H2v Edit v0.01

This is my first release of my new halo 2 vista map file editor. Halo 2 vista maps will hide tags that aren't custom created with H2Guerilla. But at least people can start exploring some of the tags in their compiled form.

Features:

-Meta Extraction/Injection

Thats pretty fancy, but I haven't toyed with meta swaps since pre-HMT3.5 days. What can this thing do other than simple meta swaps? Can it open a map and recursively extract a tag, say a sky's meta for injection into another map? Or must it be setup and done by hand?

Oh and gratz on the application, its nice, clean, and sleek.

It's a tiny risk for a greater good. Awesome work!

is h2v meta the same as h2 xbox's? cause what if someone injected a model into h2 xbox then extracted the meta and injected it into a h2 vista map? first custom model injection mb.

Can this program extract bitmaps? So you could use em for something else? And is this what im saying illegal? if yes, please don`t ban me.... again,

No, extracting, Steva, is not illegal. Don't worry. Using them for something outside of H2V though could be illegal though, but probably not punishable here if you did it.

I think that these kinds of programs are useless. All we need is a bitmap extractor and we're good. That's all I used HMT for, and all it's really good at that's not nooby.

This program is quite possibly the most useful thing ever, and its one step into the right direction of helping to open this game.

I dont know how long you have been around SMASH but before HMT, we had hex and meta editing that did what we needed. Simple, yet effective.

Can someone describe the term Meta?

There are so many things that have 2 names for the same thing but you use the one term when Hex editing and the other one when doing something else like Float and Single.

My guess is that Meta is the raw data of an object.

In memory editing you could change the pointers from 1 object to the next one so you could transform MC into an Grunt regardless of the memory block size.Is that also possible with hex editing?

Meta swapping is better than that I guess because you can extract/inject Meta's across maps.

Ok, Bio, I came post HMT (barely) so I'm not sure what life was like here before it, but I'll stand corrected. If you feel it's good for the community then I do too, because you were there and you know what's best.

Can this do anything for models and bitmaps like HMT did? Sorry, I can't DL it for a while cause my good comp with Vista on it is burnt out (to be fixed) and my parents freak out when I download crap on this one.

K, Pat.

And you can extract meta from one thing and inject into into another but you have to do some things with the maps magic. Its been a long time and I would have to look back on the past to figure out how to use it.

But, theoretically you could place a bitmap in your map, and compile it. Then go into another map and extract the meta of the bitmap you want, and inject it into your map overwriting the bitmap you used but didn't want to. I think

Thanks for this Shade45. I had asked for a beta in another thread, and didn't notice you had already released it. :XD:

FireScythe is working on a bitmap extractor, maybe you guys could combine your efforts.

Thanks for sharing!

A meta is basically a modders term for a compiled tag(ex. uncompiled would be a tag thats editable in guerilla. and compiled is after tool has its way with it)

Or else I have public hosting people can use. As long as they know how to use a FTP program like Filezilla.

Looking at the tags that are compiled for all the maps (sp/mp/custom) they must have recompiled all of the maps with their new technique of storing tags in the shared map, unlike for the xbox where tags that were not needed were compiled into the map.

Here's a direct download mirror also, no fuss. (let me know if you need to host any more versions, shade.)

I don't know about anyone else, but when i use the program, everything seems out of order, like the tags in the biped section aren't even biped tags.
