from what I hear he wanted a second payraise after a recent payraise and it kinda escalated from there

Pretty sure he was the one so vehemently against an editing kit for Halo on PC, and why custom edition is separate from PC so screw him.

Is this sarcasm?
I'd like to see some proof of this, because I'm pretty sure that's not why its separate.
Anyway I posted this in the RIP HALO thread as it seemed fitting there. However I too also say the payraise theory (which, btw, was not proven correct since no proof was given from the source, but def possible). Marty always seemed kinda like a dick but also alright from what I've seen from him, and his music is incredible either way. Bungie lost a vaulable asset and its quite hilarious honestly to see their community in such an uproar over it. This also only leaves one last original employee of Bungie, Jason Jones himself.

Marty? Really? He's the music guy, why would he even be getting involved in that debate?

If he leaves, maybe he'll get ahold of Marty O'Donnell and Joe Staten and gather a fresh-faced crew to make a new company. Bunghole, LLC.
Their first game: Owt Gnop.

Something to do with not wanting the public be able to see how the engine played music or rip music from the engine.
By which time both were already possible due to the already established modding community.
He also didn't want the film editor to be a thing either as he didn't want people to be able to pause and look at the game in the level of detail people could with it.

This is really odd. Somewhere in between the Microsoft acquisition, split FROM Microsoft back into an LLC, formation of 343i (and migration of many who worked on Halo to 343i), and partnership with Activision, something must've gone seriously wrong. And for the last one, it might not have even been a factor since that was just a publishing agreement and not a merger... Unless I'm missing something? Marty was there from the beginning, as in not even Halo Combat Evolved, but way back for Myth. It must've been pretty ugly for them to just terminate him like that. This is literally a falling out between friends who've been working together for more than a decade. Just sitting here wondering who instigated it first: Marty or Bungie? This couldn't have been amicable.
Jeez what's happening to this franchise? I just feel like Halo's going nowhere anymore haha (not that Marty's firing affects Halo in any way, at least for now. Just his involvement makes me think of Halo in its current state). PC version getting shut down because of Gamespy, 343i basically a deadbeat with Halo's future, facing competition from big contenders like Titanfall and Destiny. Has Halo run its course?

Not really odd nor something horrible. In office politics, if you're let go without reason, it's likely because you were clashing with other people and making it difficult for them to work or you're too expensive for what you provide to the company. I'm guessing it was a bit of both. He'd been there for so long, I can't imagine what his salary was. And it was pretty well known he had an attitude about how things should be around him in the studio (I recall Staten impersonating him).
Bungie has become pretty big and it's important that they're running as smoothly as possible in every department. If a board agreed to it instead of trying to mediate it, then it had to of been affecting more than the audio guys.
