I am skeptical as to why the .50 cal round did not do more damage to his head phones. It really should have. If it's the real shit, then he's pretty damn lucky.

Who knows; it may have ricocheted off of a couple rocks or something. :confused2:

It was already subsonic on the ricochet, you can tell by the sound. A whine means it's subsonic; a loud crack means it's supersonic.

I am not knowledgeable, D:
Thanks for the correction. Also, what dumbass aims at a rock or boulder? Even in the general area? It didn't look like he was hunting, nor did it seem that a deer out in the desert was like, "oh hai, a rock, lulz. Try to shoot me now, bitch!"

He probably couldn't see it. Could've been a huge slab of rock under the dirt.

WOW. The sound was scarrier than the richochet to me. Only thing I've had come close to doing that was part of a copper jacket comming back and hitting me in the neck at the firing range. Didn't cut me, but it hurt like hell. I was expecting blood to be pouring out it hurt that bad.

I didn't know .50 caliber bullets could ricochet like that. Worse thing that ever happened to me while firing a gun was when a positioned my shotgun wrong and almost pinched a nerve.........I knew it wasn't pinched cause it hurt like hell......

It's the real shit. I dont know what you expect a .50 cal round that's ricocheted at least twice to do to a plastic headset, but that was what happened.

All bullets DO lose some kinetic energy when they ricochet, after all.
rossmum

Sharper the ricochet, the more energy it loses. A direct bounce like that would knock quite a lot of it off.

I'm more surprised that something as strong as a .50 cal didn't just flatten against the rock or shatter it. Guess you learn something new everyday, though.
rossmum
July 13th, 2007, 12:54 AM
Probably depends on what kind of rock it was, where exactly it hit, and what angle the surface was at.
