your monitors have to be the same res and shit or what because if not i'm setting this up for my dual monitors.
Cortexian
October 2nd, 2009, 05:54 PM
I believe TripleHead2Go/DualHead2Go require monitors of the same size, but SoftTH will let you define the resolutions for the "secondary" monitors. I haven't played with that though, since all my monitors are 1920x1200 24 inchers. All you have to do to "disable" the third monitor is set "DeviceIDLeft/Right=" to "-1" depending on what monitor you're missing, I have no left monitor so it's "DeviceIDLeft=-1" in the config... Until tomorrow... :)
That was posted yesterday, and tomorrow has arrived... Today ushers in a new era in single-screen rape and destruction, for the triple monitor setup has become!!!

First of all, how did you manage to convince them that you required 3 monitors? My parents would tell me to fuck off and stop wasting energy. On top of that I'd be verbally abused anyways for asking for anything that allows me to have more fun on the computer.
Cortexian
October 4th, 2009, 10:04 PM
They're only acting as a loan for me, I'm currently trying to find a job and I'll pay them back ASAP. The reason they agreed is because I convinced them that NCIX had the last 245B's for sale on the internet (due to the fact that they're now discontinued), and that I wanted to have three of the same monitor. I started with one 245B, and ordered two 245B's from NCIX, only later to find out that one of the two I ordered was broken during transport from one NCIX facility to another.

Quad-monitors would be completely pointless for gaming, and I've wanted a triple-monitor setup for a lot longer than any "fad" that's been going around the internet.
My next multi-monitor setup will obviously be a nine screen setup, but that wont be for a few years.

That's what I've been doing with the obvious exception of this little expenditure, I haven't found a whole lot of places that don't take debit or cash. As for a car, what prevents you from buying it in full with cash? That's what I plan on doing as I hate leasing and such.

lets me use it as a credit card over the internet but it's only my money, so it's really good.
and i got a couple of accounts set up, so i have one saving for a car, another for my holliday to america, another for my insurance... it just allows me to pay everything up front because it is ALWAYS cheaper doing it that way.
what ever i have left i budget for, so i basically dont see any money that i owe for something else. works out great for me.
i could use another 2 monitors... of course i'd be looking at a major upgrade to do it... hmm...

Nothing is wrong, that's just what happens when you use SoftTH instead of TripleHead2Go.
You don't even notice it since you're to actually watching the other screens. They're just there so that you've got something for your peripheral vision to see. You'd be surprised how much more you actually see if you add peripheral vision to the mix.

Well, SoftTH renders the entire image on one card and then sends the two side images to the second card to be displayed on the side monitors. So there's a bit of a delay right there. Both monitors have the same refresh rates and response time as well.
I ran 6060x1200 and could have taken it up over 7200x1440.

I'd rather have the side monitors have the same lag and FPS differential, instead of having the center and right the same and the left off by a bit. I wouldn't be able to stand that.
Hopefully Matrox can fix TripleHead2Go to work with 1920x1200 soon, so I can use SLI + 3 monitors.

I heard they were trying a setup that used both of the DL-DVI ports on the graphics card which fed to the TH2G box, then to the three monitors. However I'm trying to figure out how they would make the computer see it as "one monitor" if they're using two DL-DVI ports on the same graphics card...
And SLI doesn't work across two ports yet either, so...

Oh I see, well in that case it may be a possibility.
Depending on who has the best cards when I build a totally new rig, I'll decide then. Though I assume that Nvidia won't be far behind ATI when it comes to multi-monitor support now that they've been thrown into the mud. If I had the option to buy completely new components right now I'd definitely buy ATI series cards for the multi-monitor support, but stick with Intel processing.
However I don't have the money to buy a new motherboard that supports ATI cards in crossfire plus two ATI cards. The system I have I'm pretty much maxed out with supported hardware at the moment.
Now if Matrox uses both DVI ports on the graphics card, and if each port can output the same bandwidth... That means that we could have:
2 x DL-DVI = 6 x 1680 x 1050 (10,080 x 2100) max
Right?

Running two th2go is already possible if you wanted 6 screens as well. I'd expect nvidia to bring the multi-monitor setup used on their workstation cards to the desktop at a later date, if G300 doesn't already have it.
Go play some source games with your setup, they work great~

I thought Nvidia had multi-monitor over SLI a while ago? That's what made the Big Bang 2 drivers a "big deal".
The "mockup" of the Fermi board that was shown only had a single DVI Port because it was in the Tesla configuration; They can probably easily throw another port or two on there, but getting it to work on the same level as ATI's solution will take quite a bit more architectural work. They'd have to actually put stuff in to handle the extra ports.
Of course, considering the fact that the mockup was faked, no one knows what the final product will actually have.
ATI's cards are probably going to perform close to or better than Fermi while costing a lot less. Unless you plan on doing scientific computer, you'll probably be better served by the ATI card.

That's like 2.6 degrees C, they recommend painting in 10-32 degrees C.

