Since the motherboard I bought didn't fit my case, I went to an electronics store and bought an Antec 300. I'll take some pictures later. For my first complete build though, it seems like a great case.
that's a good case for cable management without having to drill any holes, you can just shove everything in the space next to the hdd racks.

Now for a shameless plug from me, now I don't know the guy running this site but he seems to know what he's doing and it's a good idea for a site. There are similar sites out there but this guy seems pretty dedicated to the site from everything I've heard. The site is called "My Rig Room (http://www.myrigroom.com)" and it's dedicated to showing off your PC, complete desktop setup, etc... Anyway, in order to get his site running with a bang he's offering a free copy of Dead Space for simply signing up and participating on the site a little bit. Make a post in the Showroom or a Build Log if you've recently done some building and such *COUGH*ThePlague*cough*.

The point? If I was to take pictures of my laptop it would look 100% no different than in those pics I posted. Now a desktop I can understand since the outside and inside will usually not look the same as other computers and will have some unique element to it.
I may be coming from the wrong side about this, though. Do you mean to say?: "What is the point of posting a picture of something that isn't personalized?" In that case I would understand, but there are no guidelines forcing us to show some customized piece of hardware.

I personally would rather see pictures of the actual computer than any old pic off the internet. Not because it's going to look different, but just because it's putting forth effort to show off what you actually have.

No, I mean there's no real point to posting a picture in this thread if it's not your own computer. Everything I know about this thread tells me this is not "show us which computer you have", this is "show us what you've done with your computer/workspace".

taking Freelancers advice on H50 mounting
My advice is to mount the CPU block portion upside-down so the tubes are on the top, I see you flipped the radiator/fan portion.
The theory is that air will rise to the top in a liquid-solution, so putting the CPU block tubes above the block prevent any air bubbles from forming there. They form in the radiator if they do at all, which isn't a big problem.
Keep the radiator/fan portion like it is, but flip the CPU block part as well.

Cortexian
March 31st, 2011, 02:49 AM
I have the completely opposite opinion on Avatar, seeing it close to 7 times in theaters and probably 20 time since in 3D and extended varieties.
Just finished copying over the last bit of Top Gear I had elsewhere... Unfortunately I've discovered that if you plan on doing RAID-5 it's pretty much required to do it with a real hardware RAID card. The "PCI SATA Controller" software RAID card I'm using (based off a Silicon Image 3114 chip) can only sustain 13MB/s write speeds, copying all my data back to this RAID is literally going to take 3-4 days. At least when I benchmarked it using HD Tune Pro it got reads up to 60MB/s which should be more than enough for streaming and such.
Oh, the burst write speed starts at about 110MB/s but degrades to 20MB/s in about 10 seconds, then it takes another 10-20 seconds for it to drop down to 13MB/s.

That is, there's really no reason to mount them in drive bays since they have no moving parts. Lots of high-end rigs I've seen have them suspended just off the surface they're sitting on, usually by making use of some type of clear materiel under them. And they're either on the bottom of the case or on compartment tops in cases with bottom compartments separated with a horizontal "shelf".
@InnerGoat, look at my case and wiring, do that. You have a regular length PSU so you can get all your PSU wires out of the way VERY easy in the 690.

My Phenom which is comparable to that CPU is doing almost double the GFlops (~42) with a lower frequency and a lot less heat (max heat was 48 which is your lowest).
The only thing you are doing is turning energy into heat and making it more unstable.
Cortexian
July 25th, 2011, 06:48 PM
Except it is stable, and IIRC the IntelBurnTest displays only displays the GFlops of one core or something. Either way it's inaccurate. If your CPU is comparable to my Q6600 stock, then this Q6600 at 3.4GHz will still destroy your Phenom in every real world test.

http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/6676/69259062.jpg
I think that's enough breathing room for both the cards. The bottom one is the "second" one of course, it's got the fan on the HDD cage blowing right on it, and there's a supply of cold air from the bottom of the case since it's got holes in the bottom. It's actually designed to mount a fan on the bottom but since my PSU is so big I can't really pull it off. I might be able to get a 92mm fan down there...

