Wow it's quiet around here. I think I just logged on here for the first time in like 7-8 years, crazy.

After my Halo CE days I became a YouTuber (350k subs) and did that for 5 years.
Now I've been working in UK TV and Film as an editor and motion graphics animator for 2 years.
Also had a book published and did some architectural consultancy work for the UN.

Kind of setting my sights back towards 3D modelling and the games industry though.

Live in LA now, play Halo CE occasionally still, but it's shit.

I'm a commercial photographer and shoot mostly food brands. I used to be the Sr. photographer at Quest Nutrition, but now I work via a boutique ad agency with clients like Halo Top Creamery, Real Good Pizza, Oats Overnight...

I'm also dating a real, live woman, going on 5 years now - never thought I'd pull that off.

Living in LA, was a manual (not CNC) machinist for an aerospace company for a while, got hit with layoffs and am currently trying to get a job with the city. Otherwise, I collect old shit. Cars, firearms, engines, whatever. Hop on CE every once in a while, still (relatively) fun.

I was just a janitor but my friend in a nearby city is opening his own chipotle-style restaurant and the minimum wage there is higher than my last job after several raises. Someone I knew got a job doing malware reversing, I should've kept a blog.

That's pretty much how it feels, yeah. So many "I wish I would have done this" sort of situations, and "better" just means switching to another low-paying job anyways. I'm heading in a better direction, but it's tough going for a lot of reasons even if I have ideas I can get behind. When the motivation is there, the energy isn't; when the energy is there, the motivation isn't.

Edit: Part of my job is being the daytime janitor of the supermarket I'm at, so I exactly know how that feels.

I love game design too much, and I find too many flaws with my being a clergy. The older I became and the more people I met, the more I realized it's just not for me. I'm way too free spirited, especially to a fault. Oh well.

Do you still have your faith or just a form of spirituality?
As I put it to a friend of mine a month ago - "I'm too far down the rabbit hole at this point." In other words, I have both, but it's far from conventional and puts me at odds with the majority of others more "steadfast" in their faith.

Seems like your out the door on organised religion and are moving towards a more personal spirituality. Thats pretty cool

If you had to describe it, how would you and what are the nuances for your belief?

If you had to describe it, how would you and what are the nuances for your belief?

I've been out of organized religion for a while now, so I guess I can answer that to a decent degree. Back then I described it as the "Lonesome Road" because I practically left behind people who I had considered part of my family and had grown with at a spiritual level. I felt beckoned to leave on my own accord, however, because I was having difficulty looking beyond our faults and I felt as if I was being pushed away. I conceivably threw away most of the religious order I had established in my life. I would no longer be able to depend on a church to guide me during times of confusion and I would need to grow on my own.

Another reason for all of this change came down to a religious fight I had had with a friend of mine. She was atheistic and I was more evangelical than not, but we never made a big deal out of it until a chain of arguments spiraled into the end of our friendship. I realized I was completely disconnected with non-Christians and inconsiderate of what drove them to hold their own beliefs. I found myself to be hypocritical and contradictory; Christ embraced non-believers and believers alike, choosing to be with them over rebuking them. I could not accept myself as part of Christianity if I could not reconcile this fact - I wanted to be more humanistic when it came to personal relationships with people.

Here is where the nuances come into place; I'm in the middle ground between religious and non-religious. Relating to the devout or secular can be difficult because they are often further engulfed within their own sides. Speaking with atheists about religion/spirituality is difficult because they relentlessly argue the fallacies regarding theism in general; in most cases, they don't care about semantics and will dismiss anything you say to explain your beliefs. Speaking with devout theists is difficult because they use it like a shield and a bubble most of the time, wanting to pursue convincing you their beliefs have merit. Most of my friends now-a-days are people who are either agnostic or save religion for their Sabbath day; the former mostly ask questions when they're curious, while the latter will just hold conversation about it if it's relevant. Most of the time otherwise...we just hangout and stuff like anyone else.

Life has become more about living it and finding a path for myself, rather than following a pack because I'm not certain what I want to believe. I have had friends of many different walks of life, and I feel like I am much better able to have friendships with people because I look far more at who they are over what they may or may not believe in. I have too many personal issues to worry about what other people believe or don't believe - and at no point do I have any right to judge someone lest they ask for it.

Not been on here for a long time, thought i'd have a nosy see who is around still.

Well, I got my Degree in Visual Effects and Concept Design then went and got a job at a web design company.

So not used my degree, got bored of 3d work, want to get back into it some point but the web design job is a salaried job, secure and should hopefully be up for another pay rise soon.

Been a bouncer for 6 years now, doing my last shift this weekend as tired of working all week and all weekend, want some time to myself.

What's funny too, I've had this signature, "I like it when celebrities are elected as president" since like 2008... I guess I was trying to make some stab at Obama. I just find it funny, because now, we have Trump, who actually fits the profile of a celebrity much more than Obama.

TL;DR Things are going well. I'm super happy with the game and our team, and it's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life already. We haven't even shipped yet. Beta (NA only) at www.icons.gg soon

Elevator pitch for the game, Free to play platform fighter designed around competitive play. Will release initially on Steam. We stole a bunch of Blizzard server devs to make our servers badass. Stole artists from Riot, EA, and Blizzard (and project M!) to make the game look great. Took designers from Project M and Riot to make the game feel great, and the cofounders were both huge melee players and tournament organizers. They won't let Free 2 play ever become any form of pay 2 win.

It's coming along super well. :D We raised a bunch of money in VC funding early this year that let us grow the team from like 8 people to ~30 people + contractors. We'll be releasing a beta soon (sign up for the beta at www.icons.gg (http://www.icons.gg)) ... beta will be NA only initially. (We are still a small team. Would rather spend the time getting the game to feel great before spreading our resources super thin on a global release.)

We just took the game to twitchCon and had a booth set up there. It was super amazing to be working the booth and have thousands of people swing by and play the game. Seeing people having fun and going off on how good the game looks to them was a really cool and super rewarding experience. There were these two little kids. Brothers. Had to be like 10-12 years old. They kept coming back and playing the game... and when we were getting ready to pack up and leave they showed up and asked if they could play again. I let 'em play 3 more games before we took that computer down. Game 1, little brother wins. Game 2 goes to big brother. I hear one of them say "Alright, game 3. This is it!"... and I don't even know who won. It had to be a super close game becuase I heard them both pop off super excited. The big brother said "Good game" and gave his lil bro a high five and they walked away saying how they wish they had a PC so they could play this game at home when it comes out.

I don't know what it is... but the same thing with Project M... where seeing young kids get excited about something I made... is just such a rewarding and magical feeling. I remember playing Melee with my little brother back in the day... and how powerful that experience was to me. To think that I might have some part in bringing that sort of experience to someone else is... undescribeable

Here is a gameplay stream we did like a month ago. https://youtu.be/31-vndZxS2Q

We do regular updates on twitter (scroll down some to see our twitchcon booth stuff. It was rad.
https://twitter.com/IconsArena
https://twitter.com/WeWavedash
https://twitter.com/Llama_Juice

Because of this game I've moved from Seattle to San Francisco. We snagged a shared coworking space studio to work out of, and we're steadily growing to the point where we'll be needing to actually get our own place soon. It's been absolutely insane to see this game and this company grow from a super tiny team with an ugly blocky game to what we have now... and to see where this team is going gets me super excited.