October 16th, 2009, 12:31 AM
Nice result. What exactly did you bathe the case in before you applied the black spray paint? Something to get rid of the paint that was already on it?
You can probably save a lot of money by just buying some heatshrink, wire mesh and black zip ties separately. If you don't have a heatgun, you can get away with using a blow dryer or soldering iron for the heatshrink.
You could probably get all the stuff you needed for under $10 excluding the hair dryer/solder iron if you look around online. I know that a warehouse that I lived by sold heatshrink for around a dime a foot depending on width and such. Wire mesh wasn't much more, and zip ties can be purchased for cheap in plenty of places.
Cortexian
October 16th, 2009, 12:43 AM
Not all wire mesh is created equally, therein lies the problem. The stuff that comes on most PSU's isn't great because it's to loose and you can see through it, where as the stuff I plan to get is practically opaque.
I bathed it in water with dish soap, just to get all the dust and metal particles off before painting. There wasn't really a paint on it before, just bare aluminum or whatever the metal was, hence the primer.

I'm going to get one of those rounded IDE cables eventually, cheaper than buying new drives just for SATA. I'd buy something like this (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4143846&CatId=468) but it would end up being even MORE expensive than just buying new optical drives.
Also no, eventual plan is TripleHead2Go with SLI enabled. Hopefully Nvidia can enable SLI on two DL-DVI ports on the same card, then the rumored TH2G concept that uses both to up the bandwidth for larger resolutions will be worth it.
Edit - Heh, I came up with a decently witty comment from some recent posts here to go along with my case from now on;
"Some say it looks like a particle accelerator, and that it eats diced velociraptors for breakfast... All we know, is it's called The-Tank."

To be honest, I would never even consider using the TripleHead2Go box. Even if I had the absolute best graphics cards out there and I could increase performance with Crossfire/SLI, I wouldn't take advantage of it because it would be more of a nuisance than an advantage.
With the box, I'm pretty sure it makes all your monitors appear as one to your desktop. So, Windows would behave as if it was only one screen. If you ever maximize a window, it will go across all monitors, which blows ass. You wouldn't be able to dock stuff to the sides of individual screens. Your taskbar would start all the way on the left monitor and end all the way on the right. Also, every game you play would HAVE to support the device for the screen resolution and the HUD.
Cortexian
October 16th, 2009, 04:09 PM
It comes with some software that addresses most of those issues jcap, I believe you can "define" the actual monitors within the software so you can choose which monitors you would like certain programs to maximize on. The taskbar issue can also be addressed iirc.

If you want to eliminate the majority of that mess flip your hard drives around so the connections are facing the front of your case, route the cables behind the hard drive cage. Loop the fan wires up and behind the fans themselves if you've got the cable length and route as much as you can behind the motherboard tray.

That's a lot better, only thing I can recommend to make the HDD area less of a mess is to flip them around so the connectors are facing the front of the case. Do you have a gap between your hard drive cage and the back of your case, if you do then you can easily run the cables back there and then connect them to the newly forward facing connectors. That would hide most of your "mess".
And I'd recommend moving your motherboard 4/8pin auxiliary power cable above your HSF. That way it has less distance to travel and you might be able to tuck the excess cord behind the motherboard tray.
This is the auxiliary cable I'm talking about:

Not much chance of my tucking cables behind the motherboard tray in this case, I guess...
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y259/Varmint264/Computerinternals1.jpg
The drive bays back right up to the side of the tray, so the only access behind it is below the hard drive section. Though, this case doesn't have any access to air from the front, just the holes in the side panel, and most of the cables are badly tucked underneath the DVD drive. My TV Tuner does slightly go over the fan for the GPU, but it idled at 40C before I installed the TV Tuner and it still idles at 40C.
Admittedly, I'm a noob; what's this black thingy I just noticed at the back of my case? Is it optical out for audio?

I should be able to do that, considering the primary and secondary drives are on ide1, but ide2 has the tertiary drive and the dvd drive, so i won't be able to flip that one around, but i guess it's ok, being a 36 inch cable i can tuck it easily and hide most of it. It's a great mouse imo, I was able to test one out for about a week when I was doing a computer accessory review as a project for school. I actually contacted Logitech and asked if they could lend me one for the duration of my project, and they actually sent me one with a pre-paid return box and everything. At the time I was using a Logitech MX 518 as my primary mouse, they were extremely similar but the G500 had some better features... Laser instead of the optical on my 518, Adjustable weight, and the "hyper-scrolling" feature that most new Logitech mice have. The programmable macro settings and such were neat to play with as well.
It's an awesome mouse, I highly recommend it if you're looking for a wired high-end gaming mouse and you don't want to spend the cash on a G9 or G9x.

I like it. I originally had a G5 and was looking for a new mouse. I saw the G500 just came out, so I got it, and it's great. It has all the good stuff of the G5 plus some improvements.