Forgot to put up some pics. Going through them, I've only got a couple that are worthy of showing. Haven't taken any beauty shots of the finished build since the GTX590 showed up so late. I'm running a LAN on the 21st, so I'll take some then. I plan on getting three 24" monitors and arraying them in portrait mode while there, so that will have some decent picture opportunities. Also, I figured out how to get the fan/led assembly powered, so it can do that stuff now.
http://www.modreality.net/kitty_paper_packaging.jpg
First off, I'd like to thank Newegg/Tiger Direct for switching to paper padding on their shipping boxes. It was a pain in the ass the last time the cat found a box of packing peanuts.
http://www.modreality.net/mobo.jpg
Naturally took a shot of the mobo before I dropped the 2600k in. Wished I had an SLR to control the focus on the pins, but this is better than nothing. Kinda kicking myself for getting this mobo. That thermal shield is designed to only work when you drop a fan in it. Stupidly enough, a fan does not come standard. Where other parts on the motherboard idle in the mid 20s, the area by the USB 3.0 controller idles 20 degrees warmer. Gets worse when you're rendering.
http://www.modreality.net/it_POSTs.jpg
Setup to see if it POSTs. After this, I started putting it into the case. At that point, cable routing and screw thread frustration kept me from taking many pictures. Of those, the most interesting involve me taking up a stupid amount of table space for the build.

Actually, I take that back, I do have one, but it's kinda meh. At least it gives a bit of perspective on how it fits.

the power wire was too short to go around the back and it just barely fit across the video card, ill have to look and see if they make extender wires for it.
also i should have researched more, i saw the pins on the socket and thought i bent half of them lol, almost fucked up the mobo thinking of how to bend them back.

I forgot to reply to this before sorry ~
Nice!
Triple-slot 570? Is that necessary? Is it overclocked or something? 1600mhz RAM? Why not 1866 or 2133?
But yeah, that is a nice setup! 2500k's sure are awesome!
On another note, I'm thinking of ordering some sleeved extensions from this guy to get rid of gross stock PSU cables. For the worksman ship I think it's a decent deal, what about you guys?

I got that card because of how quiet it was, and it was nearly the same price as a reference gtx570 so why not? Now it's more of a hassle because it makes tons of heat in the case and roasts the cpu. No point in overclocking it really; Ive measured it drawing an additional 100 watts at the outlet with overclock and I don't notice it in games. :ugh:
Also Sandy Bridge doesn't give a crap about how fast your ram is
:eng101: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4503/sandy-bridge-memory-scaling-choosing-the-best-ddr3/8 (http://www.overclock.net/t/1159606/lutro0-customs-fully-custom-extensions-for-sale-now-offering-mdpc-sleeve)
I think we confirmed what we pretty much knew all along: Sandy Bridge's improved memory controller has all but eliminated the need for extreme memory bandwidth, at least for this architecture. It's only when you get down to DDR3-1333 that you see a minor performance penalty. The sweet spot appears to be at DDR3-1600, where you will see a minor performance increase over DDR3-1333 with only a slight increase in cost. The performance increase gained by going up to DDR3-1866 or DDR3-2133 isn't nearly as pronounced.
Cortexian
January 1st, 2012, 02:50 PM
But there's still a performance increase going to 1866 or 2133 if you're going to OC past 4.4GHz

every "gaming keyboard" I've bought was a piece of shit that had terrible ergonomics and/or lacked media keys and/or some keys stopped working.
I'm not going to dish out 100-200 bucks on something "decent" when I can find reliable, sturdy Natural Keyboard Pros with perfectly functioning media keys in the bargain bin at our locally owned computer shop for less than ten bucks.
to be perfectly honest I'd much rather have a mechanical keyboard than anything else, but those are expensive as fuck.

something like this would be cool, this is a razr "mechanical gaming keyboard" but even with the macro keys you have to reach all the way over the tab, caps lock, shift area to hit them. kind of out of the way.
also runs for 80-90 bucks.

Amit

It's easier to use Left Ctrl as crouch because you can use your pinky finger to do it quickly. Since Left Shift is sprint and you never use sprint at the same time as crouching, there's no worries that your pinky will be in use at the time that crouch is needed. "V" is such a weird key to use. Then again, it's the same distance from the ESDF keys as the "C" key for people who use "C" for crouch so it sort of makes sense.

backlit keys on this keyboard are a gimmic, with the keys being hard to see because the lights aren't nearly bright enough and there isn't enough flood light AROUND the keys which believe it or not makes a HUGE difference.

