I love that thread in the HCE section. H2V is out (sort of). So let's see some awesome Halo 2 stuff!
I'm getting the editor as soon as I can get my hands on it, and I'll see what I can do about prettifying my BSPs into the engine and post them here.

I'm starting to port Valkryie to it. No shaders at first, working on lighting data, (for example, bloom functional on the light source), then hardcore shader work.

BG would blow for H2...just like coag sucks for H2..but i LOVE it for H1.. thats my opinion and probably most of the H2 communitys..oh well im working on a expanded Lockout with one massive warthog jump accross the middle..its pointless for FFA or DM but a great addon for CTF. its gonna be huge when im done...ill get pic up once i get back on my PC.

I agree... part of the fun in Halo 2, is that there really is not one big dominate level like there was in Halo - BG, CTF. It made the game a bit more boring, and you had to look somewhat hard to find a different gametype. I don't want that same thing to happen to H2V.

:) yea its pretty big, but if it is set on ctf, the size is almost cut in half caue there are sections of the map that people get no benefit from going into. its way to big for 3 people, but i think with at least 8-10 players it will be fun.. but with some of th open areas, you will need to check your back constantly.. but tats how i like to play.. the ever anticipating mouse waiting for the strike from the snake, only to in turn bite the snake
and eat it for breakfast : lol.. idk.. its late what can i say?

I can't wait get H2V and play it with you, I hope there is lots of places to hide, that's the fun thing to do, is get a sniper and run about in the shadows and snipe people when they're out in the open.

that looks cool. Reminds me of non-Halo 1 for PC (XBOX version of halo 1 is better) and non-halo 2 look, kinda like Halo 3, where in MC's view you could see the BR's rifle butt or almost see the AR's butt. Holding it a little bit outwards. c00l.

because he is my father.. 0_o... lol.. but no he started me off modeling.. whether he remembers it or not.. hes the 1 who started me off using box modeling and extruding technique waaaayyy back in the day when CE first came out.. and hes been helpin me with this project for quite some time.. and i greatly appreciate it.. i dont think he quite understands how much it means to me :):):)
oh and at phase.. last beta i got better fps then the rest of the h2v maps, and this 1 is portaled. it actually had to be portaled lol, the .ass exporter wouldn't even export it without them because it was to many pollys (its around 30-35k of them) but now it works fine, and the portals help out a lot.

look, it looks large, but its portaled.. in h1 CE i got 100-200 fps constant, and in halo 2 i got 100-150 fps constant.. i dropped to 60 once.. and im using a pair of 6800GS's which dont even meet the recommended (not required) specs for h2vista.... if you have 2 gigs of ram and a good processor and a 7 series or higher card.. this thing will run smoothly.

because its 30+k pollys... mbmb.. thats 3 times the size of an average halo map. the portals use a lil processing power to process.. but cuts down on the # of pollys being processed and rendered drastically and helps to increase the performance in the game.

I kind of agree with this, they kind of don't belong but somehow they look kind of kool, just don't quite fit.
Other than that looks amazing can't wait to see it with working halo 2 shaders :D

Nice! The reason I think the framerate might drop is because of scenery objects and weapons, because with the map that big and open, there're bound to be a lot of them rendered at once. But I really like the open style- I bet it'll fucking rock for snipers.
If I may just offer my two cents, I think it should have really moody lighting from sunrise/sunset, with big long shadows and warm colors. Lighting is key- it really does wonders. Make sure you spend enough time getting the lighting just right.

i like this guy lol.. haha.. thats just what i had in mind :) but actually scenery works different in halo 2, and most .. or a lot of what you see is actually bsp scenery.. which i don't believe has any processor robbing additions or many side effects, and has more positives than cons.. but ill have to check out with a higher source to make sure.. i haven't really looked at the engine that much.. I'm just basing that statement off what i have heard about it and how it works with different things.

Forgive me for my noobosity, but what exactly are you doing when you "portal" something? I got the part about decreasing the number of polygons being processed, but is portaling (if that's a word) a function in a 3d modeling program or what?
And again, I feel really stupid asking this, but hey-I might need to know this if I ever get around to making a map.

It's where you section off the map with invisible plane things that stop rendering past that point. You only use them in places where you wouldn't be able to see past. You couldn't use them in blood gulch alot for example, because the level is so open. But in a map like Chill Out, you can put them in every room, only rendering that room your in, while your in it. You dig?

What you just described reminds me of the texture "pop" you get in Gears of War (among other games) every now and then when you run from one part of a level to another. It might not be the exact same thing, but I understand now.

i think what you are talking about is much the same with graw, where at a certain distance they stop rendering the detail maps and higher quality textures and replace them with more of the same textures that are super low res, but from 1 mile out dont look that bad.. the only problem is they dont fix it for snipers when they zoom in, and you cant really see anything because everything looks the same. and as you move closer every now and then the textures seem to jerk and come to life with mroe detail. its a similar thing, and does much the same purpose, butfor portals, it actually makes the engine not render the polygons, so if for some reason to portals were to mess up and you walked into an area where one is, but they didnt render, youd actually see nothing, it would all eb invisible, and you could see the sky, and all the way down to the bottom of the sky.. btu if i am correct, the collision data would still eb there, so you wouldnt fall through.. btu dont hold me to that last statement.
