View Full Version : Stretched Custom Edition UI and other small annoyances

I posted this same thread in another Halo forum but didn't get much of a response.

Some issues I'm having with Halo CE I hope anyone can help me with, starting with the stretched ui:

Compare to the original:

I'd be glad to take a crack at it myself, but I just can't figure out how to edit or remake the ui.map. I poked around with kornman and sabien with no luck. If it required me to make new images with photoshop that'd be no problem.

Another issue is this sniper scope bug:

Those white lines move with my aiming but it's misaligned as you can plainly see. Also in this image you can notice that the 'pulse' of the motion tracker is stretched while the rest of the HUD is not due to HAC.

What can I do to fix these problems?

Run windowed at highest 4:3 resolution that'll fit on your screen. Or use Open Sauce and set HUD Scaling to on.

I don't think the sniper rifle's tick marks will be fixed, but your HUD should be better scaled and less ugly.

Beyond remaking all the UI elements and recompiling every map, this is probably your best solution. If you really want to tackle a brand new interface to fit 16:9 resolutions better, feel free, I won't discourage you. In fact, it would be a fantastic and worthwhile challenge if you succeed.

Any clue as to which one that is?

It might not be included by default, but in your tags it's sky/sky_ui/sky_ui.sky

You can use HEK+ (http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=1542) to extract the assets in the ui.map file. Anything that doesn't already exist will be created in your tags folder.

Hey man, just forget about all that. Install OpenSauce (https://code.google.com/p/open-sauce/downloads/detail?name=OpenSauce_Halo1_CE_20130120.7z&can=2&q=) and then hit F7 in-game to bring up the menu. Use the various features to adjust your HUD to work with widescreen resolutions and and increase your field of view to whatever you prefer. It's not worth your time to rebuild maps to fit the UI.

Btw, it looks like Sapien is trying to open bitmaps from tags that are not part of the default HEK tagset. What map are you trying to open?

With Sapien I was just testing it out, trying to open tutorial.scenario.

there are many ui maps made at halomaps that have made my experience WAY better, if you want a couple links to them i would more than welcome
