Hey guys, figured you'd be interested in our game, Murder Miners! It's the #1 rated Xbox Live Indie Game and we just released it on Steam. The PC version is kind of suffering from a lack of a big player base currently (the Xbox version always has dozens of games available however).

The core gameplay is very much inspired by Halo. 3-shot-kill pistol included, with new additions such as dashing, wall-jumping and alt-fire modes.

We also have a really fun infection mode. Plus the game is voxel-based so not only are there destructible environments, but making maps is easy. Our players have remade just about every popular map out there.

You can read more about the game on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/274900/

Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JvgJTTYTeA

Our community is really wishing they had more people to play with so I hope some of you guys get into the game. I'll give out free copies to the first 3 people who ask for one in this thread.

I could have sworn someone had already posted about this, and its Halo-inspiredness, a while ago. But maybe I'm thinking of halo.bungie.org. Or saw it on the frontpage of Steam during the summer sale.

Anyway, I'm interested in trying to get into it! As far as modding goes, is it constrained to what you can do with the voxel-based environment (so really, just making maps)? Or can players create their own game types/variants (or is stuff like your Infection more so hardcoded)? Given that this community has mainly stuck around for Halo Custom Edition, the sort of modding is probably what will help get the attention of others here.

have been playing this for a bit and enjoyed it!

felt like getting in vehicles and sprinting to be a bit fiddly but that doesn't really take away from the fun experience!

the sword lunging is super fun too, i would like to see game types open up the movement to free-running style stuff, run quicker, wall bouncing added with that sword lunging could make for some fun sword battles!

enjoyed using all the guns which is a first and found the zombies quite challenging :)

would definitely recommend, people are criticizing the whole minecraft art style but this game does genuinely feel unique - you can also see where the halo influences come into it, but it doesn't feel out of place at all.

Ok I sent keys to the first 3 guys here. Hope you enjoy the game :)

As far as modding goes, it's mostly just making maps, but you can edit which weapons you start with, where weapons are on the map, and you can turn on all gamemodes at once. So for example you can play CTF with infection on which is actually pretty fun. But people have done some pretty unique maps that are basically new gametypes. Parkour maps are really popular on Xbox (where you're basically just running/jumping through a map like a platformer). I've also seen a couple cool dodgeball maps, one where they only used the minergun's charge-up blast shot (with a big gap in the middle of the map so you can't cross), and another where they used only hookshots and sticky grenades. So there's a quite a few things you can do with the options in the game. You can change textures and stuff also but it would just be on your end. We may make the game very moddable in the future.

Cool game dude! If it's a game you can make maps for, then you have my approval. :)

hey dudes!! I played your game back on XBL when it was first released. Had loads of fun. The pistol is extremely satisfying, and I'm happy to see the homage to H1. I spent days in the multiplayer, it was amazing to see users developing remakes of Halo levels. Grabbed the game on Steam the day it came out. Was impressed to see the BR added.

The auto-aim feels a bit odd, I don't know how to describe it. The draw distance is strange as well. If you'd like a little tester work, I'd be happy to lend a hand (it's kind of my profession).

Shame to have heard Egoraptor backed out of Unstoppable. Will the project ever see light of day? If you would like any help on that project as well, I'd like to hear what positions need filled.

Thanks man!!

Oh lawl. Just skimmed over the first post and didn't catch that you were the actual dev. Congrats on making the move to PC! We've been talking about it in IRC a bit.

Dedicated servers would really help your playerbase. I'm pretty sure you guys already have a sort of client/server architecture going on in the same way Xbox games do. If you could distribute a dedicated server that'd be helpful. PC players do well with permanent lobbies with set rotations that they can hop in at any time.

Are you guys looking for additional help in the game/engine's development? I could try contributing in my free time (ie, I'm not looking to sap any monies) if help was desired

You need to be focusing on Open Sauce, young man.

I'd have a bigger desire to work on OS if I didn't spend the majority of my time reverse engineering code then rewriting it back into C (well, C++).

Sounds interesting :neckbeard:

Here are my suggestions (basicly the essence of 10 years of playing Halo 1, haven't played your game yet, so maybe you already have all that covered):

- The most fun aspect of Halo to me is the vehicle gameplay, especially the warthog and it's ability to hold 3 teammates. Endless fun is guaranteed if your team assaults the enemy base in multiple warthogs.
- Somewhat related to the before mentioned: Physics. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing an enemy warthog fly through the air thanks to a precisely thrown nade.
- Implement a Race gametype where players can race around the map in warthog like vehicles that have a gunner seat.
- Power weapons should spawn on the map so players have to defend those strategic weapon spawn points
- Everyone should spawn with the same equipment and it should be good enough to fend off spawn killers
- Grenades, everyone loves grenades. They need to be bouncy too, so you can throw them around corners by letting them deflect off a wall.
- Everything should be balanced to a certain extent, you should have a chance to kill someone in a vehicle or someone having a power weapon even if you have nothing better than your starting gear an your experience/skill to fend the enemy off.
- allow custom maps and have an automated map downloading system in place

I tried it out just now. I couldn't find servers for anything but free for all deathmatch. Right now my biggest gripe is the map design. One of the corner-stones of Halo is closer quarters, infantry maps with several lanes to get from point A to point B. What I've seen in the maps in this game is big, wide open cities where everybody camps on the rooftops with sniper rifles. There's not much reason to use anything but the sniper rifle and the grapple gun. There's some cool map design on the ground level of these maps, but it may as well not be there because everybody grapples to rooftops and snipes.

I'll try hosting later and see if I can't get a game going on a tighter map. That long range stuff is not for me.

Also, I love the grapple gun.

I was playing on a heavily inspired bloodgulch map with ultama yesterday. People would use the air vehicle to get up on top of the map (the cliffs that act as the wall) and start snipping. Which is pretty lame. I haven't tried modding yet, but I guess maps don't specify weapon or ammo spawns? Thus why you can spawn with a SR?

They can. Check out their Lockout remake. It has guns on it.

We should get an inhouse game of some sort going. The game is dead but seems to have potential in the one zombie match I could find. Some classic style CTF would be nice.
