View Full Version : A few questions about the new editor

I have a few questions about the new editor (which is ten times more easier to use than the old tool, praise God).

1) I was reading in the "read me" section of the editor that the editor works on a newfangled global file system, meaning that unlike CE, all your files don't have to be in the same spot. Is there an extent to this? Do I still have the make a insert map name here folder and put all my stuff in? If I do, what do I have to put in that folder?

2) Does water behave the same way as it did in Halo CE? (ie, the !$ script in max)

3) Is there a video/text tutorial about how to use Sapien properly? I can use it, but only limitedly.

4) How do I make waterfalls and flowing water in a map? I am currently working on a project that involves two waterfalls and running water, but I havet he slightest idea how to do either.

5) Do you still need to link water to an object in max, if so, do I just create a random box outside of my map and link it like I saw on a Guru's tutorial?

Any help in these areas would be MUCH appreciated. This will be my first map I release to the public, and I want it to be good. I won't be replying to this thread for a while because I'm going on a family vacation until next week. Any reply would be very helpful.

Maps go in scenarios\multi\map_name. What the whole multi area thing means is, there is a copy of the tags directory but with only your tags located in your Documents folder. That way, custom content does not have to be mixed with original content and tags don't have to get all messy-wessy.

Water is done by +media1 (or 2, or 3, adding on).

No video tutorial on Sapien that I know of. I could make one though.

Waterfalls, unknown yet, I think.

The frame linking system is the same. Basically you like your level to a frame object (it can be any shape, anything, in any location, but I say put it inside your level geometry, because that's where the default camera spawns in Sapien). Just link your level to it, like normal (frame blahblah).

Waterfalls aren't hard. You just get the water fall and it's mask. Then you select the waterfall shader template. You make it's x and y translation be transition with a min of 1 and a max of 0, and from 1 to 0.
