Doesn't matter what testing tool you use, but if guys have a better speed tester go ahead and post it.

Comcast bullshit. My upload was close to 500k with Adelphia, not to mention the download was stable. I've been on this Comcast line for like 3 months now or so, and I still don't know what it's capable of.

The local DSL turned to shit recently so we switched over to cable. Our neighbors must be up fappin' reeeaaalll late, because it would randomly slow down all the time. So we got the fastest we could get in the area, which is this.

Man, I am jealous as HELL. I mean, I do a speed test to a server that's in the same town as I am, and I get 350kb/s download and a little over 90kb/s upload. Damn it, I should be able to get better internet than this! Of course, there are only two other forms of internet I can get here... the local Cable provider, and Telus Dialup (just to clarify, our cable is so bad that Telus Dialup is faster and more reliable).
Better yet, when I move south for my post-secondary education in September, the internet I'll have has a max download of 35kb/s and a max upload of 10kb/s. BEAT THAT!

Ouch, how are your speeds so slow? Look at my score, and I'm using a wireless B connection placed about 20m away and one floor above my router. Imagine my speed using a direct Cat 6 cable, which is what I use for plugging in laptops if I must download a large file very quickly.
EDIT: Sry, misread the units.
The below image should say 595 kB/s download and 53.5 kB/s upload:

HOLY SHIT, that's incredible! Alby, how much do you pay? Is it a premium service from comcast? Those speeds are faster than the top business ones here in Toronto! It is probably just Comcast's speed boosting. Some areas get the said boost because of competition from FIOS and the like, from what i've read. It only stays at those awesome speeds for a short time though. He may have a higher tier that comcast doesn't offer here though, so I could be wrong about his case. :p
Also, I wish I had something other than Comcast here. :(

For $135/month I can get 100Mbps Down and 5Mbps up with no bandwidth cap. This plan is being upgraded to 250Mbps Down and 15Mbps up in the Fall sometime at no cost to the customers. So yeah, move somewhere better in Canada.
http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/3117/shawplans.jpg
This is from Shaw if you're curious, best Western Canada ISP. They mostly operate in BC, Alberta, and a bit in Saskatchewan. We have Broadband 50 right now, we may upgrade to Unlimited 100 (and then Unlimited 250 when they automatically make it available in the Fall). I think the top-end Unlimited plans are actually better bang for your buck than the other plans since they don't have caps. I can easily hit my 400GB/month cap by running a web server, game servers, TeamSpeak 3 server, and then general usage...

All residential Internet packages in Canada offered by the big telecoms here are extremely asymmetrical that way. Has nothing to do with throttling, I just only get 250/15 Mbps in the package.
Our telecoms are even worse than what you've got in the USA tbqh. It's $120/month for this (and just the Internet, no TV or phone included).
I'm thinking of also buying a 50/10 Mbps plan from their competitors and just load balancing the connections.
Warsaw
February 19th, 2014, 12:21 AM
I meant that most content providers will cap out before you hit 250 Mbps download, that's all. I know Steam caps out around 20 MB/s.
As for asymmetry, same here. We just don't get shafted quite so hard. Upload is usually set to half of your download. If I had the 300 Mbps package, the upload speed would be 150 Mbps.

So my internet has been slow and shit lately. I bought a new wireless router and adapter (since I'm too far away to use ethernet and our house doesn't have it in the walls) in hopes that old hardware was the issue. No change. A local company (http://wickedfiber.com/) rolled out fiber in Lawrence. I heard the 100Mb symmetric package (with no bandwidth caps (no mention of throttling though)) is fantastic for $70, seeing how we're paying that much for 18Mb down and 1Mb up (and not actually receiving it). Definitely going to see if I can't replace WOW! with them soon.
Edit:
Welp, it looks like it's still rolling out and my area won't see it until after 2017. That's assuming they don't lose funding and have to abandon the expasion. :I
