I have halo 2 vista and I like it, but I'm getting low performence on the game.(some areas will get around 30-50 FPS but other areas go around 7-10FPS)
I have already tried several things to increase it. My card is an Geforce 7600 GS with 512MB dedicated memory and an AGP8X bus.

here's what I've done already.

Installed newest drivers.
Added -novsync.
put the res to 800*600 and on lowest settings.
I overclocked my card (core from 400 to 473 MHz and the memory from 266 to 285 MHz, with extra cooling ofcourse).
Closed every program that was running in the background.
I've set the performence slider in the nvidia configuration screen to highest performence. All these thing have given me some improvement but it still gets low FPS sometimes. Someone knows what else I could do to improve my performence.

Scanned your PC for spy-ware and viruses they will chew up your processor like there's no tomorrow. Other than that i have no clue its very odd....

My pc is clean, there are no viruses or spyware on it (I scan for it very often).

There is something strange I noticed about the overclocking of my card. Every time I reboot the values reset to the standard ones (I'm using Ntune), so the 473MHz becomes 400MHz again and the 285MHz becomes 266MHz again

According to your specs...1gb of DDR 320 mhz? (isnt it 333...) That's...not good D: (even with 1gb readyboost).

And your graphics card is running on AGP...I think it would be better if it was PCI-E...

You need to get at least 2 gigs of DDR 400 memory. Vista Ultimate x64 eats up 1351.68 megs of ram with nothing running in the background for me, so 1 gig really doesn't cut it.

Well actually it's 400 MHz ram but my computer runs it in "virtual single channel", witch has something to do with the incompatibility between the ram units.

But I've found the problem myself. I installed rivatuner to do the overclocking in stead of Ntune and now I get good performence almost everywhere.

Um. I got Vista x86 Ultimate with everything maxed and vista goes to about 35% ram.

H2V brings it to about 70% on High.

After doing some intensive searches I found some spyware on my computer that was slowing it down, I've formatted my computer and reinstalled everything and it's quite fast now. :)

by the way does someone know how to get rivatuner starting up with windows vista, without windows defender saying that the program is blocked and cannot start with windows.

Windows Vista Ultimate leaves me about 364 mb of RAM, it's probably because I don't have ALL the good stuff.
