Well, I'm not sure which forum to put this in, so forgive me if this is the wrong forum.
OK, so this is the thread for my Halo 3 map, Last Resort. It wasn't in the internal beta, but it is the Halo 3 version of Zanzibar.

OK, now that you know what it is, let's get down to business:
MAP FEATURES:
Everything in Zanzibar.
2 Halo 3 ATVs on the beachhead.
A secret room.
Updated Power Generator room.
Halo 3 Gadgets.
Halo 3 sounds ripped right from the beta.
Halo 3 MC.
Halo 3 Assault Rifle.
Halo 3 Icons for the weapons.
New Halo 3 armor Permutations.
Whatever else I can think of.

My new H3 HUD. It's a cross between the H3 Multiplayer and H3 Singleplayer HUD. I'll be using it for Last Resort.
It's based off of the HUD here:

I used that as a source template, and severely modified it. I need to rotate the Assault Rifle and Grenades about 1 degree.
Well, I'm starting over on that building. This time, I have far less polys. However, I'm not too far, as I managed to get ten minutes of modeling in.
NOTE: I will not post any more screenies of the model until the model is finished.

A. I am assembling it in sections, meaning I model a building or something, then I move on to something else. When everything is modeled, I will combine them all in one model, which will be textured and then go ingame.

wow, ambitous goals. i would try to concentrate on making a solid map first, then adding everything else in, but your the modder, not me.
good luck. i would try to get some help though, it seems like a huge project right now.

i aint the best modeler but 2 me the top pic of the building looks very very basic and looks like you have just selected faces and draged them up and then extruded out the stairs, im not nockin u but i dont like the look of these models.

That looks pretty good, for an early model. I might use it. Or I might make my own. I don't know.
The stairs are actually about 10 boxes with the exact same dimensions, which were attached together. The building was also just a bunch of boxes which I put together and wielded the vertices.
I posted this at 1.5 percent done because I want to have people voice their opinions on the map so far, so I can have the as close as I can to the real thing.

Those are LOL aweful. Sorry, but too ambitious for a beginning modeler. I've been modeling for years and I wouldn't take on a project this big yet.

Still aweful, lots of chamfers, too high of poly for CE, too smooth, it pretty much isn't very good :3. Try smaller projects, you won't finish this one, and even if you do, it won't look anything like Zanzibar.

a couple of things i saw:
you cant have distructable vehicles in CE and have them sync.
Q. Is there going to be dual wielding?
A. Yes, if someone can make a good script for it.
-I have a dual-weilding script that works pretty well and would provide a pretty good basis for this, or I can re-write it to work with your weapon set. The only downfall is it will not sync online, and would require a small, external app that sends the player_add_equipment hsc command over the network. I just down know any programmming languages well enough for this.

Yeah, I have already downloaded your script, and I think it works very well. However, it doesn't sync online, so I'm not using it. If it did sync, I would have used it right away.

its impossible to make one that syncs using the internal scripting due to the lack of commands. However, thats why i suggested someone make a small app to transfer that command.

Also, it's MUCH harder to edit it than it is to model it RIGHT the first time around. Learn to model better before you take on such a big project.

I'd wait until Halo 3 is released. Then use your 360 (if you have one) as a reference intead. Or just make this map for H2V. CE is pretty much outdated. But I think you're doing pretty well so far. ;) +rep for effort

Why do people here have to give compliments on horribly modeled things? Buildings are not hard, they are boxes, yet somehow, this guy has seemed to mess them up. GJ.

Everything has to be one model, you just can't attach stuff. That might be acceptable to look at or get image in H2V but HCE will spit back so many errors that it'll make you wet yourself.

It is actually one model. 3DS Max 8 has a button that says "Attach" when you are working in Editable Mesh, so I use that and wield the vertices.

Basically, use the STL Check for a rough guess to make sure your level is sealed as you go along. It's modifier.
I figured you'd just attach and not weld the verticies, but because you did, good job.

that tower thing should be 40-50 triangles tops... why spend so much more time poly chopping when you could just model it low poly?
also your objects arent following the sealed world rules.
just telling you now before you waste too much time. look up some box and plane modeling tutorials.

And the object will be connected to the sky, so it would be a waste of polys to make a back for it.

