Ive been having some trouble with my usb devices on Vista, it happens with about 75% of the usb devices I plug in. I get errors like
Windows needs to install drivers for you 'xbox360 controller'
Windows needs to install drivers for you 'xbox360 headset'
Windows needs to install drivers for you 'cte-640-u v4.0-3' (my art tablet)
Windows needs to install drivers for you 'unknown usb device'
Windows needs to install drivers for you 'usb mass storage device'
etc
I have it search for driver software and I am informed that I need to insert the install disk that came with the product, which don't exist at all as they are plug-and-go.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like part of your Vista installation, particularly the driver installation, did not go properly. Have you tried searching the web for those drivers? Does it prompt you to do so?

I get
Locate and install software (searches, then tells me to insert a disk)
Ask me again later (just makes the pop-up go away)
Dont show this message again for this device (same as above)

And I had Vista installed at a repair shop (New hard-drive, old one died)
