Map Name: Highway 109 or Route 109, not sure which one sounds better.
Based off of: Mombasa Bridge, Gyrophobia.

I started out today with nothing, no map, no textures, nothing. That was at 5 pm est. So, I went and ate dinner, watch some tv and decided to have at it. I read over the tutorial files again, browsed the interwebs for photoshop tutorials and here I am about 5 hours later (of which not all was computer time)

Basically this map in its current state is boring, plane, but workable. What will happen later is I will a human side, and a covie side to make things interesting. The Black box you see with ether be a tunnel spawn, or a closed door saying highway closed. This is pretty much my first time actually making textures for my models, and I am quite pleased for that.

So have at it, let the C&C come at me.

Oh, does anyone know why its called Highway 109? :D

I like you're effort. It's seems scaled wierd, and not enough stuff around it.

This is H2V, don't be afraid to use you're polies. Right now this is REALLY simple.

Simple is good :P It's all in the shaders for the look. Though some extra polies won't hurt much.

If you say this is based off of Gephyrophobia, then you should try to keep the layout as similar as you can.

Thanks for the comments and such guys. I didnt show this earlier because it wasnt done yet (textures were not in place around all over) But there will be a bottom section to the map, which is the only thing I loved about Gyrophobia, the two sections of the bridge deal. What I didnt like about it, was the size of that map. Trying to make this one smaller.

Here is a WIP of the bottom section.

What I will eventually do is put a blast whole or two on the top section with debris that will allow say a ghost and perhaps a hog/spectra. I will use more pollys with these, adding rivets, wire, broken pieces, etc.

@ SMASH, I looked over the map after what you said, and I think the rather large sign in the middle skewed the scaling. I made it smaller, and much more like a modern day highway sign, let me know if that helps.

Edit- that MC in the picture is scale, he is 95 Max units high, and if I am correct, 100 max units = 1 world unit and MC is just shy of 1 world unit according to the tutorial.

Looks nice but looks like really boring gameplay as of now.

Yeah, add more detail to the middle of the structure.
And the chief is 70 units high, 1 unit = 1.2 in. Chief is 7 ft tall, not 10

i dont think its big enough, tower would need to go higher, and lanes need to be wider, ghost is a motorbike in sixe terms and it fills 1 lane, the hog should fill 1 lane but not a ghost

Lookin pretty good so far, as Aeron said, I think the center tower that holds the signs needs to be taller. :)

I think you need more detail bitmaps, but it does look in trusting. I would Play it.

I now agree, the tower does need to be taller.

Some good news, my map is ingame! I have within a day taught myself how to use these tools, make a map, make bitmaps, and create shaders (allbeit basic ones) This is a great personal accomplishment. Anyway, here it is ingame with the custom bitmaps

Hopefully from this point, I can begin to add more details, more special effects and such. My next job is creating bump maps, I am off!

Looks cool with the sky but still too basic. Make blast holes in the bridge that'll make bottle necks. Overall, make the bridge look like it got the shit beat out of it.

that is what I am hoping for in the final product. :)

If you need help modeling, PM me. I don't have 3DS Max at this instance but I can walk you through what to do.

My video card is in the RMA process...

You should add something more then a straight road/bridge. Looks boreing right now.

Btw smash, you spelt radeon wrong on your computer specs D:.

You should add some stairs or something for snipers to get up on.

You've used to many polies for the structure detail under the bridge that is hardly ever going to be seen, and too many polies for the support lines on top of the bridge. The sides of the highway should be taller. overall, your poly distribution and detail distribution is terrible.

Try adding maintainence walkways or something so that the player can go above and below the bridge, and some kind of dividers in the middle, while also giving the bridge an upards arc. A flat bridge is hella boring, and your map will be too, unless you fix all these things.

Yea, you should make the wires like this bridge where you can walk on them:

http://www.humberbridge.co.uk/resources/humber_bridge_shot1.jpg

Then make a room at the top of the bridge.

EDIT: LOL, SNAF, exactly what I was saying.

Ahh a bridge map. Peterl88 or some thing like that tried to make one for CE but I think the project was scrapped/put on hold indefinitely for some reason.

map definitely needs to be bigger, and maybe with some curves and exit ramps in it? also it's not really scaled well, look at a large suspension bridge with a person standing on it =\

Like the idea though, anything that's not a stereotypical element based map is a good start

Considering you can BR perfectly accross it, it will be little to no fun...