STOP modeling this map. LOOK for a lot of tutorials on modeling. try www.pixel2life.com (http://www.pixel2life.com), etc, and look up kurk's tutorials. you can't just dive in, you have to LEARN FIRST! this isn't learning, this is like accidentally tying your shoe laces together, attempting to walk and bashing your front teeth out and bloodying the cement before ever figuring out that you don't even know how to crawl yet.

I"m a little lazy to look through pages of comments to see if anyone asked this...but, you say it's a halo 3 beta map.....and it's in the Halo CE section and I don't know if you made the mistake of forums or not but here's my question (looks good btw)
but, the high polys shouldn't be a problem if it's a halo 3 map so, Idk why some of you are talking pollies. Therefore it brings up is this for Halo CE??

heh glad you like it. Although it may be the h2 zanzibar model much of what was shown in those pictures was modeled from scratch. I haven't worked on it since that leaked video was first released so maybe ill start again this summer. Thread hijackulation!

What the hell are you on about? Clearly you don't understand much about modeling, or at least polygons. A polyon = a triangle. Simple as that. A map modeled with quads will be converted to triangles when it's exported. People use quads mainly because they're just easier to work with than triangles, when essentially it's just 2 triangles forming a quad, with the diagonal line hidden.

No, just be patient and learn the tools first. if you want to be a good mapper learn how to model efficiently. do every modeling tutorial you can find.
Modding "Teams" are overrated and just a big cluster f*ck. well most of them, especially when the only way to communicate is with text.

It is a Halo 3 Map for CE. CE can't render that many polys, are you kidding me? That's like 6000 triangles on one building! I suggest not using edit mesh and using editable poly. And if you are using poly, it looks like you are tessellating tons just to get small (Low Poly) effects in. If that is what you are doing, look up some plane modeling tuts and learn how to effectively duplicate edges and to cut edges as well. Triangulation isn't a bad thing to learn, either.

I'm actually making very low-poly boxes, deleting the ends, and then attaching them and wielding. That's the way I learned to model, so forgive me if I learned wrong.

There's no 'wrong' way as such, but that is a very time-consuming, wasteful, and constrictive method. Get Snaf to help you get the hang of plane modelling and try that, it's not the answer to everything but it is very versatile.
Basically, plane modeling is win. It makes modeling a whole lot easier, too.
I am just saying just give the guy a chance and some good feedback and maybe he can pull this off.
If you don't like to meet new people maybe you should just lock yourself in your house and stay there.
What he is saying is that he refuses to give good feedback on something he does not see fit for such. If I see something badly modeled, I know I'd straight out say it. Good feedback belongs to something that is well modeled.
And tbqh, an uber high poly structure that should be uber low poly does not a good model make.

you have got ultra high polys which arnt even needed on your new pictures.
if you carry on modeling like that u will get like 5 pfs ingame or less.

Okay, more than a couple things bothered me about this post.
MAP FEATURES:
Everything in Zanzibar.
2 Halo 3 ATVs on the beachhead.
A secret room.
Updated Power Generator room.
Halo 3 Gadgets.
Halo 3 sounds ripped right from the beta.
Halo 3 MC.
Halo 3 Assault Rifle.
Halo 3 Icons for the weapons.
New Halo 3 armor Permutations.
Whatever else I can think of.

Sounds not compatible with H2V.
More sounds not compatible with H2V
Even more sounds.
I know this was in the Halo CE section, and I looked over all the pages. Simply, you need to learn how to model, and if this is going to be in the Halo 2 Vista Section - the please look over our current limitations, and try to highlight what's realistic in this scenario.
CURRENTLY WORKING ON:
Model-wise: The Beachhead
Sound-wise: Getting 15 or so more sounds ingame.
Biped-wise: Working on getting 3 H3 Master Chief Permutations modeled, each with backpack weapons.
If you are only one person, why work on all of this at once? Prioritize. You need to take everything one step at a time. Not throw a whole whopin' 1.5% of work at us and then tell us you have all this being worked on. I have yet to meet one human being that can do all that at once.
OVERALL MAP STATUS:
Very early modeling.

that wireframe makes me want to punch infants. levels can NOT be box/primitive modeled it just won't work. and even if you sealed it all to make it work, who ever uv maps those models will :suicide:before he even begins. and it is an extreme waste of resources.

Lol, yeah. It's based on overall completion, so modeling the BSP is only about 25% of the work, in my opinion. You might have a different opinion, I don't know.

