7?

Gather round my friends, and let me recite the tales of DSalimander...
all kidding aside, the tl;dr version is that halomaps has always been subject to angry kids spamming the crap out of the forums. There are a lot of younger people in the halo modding community, so squabbling among forum members is common (SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER PLACE I KNOW). Dennis' policy is that he doesn't take any sides. He hosts whatever gets uploaded. Back in 06/07 forum spam was usually about somebody leaking somebody else's map without their permission. The map owner would get mad at Dennis for not taking it down (because he doesn't take sides), and that would lead to the map owner and a bunch of his friends making new accounts and spamming all the boards with goatse and stuff. To put it in perspective, I can think of 3 forum members off the top of my head who had images turned off completly in their browsers. Dennis has since put restrictions in place to curb some of this behavior, such as new members being unable to post images.
DSali was one of those members that made a hobby of occasional spam bombs. I'm not sure what happened recently, but I can't imagine it tops the shit he pulled. Then there was the time E3pO supposedly hacked the site... Now you've got me curious. What did they do recently?

Unlike hm.org, modacity doesn't give a shit about censorship :p

Probably due to him being the only moderator.

I realize... and I also realize that I can't seem to seriously talk to anyone about any of the threads on halomaps forums because they seem more worried about his ranting... so I guess I will be ignored... lol.

Yeah it was always alot nicer there when he wasn't posting. Alot of trolls have gained ground there recently. It's pretty sad.

that's because a lot of the people there are extremely immature/egotistical. Tbh it's a time bomb waiting to happen, the difference being that this one won't go away after the explosion

I've logged in once in the past three years, and that was just to give my seal of approval to moses' alpha adjuster.