You should try a triple monitor setup with your 260's in SLI and connecting the two side monitors to your 8800gt, I've seen people that were able to get SLI + SoftTH working in that manner (using a third card for side monitor output).
Also, nice setup except for one thing that I noticed... Does the Antec 902 not have holes under the PSU so you can mount it with the fan down? It really decreases case ambient temperature if the PSU is self-cooling.

I can run this q9550 on AIR to, This q9550 is such a good overclocker, that my Voltage for running 4Ghz completely stable is only 13mv higher the the VID of the chip itself, Time to brag.
I got to 4.630Ghz at only 1.44volts which a Your TRUE or my H50 can handle.
at 4.5Ghz i achived that at only 1.408volts
at 4.3Ghz i ran 3dmark06 at 1.312volts
at 4.0Ghz im 24/7 stable with only 1.232 volts and my temps stay below 50c and on cold days, i see one of my cores drop to 19c idle T_T.
*step 1*I booted my computer at stock voltage and stock 2.833Ghz and ran Super PI and got 16 seconds. The voltage 1.184volts.
*step 2*Reboot the computer
*step 3*Then I just changed my FSB to 471 and didnt touch my voltages exept on the memory, and the memory clocks and timings.
*step 4* I booted up at 1.184 volts stock voltage but at 4Ghz
*step 5* I ran Super PI and it ran just fine and from 16.8 seconds i went down to 11.5-11.8 seconds at stock voltage Lols!!!.
Im contemplating on running my q9550 at 4.2Ghz 24/7 and let my loads hit 65-70c. I probably will when i get my SLI bridge up.
I might go for 4.7Ghz suicide later on but i want to keep this golden q9550 for a long time because its with the big hitters.
*NOTE* We should make a overclocking club on mod, but i dont think alot of people here overclock there hardware. :D

Thats a nice q6600, you might be able to get a record out of it. Just put that bish on a benchtable, grab some 120mm fans, and maybe a house fan, and get CPU-z running and start getting 4.5+Ghz. q6600's can sometimes do 4.8Ghz well i dont know the records but ive seen a guy on overclock.net that has a verification at 4.6ish Ghz with a q6600 :D.
You could go down another 780i-790i ultra from Zotac on newegg thats like 100 bucks.
Or get a Ep45-ud3p motherboard,(ive done 2190FSB) and clock that q6600 to its knee's and maybe you can take a gamble and hack sli like i did ;D.
My q9550 does 0.992 volts for 3.0Ghz 24/7 stability. Pretty impressed with my voltage scaling. :)

It's not horrible but there are lots of cables visible now because of the way I had to replace the "2xMolex modular cable" with a "4xMolex/1xFloppy modular cable" so I could connect a "1xMolex - 2xSATA cable adapter" and plug in the iCage fan.

It doesn't look too bad. At least you can pat yourself on the back since the cables don't really obstruct the airflow of the second front case fan.
Cortexian
December 30th, 2009, 05:34 PM
When I get in there and fix it I'm going to look into moving the HDD in the bottom of the iCage to the top, because if you look closely you'll notice that some of the cables are squished right up against the back of my top GPU. Once I do that I'll be able to hide the cables a bit better in the bottom iCage slot, or behind the 5.25" drive bays.

Yea, I have one. Compared to the MX518 this G9X is far superior, laser mice are way more sensitive and accurate than any kind of optical mouse. The main reason I upgraded from my MX518 to an MX Revolution was because DusterBuster spilled like half a bottle of Bawls on the 518, and now the right-click is fucked. I upgraded from the Revolution to this G9X because the rubberized stuff on the right side of the mouse was almost all rubbed off and it kept loosing signal strength and glitching out all the time.
I don't argue that it's ugly as hell though.

I was going to hold out for the 5970's but my 4850's were overheating like crazy... couldn't find the problem with them after cleaning them out and reseating the heatsink, so I bought some 4890's to replace them as the 5 series wasn't out yet.

It's a shame you can't route that 4 pin mobo power connector underneath the motherboard.

8-Pin.
yeah, if only I had a dremel.

What do you need a dremel for? Just lift the motherboard off the standoffs and feed the cable underneath, I know a few people that have done this with great success!

It's a 8-Pin cable, only the AM3 boards use them... They're quite a bit thicker.

I know, my HX1000 Watt has a couple 6+2Pin cables, they'd fit under my board just fine... And I was referring to people I knew with AM3 boards as well.
If you want you could also just take the sleeving off and run the individual wires under the board, would be very thin.

True, but it doesn't bother me enough.

Seein' all these people with very little wiring mess in their cases led me to give it a shot.

I managed to remove a couple cables and rearrange them; is it at least an improvement?
Now, out of curiosity... you all can see there's a big space underneath the hard drive bays. Would it be worth the effort to cut an opening in the front of the case at the bottom there and install an intake fan? Currently the video card sits at around 55 celsius at idle (I did just clean the dust out too) and I wouldn't mind dropping that temp a bit.
