Hello all, this is my first post here but some may possibly remember me from the Gearbox forums a while back, I created the map "Gallows Pole." Anyway, I've finally reached a point with my newest map where it's actually starting to look how I want it to, so I thought I'd post some screens to see what you guys think.

The premise of this map is that it takes place at the bottom of the waterfalls in the map "Damnation" from Halo 1. Anyone who's played that map knows that a fall to the bottom meant certain death in nothing more than a big box, but I always wondered, if there was more down there what would it look like? This is where my map comes in. Far below the falls is a ruined structure that hasn't been used in ages.

The layout for this was created around single flag CTF/Assault gametypes as those were always my favorite in Halo CE, but it will support all of them. The map is multi-tiered with different ways of getting to each spot and incentives to use the whole thing.

I still have quite a bit of work to do, especially on textures, and as you can see I haven't yet put the waterfalls or any water in. I hope to have a beta version ready in the near future, so I'll probably be looking for some people to help me test it.

Here are some screenshots, I welcome any comments/criticism.

That looks real nice, man. I remember good times in Gallows Pole back in the day, also.

Keep it up.

Awesome job dude, I'd almost assume it was a rip from Delta Halo (not that I'd honestly care). Awesome job.

Love your balanced color palette and attention to detail outside the playable area. Many people forget how much a couple of bushes atop the mountain walls can add character to a map.

Not sure how well it flows, but from the screenshots I've seen it appears to flow pretty damn well. Plenty of options yet there is order to the chaos.

Who cares if its boxy, it's Bungie-caliber.

Was going to post a teaser of my map in my thread, but yea with you and Jahrain I really need to wait until the polish is ramped up a bit.

It would be ok if this was halo 1 but this is for halo 2 in witch we can aford to make canyons and rock formations not boxy.

Everything aside. It looks great.

Even in an early stage, it looks as though you've put much thought and work into this.

In my opinion, Halo 2's golden rule is: keep things close combat.

You will find the best reactions from those. And from what it looks like, you have a somewhat balanced, close quarter map.

Nice map, nic euse of textures, but I'm not really a fan of Delta Halos texturing. It's way too boring for me. Personal preference though. I'd still play and love the map.

If it was rusty overgrown metal, more like Desolation, then you'd have me Jizzing :P

Just the boring square floor tiles and brick walls are what I hate. I always thought bungie could have made a better ancient sort of theme. It doesn't seem very haloish or forerunner to me. seems more like an ancient Aztec sort of texturing.

But again, personal texture preference. I'm a really patterny sort of guy. I often just go into empty lan servers and just play the campaign missions and multiplayer maps over and over again, just looking at walls and ceilings and texturing. Levels like Delta Halo and Sanctuary never intrested me. But, I do see 1 patterny forerunner texture, and thats enough for me I spose :P

Awesome work :D

Nice lighting, especially. It'd be nice if some of the textures were changed a bit though, everything looks the same, like walls and ceilings.

No, curved walls do not belong in interior forerunner architecture. The map looks great so far, I think a little more variety in wall texturing would make it better, though. +rep

edit: will when able :(

This looks awesome. Looks like you did a great job with this, totally nailed the shaders/textures. Think you could possibly give people some tips on how to texture your map so well, finding good textures (and ones that work) seems to be proving quite the task :).

Holy crap! That's a nice-lookin' map you've got there. It should look mighty-sweet with the waterfalls speeding to the ground, too!

Seeing those black people reminded me what this name reminded me of--Deliverance, Alabama =p (no racism intended, that's just how it was D:).

Hey thanks for the compliments. Like I said I still have a good amount of work to do, mostly on the texturing. Right now I'm working on adding more detail so that it's not quite so bland looking.

Well the only advice I can really give is to take your time, and don't be afraid to start over. I've scrapped entire sections multiple times because they didn't look quite right.

The textures and detail maps are straight out of Halo 2 Xbox. The bump maps I made myself, and created new shaders since none of them were included. I ripped these textures from my modded box, but I believe someone posted a package with all of the bitmaps somewhere on these forums. They don't include bump maps though so you'll have to make your own and create the shaders too.
