Is there anyway to get a different resolution in H2V other than the ones listed in the options? I want more choices!
Maybe some launch option or something, please help...
BTW, this game is the S-BOMB.

Search function on this forum?
Took me 2 mins to find this:
-vidmode 1440,900
You make a shortcut to the exe and add "...h2vista.exe" -vidmode 1440,900

looks like it's the same as Halo PC and CE.

i thought in pc it was -vidmode[1440,900,60]
-vidmode[L,W,R]
L=lenght
W=width
R=screen refresh

Vidmode command doesn't work with widescreen in Halo PC. The correct # of pixels gets displayed but the image itself remains stretched.
I'm too lazy to buy H2V although I already have Vista, but the command should work properly with H2V.

it kind of worked, just not that good. some parts of the HUD gets stretched, and unless you have the Text at the top of the screen, you can't see what people are saying, and what you've typing.

I tried a bunch of stuff in search but was stupid enough to not find anything lol
I'll try this in a little bit, I'm taking a break from the game (to give it a rest, its awesome but I don't need to over play it ).

Yeah I admit it wasn't very easy to find it.

What? The HUD will be stretched, but that's not exactly a problem...

They fixed the hud problem in Halo 2 (Vista), right? God, someone needs to make an AutoUpdate patch for the Xbox version... It's sooo annoying...

Meh, I can see text fine.
Also, no custom refresh rates in H2V? Blasphemy!!

You have to add the right address.
(I don't have H2V so I'm guessing the address)
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2 Vista\Halo2.exe" -vidmode 1440,900

I've tried both -vidmode 1440,900 and -vidmode[1440,900,60], but neither seem to work for me. It just runs it in 1280 x 768 resolution. It's not that big of a problem, I guess, but it would be nice to run the game at my monitor's native resolution.

Isn't there like DirectX hooking applications that let you configure things like refresh rates and monitor resolutions, as well as many other advanced rendering things?

I'm also stuck in this situation. I'm really not impressed with H2V so far - I'm not playing a game that's stretched as it looks awful on my 16:10 monitor :rolleyes:

That didn't work for me at all... the game wouldn't launch. However I went into the game and discovered 1440x900 selectable in the ingame video menu <_<

Hey guys, just letting you know that I created an application to let you use any resolution you want in Halo 2. It works on Halo 2 Vista and the 2 versions of the XP loader. I've hosted it on: http://www.rememberteh.name/halo2resolutionswitcher Enjoy :D I can't work out how to make custom resolutions work fullscreen though, they only come up windowed. Still beats having to use a non-proper resolution though :)

VB6 ugh uhh...
For full screen you have to hook DX.
Nice app nonetheless. :awesome:

There is a version that works in vista but with a messed up GUI, and you need to run it compatibility mode. I used it a while ago the get the good camo in halo and halo CE. I'll search for it and post something when I find it.

It doesent, It starts up but the whole app is Black
There is a way to fix it :) but when the gui is normal the program does not launch any game, but you can set the settings you want, and then switch back to the messed up gui and start the game you want just fine.

how to force halo2 to run on shader 1.1?
beele
December 1st, 2007, 10:05 AM
you can't
Hl2xpd
December 1st, 2007, 11:06 PM
you can't
is it because it doesnt have a built in option to force it? or will it not run without shader 2.0 at all? can I try forcing it with some utility?
what other ways can I incease performance of halo2? any tweaks? there isnt much I can set in the ingame settings.
Syuusuke

It won't run Shader 2.0 at all.
If you can somehow force it (probably hacking it) it'll look ugly and you'll probably not recognize things you see.
And yea, the video settings aren't too...diverse.

I just read somewhere that the way MS programs its games it be unlikely to run halo2 on previous shader versions until someone releases a mod version with lower res textures and reduce shaders, which looks even more unlikely.
but still, anyone by any chance knows if some developement related to this is going on somewhere or is planned to, in near future?

Get more ram, a new processor "if its outdated" , and a new video card if needed. Halo 2 is a power hog like anyone who played it knows. I have a top end computer but i still have problems. I think i'm gonna just get into UT3 anyways.

Also, I think BioShock is easier to "mod" than H2V.
