I have no idea what makes the wall appear like this. It has no smoothing and when i turn it on it does nothing. The points are on the exact same spot on the axis so it should be completely flat. I have several things like this in my level and it has me stumped. Plz help.

This could be caused if you ran lightmaps low it can sometimes also cause black triangles to appear try running lightmaps a bit higher. Does it look flat in 3ds max?

The lightmaps were set on high in the pic and ive had things like this happen when working on halo 1 maps. The triangles show up flat in 3ds.

In 3ds max make a render of the face, it should show if the triangle doesn't look nice it may look like it does in game, If it does then put a smoothing group on it and do another render that may fix the problem

You didn't use a polygon to model that.

Correctly, you would use four points:

Incorrectly, you would use three:

. .

Many lighting errors are caused by creating triangles and grouping them together in a way that both 3ds max and h2 display them crappily.

Polygonal modeling can achieve a much nicer, smoother, surface.

Ok it shows up with no problems in 3ds and those jacked up triangles are both polys right next to each other.

Do a render in 3ds max from different angles, you can do spotlights too.

Uhm, ahh okay.

From the picture it looks like two triangles... Not a surface that was made to be two triangles together.

Check if there are any errors that are shown by sapien. As in it tells you the error and highlights it in a colour.

Actually, make sure your verts are welded, and apply a single smoothing group to that entire wall.

all verts are welded correctly and no i have no errors in my map

It looks like it is UVW'd improperly or is a non planar face. If it is the latter, all you have to do is move the verts to be on the same coordinate (in either x y or z), think of it like a flat plane.

I know that, all of the points are on the same x axis and it still shows up as triangles.

Then it must be UVW'd improperly or you ran a lesser quality of lightmaps.

I just ran it on super setting and it still had the edges

I only wish I were that cool. Actually, my boyfriend Lightning was posting under my username yesterday (he was too lazy to logout).

I also wish people would stop saying that. The gender barrier is slowly melting, but you don't have to suck up to every last girl that likes "guy stuff" along the way. <_<