I sort of agree. My G110's LED lighting is pretty dim, but that's only when you have the lights directly over it. Even with my lamp directly over it, I can see the Red and Blue no problem. The purple is a bit harder to see in light, but you can still see it. What you have to understand is that this keyboard's LEDs were meant to be used in the dark, otherwise the publicity on this thing would have been much worse.
The red lighting is what I use most of the time. In daylight and darkness it is clearly visible. In the dark, though, blue is definitely the brightest. It lights up the area around the keyboard really well, but not as much as something like the Saitek V.5. I don't like light pollution coming off my keyboarding and bathing the area in light. The Red is just as visible in the dark, but its better for lateee night gaming because the red glow is more soothing on the eyes. The shades between the Red and Blue are easy to see in the dark, but the Violet colour is as bright as you're going to get between the two.
Unless you are going to use the macro keys, go with the Cyborg V.5.
Both my Saitek keyboards had much dimmer backlighting than the G110. My G110 on red is the brightest backlit keyboard I've been able to find.
You haven't looked very hard. The Cyborg V.7 from Saitek lights up like a Christmas tree and the G510 is quite similar. Both of those keyboards have separate LEDs under each key along with multiple brightness levels so you can customize the fuck out of it.

i had a saitek eclipse II for about 4 years, and it was incredibly easier to see then the G110.
the G110 also feels worse to type on... it feels like a keyboard that tried to do too much and ended up doing nothing spectacularly.
my keyboard gets light bouncing off the screen, creating a sheen over the keys, and washing out the actual backlit colours, something that NEVER happened with my old keyboard because it was just so much dam brighter it didnt matter.
so please tell me what saitek keyboards you've been using.

owait, so you bought the G110 already? Uh oh.
I had an Eclispe II. Actually, I still do, but not in my house any more. It was definitely brighter than this G110, but I don't really care how bright the lighting is as long as I can see it comfortably. And YES! The goddamn sheen is an annoyance when you can't see the keys. The keys are also way smaller than any other desktop keyboard I've used. That tripped me up for a week. You get used to it all, though.

I had an Eclipse I for YEARS, tried the II but it was even dimmer than the I so I returned it. The G510 is the same brightness as the G110, just has more colors, at least my friends does.
Honestly never looked at the Cyborg keyboards though, don't like the style.
I lied about my G110 being the brightest keyboard I've seen, that right goes to Alienware laptop keyboards. Three individual Red, Green, and Blue LED's under every key. There actually looks like a fourth one but I'm not sure what color it is, white?, yellow?, not sure. Looks like four individual LED sources under the keys.

I had a Saitek Eclipse I. One of the original ones, not the re-branded Cyborg one, back when there was the option to get silver keys on black deck or black keys on silver deck with blue as the only lighting option for both (I got the former). Fantastic keyboard, built like a tank, brightness was great in the dark. The keys were hard to see in the day without turning off the backlight, though. Blue + silver = bad contrast. The space bar got a little wobbly after awhile, but it still functions just fine. However, I wanted to graduate away from tacky blue LEDs to something more...subtle. So, I bought a Logitech Slim Illuminated for $80 (along with the rest of my shiny new computer). I thought I was going to be able to use that $35 rebate, but it expired before I got my keyboard in and they wouldn't let me use it. Bastards. I was pretty pissed. Even worse, it went on sale at Best Buy for $50 the following week.
Then a month later, my computer exploded.
The Logitech Slim is a pretty solid keyboard. It's sturdy, heavier than it looks, looks fantastic, and feels nice. I make more typos than with the Eclipse, though, and I think that's because it has only slightly more travel than your average laptop keyboard. The back-lighting is strong and I can see everything perfectly in any lighting. My biggest gripe has to be the same one you see in all of the other online reviews: the function keys have the back-lighting on the icons and not on the number (i.e. the "Eject" icon is lit, but not the "F8"). I don't have the icons memorized, and I don't have the function row's layout memorized, so it's a hassle when I need to use them and it happens just frequently enough to be irritating.
Oh, and whatever you do, don't ever pull the space bar out for cleaning. It will never feel right ever again if you do that.

Nice!
I think you were messaging me earlier about GPU's? You don't need three Nvidia GPU's to run three monitors for gaming, only two GPU's (each GPU is limited to two display outputs). When it comes to triple-screen gaming performance Nvidia and AMD are pretty much tied now, obviously most Nvidia setups are faster than a single AMD card powering three screens since you get the bonus of SLI. I'll break it down this way:
AMD Pros:
• Can run more than 3 monitors in the future (5/6/9).
• Hydra Vision or whatever it's called automatically lets you segregate the screens so programs maximize to the screen they're on instead of across the entire screen.
• Can run three screens off one card.
• Probably cheaper.
AMD Cons:
• Using one card won't get you very good performace.
• Less driver updates.
Nvidia Pros:
• Better triple-screen performance.
• Lots of driver updates for increased Nvidia Surround performance/compatibility.
Nvidia Cons:
• Requires something like Matrox PowerDesk to segregate monitors for efficient workflow.
• More expensive (requires two identical cards).
I'm sure there's more but those are my main issues.
