View Full Version : Gaming re-investment

Hi guys,
Perhaps I'm feeling old but it's kinda overwhelming and sad for me to log on to an app like xfire to find it dead.. in contrast to older days I'd log in and find a bunch of people playing with at least one or two dudes up to play some games.. I suppose the above I've had coming as I never really embraced steam properly as halo was all I played..
I've been thinking a lot about this sites activity and while I can't say I'm done and going because [political debate involving uninteresting topics about site direction here] I want to say I would just like to try and build up a good few people to chat to and socialise with on Steam, if you paid attention to the pc building thread you may have seen I recently invested some cash into a powerful pc built for said subject..
Real life has been quite heavy with deaths, arguments, falling out, lack of communication from friends that aren't meant to disappear.. and the only escape for all this that has never failed me is a good video game..
What I want to ask and talk about is actually who still games quite actively and would like to get in touch to play? What games have captivated you like say perhaps custom edition did for us in earlier days before classic map cycles on custom edition? Throw over your steam ids/origin ids in this thread!
Most importantly I'm using honesty because well, I pretty much grew up with the gaming community initially around gearbox, then h2v [including biocroc/hiv forums] and know there's still people left here that want to play for the fun of playing a game.. I'm into battlefield these days.. more of a fps gamer than anything else!
Feel free to treat this thread as somewhat nostalgic similar to us celebrating the game that brought us all here but ultimately I'm looking to catch up and find out what people are up to, as well as playing with people other than mexicans(halo)/anon mutes(battlefield)
hope to hear back from y'all :)
edit:
i placed the thread here on the purpose of this being a more active segment of the forum despite there being a game section.. but if any active staff are about feel free to place it in the most active part as you see fit!

There hasn't been any game that captivates me quite like Halo did. That might change next year with the release of space games such as Star Citizen and No Man's Sky (I'm looking forward to the latter more than the former). That being said, I do still game quite actively, with my most-played titles being DotA 2, War Thunder, Warframe, and the Battlefield series (I play BC2 and BF3 regularly). Most of my multiplayer consists of games like those, where I can just jump in and play a few rounds. I also do Payday 2 and Planetside 2 with greater-than-average frequency.
There haven't been any captivating single-player/co-operative experiences on the market in a long time.

I've found myself in a very similar predicament as yourself lately and I feel that I agree 100% with your post. Almost 23, out of college, and I miss the old days of Gearbox, Xfire, H2V, etc. Hell, I feel a lot more alone now when it comes to gaming cause I used to remember my chats blowing up with people wanting to play games / receiving friend requests. Now, I don't get any of that aside from the occasional "Woops didnt mean to send that to you" messages. Feels bro.

Once work projects settle and you're no longer juggling a million things that's when it sunk in for me and I found myself needing to get back into gaming - now that I have set up the foundations for my future I'm suddenly able to enjoy hobbies once again. :)
Though it may seem unusual for me, I'm 19 years old, have a career that side stepped university in what I can only call tremendous luck. To anyone who remembered I didn't ever bring across how old I was initially because the community doesn't exactly welcome kids. (And in 2005, when I was about 10 that was a given) Though it is one of the reasons I am attached to the community now because I pretty much, from childhood, grew up on the game.

Career-wise perhaps but everything else is heavy enough that I actually feel alone and require some of the awesome people of this community to help make my hobby worthwhile. :)
To be honest being as old as I am makes me feel down about the rest of the guys that played halo and have been part of the community this long, we are moving on - and the people I remember are creeping up on their fuckin 30's.. The only thing I have on them is bright-eyed youth.. and again I didn't want age to become a thing initially as it shoots negativity your way as quick as girls announcing they're girls in this scene..
I mean, in my eyes I played this game to death and stayed up late because Halo was my childhood obsession, that was my toy.. That's why I justified spending as much time with it as I have because that's just what kids do with toys. I respected everyone that stuck with this game even in adulthood purely because it shows how much gaming can influence a lifestyle
Of course it was super entertaining when it came to playing among hivers of certain egotistical standards of maturity etc.. even more so when I ended up having the same ip as rec0. Suppose I had trolling down quite early in life :iamafag:
