View Full Version : HCE Dynamic Customs Server

As I mentioned in this thread (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?25518-IMMORTAL-TECHNIQUE&p=654799&viewfull=1#post654799), I'm going to set up a customs 24/7 server with a lot of the maps we all loved from the past. There's gonna be a twist to this server though, it'll be a dynamic map cycle based on players in the server.

Sounds good! Sehe also has dynamic map cycle on his server but so far I like your map selection far more.

I think you should make it even more granular than that. Certain maps are great up to say 5 players but go to shit after that. Set it on a map per map basis.
I'd also suggest Helix Canyon for the medium range. I feel that Snowtorn is probably too big for less than 14 people.

I actually agree with all of this. I had forgotten about Helix Canyon, but remembered it and added it to my map cycle before I actually saw your post. I added it into the Medium category and also moved Snowtorn Grove to large. We think alike!

As for a more granular control of the maps, I think MOST should fit into these categories... However I do agree that some may fall outside the normal categorization. It depends on the game types implemented as well though.

Yeah game types certainly matter as well. KOTH focuses a map far more than FFA slayer for example.

set up a 24/7 bloodgulch all vehicles ban free and it will be populated ;)

I was also thinking of setting this up on one of my servers for ALL of the default maps as well. Thoughts?

Why not. I'm amazed every time I see a server with only one or two people playing BG or some other big map.

I don't think that Derelict map is fun. I mean, Derelict is boring as it is and Crypt added an extra floor and banshees into the map. I played couple games where the enemy team stole the banshees and eventually we couldn't do anything really because if we tried to go the the hangar to shoot them they would camp near it and bomb our asses. So yeah if a noob plays that map of course he will go for the banshee and just fly off (you can actually fly very far away from the space station)

Ya so if you do CTF or KotH it doesn't matter because then they just lose. Or just disable vehicles in the gametype.

BC Carousel Mp as Medium? Looks more like a small map to me but I'll try. I remember some fun games on Snowcast.

Please cut oddball on fissure falls, those maps with the music, remove radar from deagle, and make delta station team gametypes only. Also, more map variety and cut the maps over 20mb.

AFAIK the maps are being downloaded from some server chaosvex is hosting. They don't come down from the server hosting it.

Everyone starts with generic weapon set though (pistol + AR) because pistol is OP which means if everyone doesn't start with it, whoever gets it first wins.

I mean a 40mb download is going to take a while no matter where its coming from. Those maps just shouldn't be included in the cycle if its going to take people as long to download them as it will to play the match. I know once you download it you don't need to do it again, but I would rather see more maps in the cycle instead.

It's 2015. If 40 mB is really taking you that long to download then call your fucking ISP and buy a better plan.

Ya its because CMT's ripped assets tangle up all the bits in the downpipe and slow the download.

I swear I downloaded Coldsnap for like half an hour when we wanted to do stunts with crazy player speed. And then the next map was downloaded in 10 seconds.

Add more maps to the small list. The server doesn't fill up fast and playing the same maps over and over gets pretty boring.

Delta Ruins, Eclipse, and Dichotomy perhaps.