That is my new H3 HUD. It's a cross between the H3 Multiplayer and H3 Singleplayer HUD. I'll be using it for Last Resort.

That is true, it is basically impossible to animate a loading screen.. Also, why would you wanna waste the time to make an animated loading screen? People aren't going to stare at it for more that 5 seconds :(
Anyway, if you can pull off the HUD that would be amazing. I doubt you could though. The perspective in Halo 3 is basically part of a new game engine.. sort of. Halo 3 HUD perspective actually sort of looks like the MC's helmet, I don't think thats possible in Halo 1.

I know someone who has a working H3 model converter (They tested it during the beta), and is willing to give it to me on the day H3 is released, which is good for me, since I pre-ordered the Legendary edition.

i'm not here to stop you, i'm merely pointing out that you may have little chance of success. although, if you make this a 1-2 year project...i've seen some amazing things happen in a year. but seriously, i do wish you luck. you r going to need it, no doubt. and who knows, mb you'll prove me wrong...but rookies comming out with great stuff doesn't happen in this community very often. it takes experiance, not that i have much, but it's just the nature of the business. practice = perfection(almost).
anyways, i suggest getting a few followers to help you model it all. once u have a decent model, people will come to you and ask to skin it for you...people who r good too. but u have to have that initial model that looks very good. if you have nothing to show, no one will follow or help. so take your time and try to learn some stuff from the experiance...hopefully you'll make some new friends who can teach you stuff to help you later. HAVE FUN!!!

H3 Hog-Needs Custom model, but otherwise done.
H3 Assault Rifle-Set up in Guerrilla, works ingame, no new model yet.
H3 Spartan Laser-Works, currently uses the Plasma Pistol model.
H3 Pistol-Done!
Chuck Norris-Wait, he's not in here. Meh, I might put him in a secret room anyway.
Anti-Aimbot script: Done!
H3 HUD-Low-res bitmap done.
That's all I can think of at the moment, I'm working on the tags only, for now.
Also, I will leave the map unprotected. I will also release every tag I have on this thread as they get finished. All I ask in return is some credit if any of my tags goes into use in your map.

I'm still working out the bugs, it only targets approximately 85% of the time, and that's with no people in the server.

well.. i definately agree with the aimbot idea... nice idea, how will it turn on tho when the aimbots on? If thats on all the time on everyone couldnt it potentialy mess with gameplay? Specifically halos already built in magnetism and auto aim stuff that it comes with, and cross-air locking, that and needlers locking onto it...?

Have you learned how to plane model? Its a very useful technique, not hard to understand really either, course ive been doing it for a while lol.

no u didnt get what I said...
if hes attaching bipeds to the player that will mess with the aim bot, wont that affect auto aim also, because halo wont know that whats infront of it was intended to only be used by the aim bot, unless he attaches the bipeds on command when a player starts using the aimbot... so idk... might not do anything to the autoaim at all, or it could throw off your aiming idk. Other than that id imagine it would work amazingly if done right.

There has been. The only thing that is KiLLa's is the hull itself. No, I am not acting like you guys are blind, you just aren't listening. I'm telling you I made a lot of changes to that thing, I've gotten error after error, I've had to reskin the thing twice, I had to make custom animations for everything from the ground up, I took out the entire suspension and redid it. I'll take a video of it in action for you guys to see.

Anyway, you used the hog skin for the tires.. But you did it wrong.
Now that FR mentions it, it does look a heck of a lot like the ATV from Desolate ver1 beta map... :confused:

Now look at the handlebars in that video. They've gotten a new skin, as has the tires. I've also finally gotten biped animations to work.

Wheels don't turn nearly enough. Also whats keeping the guy on the back from falling off when the thing is actually moving? Cause hes definitely not holding on to something.

[edit x2] Oh, the skinning. I was just trying to get used to UVing in max, which I will never be doing now that I use Maya (mostly). And... I just made random stuffs in photoshop D:

Ah, thanks, I would have never thought of that.
The new skin is there, I took the warthog tire skin and I added a silver-ish shader to the middle, and I re-UVWed the tires for that to show up.

LOL yeah. Go to google and type in image resizer. See if you can make it viewable at 500x150 pixels, I highly doubt it though.

I'm in waaay over my head with this one, it probably will never be made in the near future. If someone makes something that rips stuff from H3 Maps, maybe. But until then, no.
Locking now to keep this from being bumped again.
