View Full Version : Got an Xbox 360!

Yup, got it yesterday, but still haven't opened it.
I got this awesome deal with it too:
360 Premium
Crackdown (Beta has ended, I know, but it comes in the deal anyway)
Gears of War
Call of Duty 3
Xbox Live 12 Months Gold
All for £300!
Haven't opened it yet though, cos my Dad said if he had paid by Barclays card, he would have got an extra 1 year warranty on it, but he forgot, so he's going back to PCWorld today to refund and pay again by the other card (which is well worth the extra 1 year warranty...seeing how dodgy 360 hardware can be).
ANYWAY, haven't thought of an XBL Gamertag yet (and no, I ain't gonna put it as TIA-Gangsta). Maybe something around the name "Sav" (my nickname in school).
Also, are there any reccomendations or advice before I hook up my 360?
I'm gonna get another wireless controller and quick charge kit later on.

Mine just died on me yesterday; it's less than a year old and I don't even play it that much. I was keeping it ventilated too. :(

Opened it yesterday and damn it's fun...and I haven't even gone online yet!
Gears of War and COD3 are totally awesome, but when I played Crackdown, it didn't keep my interested enough to calm my need for GoW or COD3.
I'll probably trade it in, Blockbuster are doing a deal with if you trade in any selected game, you get Forza 2 for £10 (and Crackdown's one of the selected games).
Or I might trade it in for an extra controller or something.

PCWorld? Bah your screwed already >_<
Great price though bloodly hell :) Gamestation has that pack for £319 you can get an extra controller or some thing for £5 more I think too.
I would save my money and get one but I have no big tv so its wasted really.

What's wrong with PCWorld? They're joined with Comet now (PCWorld owned by Comet that is), and we've been buying electricals from Comet for years with no problems...
Oh, and 46" Samsung M87 FTW! By the way, I don't wanna pay another £50 for a wireless adaptor (rather spend it on something worth it), but my router isn't near the TV.
I heard about the crossover method where you connect your laptop and 360, then make the laptop to allow the 360 to feed off the connection.
The ethernet cable given in the Pro pack connects the two perfectly, but I can't figure out how to make the laptop give internet...

For a gamertag, how about Sav Ravager, or Savage, or something along those lines?

May I suggest COD2? That game really rocks. The Russian weapons in COD2 are teh pwn.

Savage! Ha, that's clever. But someone's bound to have that GT. Anyway, I made an account called "Sav" already, and I've got 11 achievements, so won't be making a new one anyway.

Oh, and I meant Currys. Replace all the parts where I said "Comet" with "Currys".
I always get muddled up with those two, it's cos they're similar stores and start with C.

If you're smart about it and you won't get banned.
Don't use backups on LIVE. That's a terrible idea (if downloaded, it could fail to have all stealth checks) and illegal.

heck yeah, COD2 got me interested in WW2 shooters (before, they weren't my thing). But if you have it on PC there's no reason to get the X360 version unless your PC is bad.
Still, I tried the X360 version and it looks and plays as well as it would on a nice PC. I highly recommend COD2 if you don't already have the PC version (because the X360 version only had 8 players max online :()

You mean a Core Console right? No way can they sell a Premium Console for 130.
The trade price for the Premium Console is around £200-210. Is it used? I wouldn't buy used 360's. You're void of warranty and it has more chance of breaking down (since it's older).
Or maybe you meant £230?

If you take care of it, and not start playing 5 hours a day, then that won't happen.
My mate has a 360 launch console (got it first day in the UK), and he's taken care of it, knows when to stop and limit himself, and he hasn't had one problem with it, not even over heating.

PC World's customer support is shocking. Therefore if your 360 fucks up (ring of death or whatever) and you try to get it fixed, it will be a huge hassle. I dunno why they just seem to not be able to cope with talking to their customers in a professional way, maybe its cuz they have shitty staff that know nothing.

Eww...those are mank...well in my local Currys/PC World store anyway. Those are on for hours on end every day too...I'd be wary with those.

Not if you go right up to their faces and demand what you're asking for
My Dad can be quite intimidating, and he's smart with his words. He's experienced in business so he knows how to use the available resources against the enemy wisely (e.g. receipts, warranties, customer satisfaction, the law, etc).

No, he's just lucky. My 360 was made in September 2006, I didn't play it all that much, and I made sure to keep it well-ventilated, but it died anyway. All you can do is cross your fingers and hope that if it dies, it dies in warranty. :(
At least Microsoft's customer support makes the return process as smooth as possible.

Those things don't just overheat for no apparent reason. It's about where it lies, and how you treat it.
You may have thought it was well ventilated, but take a look again. It may be around items that get pretty hot also. Things like your TV or digibox maybe? Amplifier? Speakers?
