im very new to map making and I am currently still toying with maps but I think I may have figured out the basics. so I cant make any amazing maps just yet but I know most of you all can. So to share my idea... to make a killbox or killsphere map like in Half-Life 2 DeathMatch. If any of you think that would make a good map please go ahead and make it because it would end up better than anything I can do yet :) and it would be cool to know I "inspired" a good map

How about something like Lockout, similar texures, but more platforms, maybe like a tower!

There could be holes in the floor so you could reach the bottom easily too!

Buy this book (https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?ii=22320&c=single&aff=4327&ev=2363942dd5), to help you get a good map idea and theme, then rep me once you get more rep.

One hint that a lot of maps are lacking:

Keep the Gameplay factor up to par, do not let the maps be all aesthetics and lack gameplay.

Want proof? The 5 maps in UnrealTournament 2004's demo? He made 2 of them. (ONS-Torlan and DM-Rankin if you want specifics, they're also 2 of the most popular maps.)

I disagree with much he says, but only slightly.

Some other good tutorials of his are: http://help.hourences.com/tutorialsindex.htm <-- there. Most are based around Unrealengine (usually 3... which is the Gears of War version) though.
