View Full Version : How exactly does rep work?

Yah well, this probably doesn't deserve a thread, but it wasn't in the rules. So how exactly does it work? How many reps equals another green bar, and whats this "reputation" power business? Do my reps do anything for a person with high rep? (atty, ross, snaf...) Can people with a red rep bar give any rep at all? What about -rep from people with a lot of rep, does it take away more? You get the point...

Also, how come moderator's names look the same as other members?

I don't see why you would care.

Rep don't mean beans.

+rep for Neuro!

And basically, rep is a way to tell whether a person is trustworthy for things.
Like if they have horrible rep, and they say that cows can fly, it doesn't necessarily mean they can...

It's quite simple - you rep me, and I increase the intensity of your sexual pleasures.
100 reps to a green bar. The higher a person's rep, the more of an effect they have when giving/taking, and vice versa. More rep means you're a good person in the community or have very good ocnnections.

100 rep for a bar, as you get higher up it gets to be 200 rep for a bar. The amount you give out depends on how much rep you've recieved, the amount of posts you've made (in thousands) and the amount of years you've been part of the community. People with red rep can't give anything out. Reputation power is how much points you give out when you dish some out (+ or -).

That's like telling a homeless paraplegic to jump over a wall to get food and shelter.

For every dark green bar it's 100 rep points, for every light green it's 200, you give 1 point for every bar, 1 point for every thousand posts, and 1 point for every year you've been here.

You get rep for making good posts and you lose rep for making bad posts.

Or you just post in the special forum where they have a big rep ring. It's a conspiracy! :iiam:

...However, some get +rep at random, just for posting.

That meens I took away Flameing Rain's power to rep today. When I -rep'ed him his bar changed from a gray bar to a red one instantly. Hehe, I feel evil.

Edit: From this thread I got one one rep from a person with one bar, and one -rep from a person with 4 bars. Is that equal to 3 -reps from a one bar person?

It's equivalent to you getting owned.

***sigh*** can everybody stop -reping me and saying "like this"?

Rep don't mean beans.
I should of explained myself more. What I meant to say was it doesn't indicate how skilled you are. Although snaf's a good modeler and has alot of rep, atty does too. As far as I know atty doesn't do anything...

Exactly, but nothing that would help out a new person who want to learn how to mod. His post do win though. :D

People give out rep for different reasons, Some people give +rep when the person they are repping shows work that they have done. Some people +rep because they find a certan post funny or really informative. Others give +rep when people help them. Members will give out -rep when another member is being rude or insulting him/her or another member.

By teaching them how to make good posts rather than the dogshit I had to wade through last time I visited a new member's first thread :smith:

Grey means it's too low to have any effect.

Ah, another thing to think about is someone's ratio of rep bars to posts. Considering I have over 2000 posts and only 3 bars, people obviously don't like me that much here.

Very informative guys. The only thing that surprises me in this thread is the fact that Masterz posted, and more spam hasnt ensued yet(no offense Masterz, kidding but serious). That dude is a spam magnet. Should be automatic -rep for crappy spam posts.

I don't get rep of any sort often. When I do get rep it is for something I totally wasn't expecting, good or bad. And whenever it is bad, it is usually unfounded with any sort of factual basis and tends to be based purely on an uneducated opinion. It annoys me, really.

What if you have red bars? Would you then have a negative penis? :confused2:

He just said "the number of bars". I take it that it doesn't matter what color it is, as long as it's doing its job.
