That's right, an obligatory three-week visit to relatives in Singapore, than Shanghai. Singapore Airlines ftw - their economy class owns.

I can't fly on Business class this time :( because we don't have enough air miles for that.

Online gaming will be out of the question. This laptop has good specs (2.13Ghz Pentium M 770, 1 GB DDR2, 256MB Geforce Go 6600) but my Internet access will be limited to a 54mbps integrated wireless card. And 54mbps just ain't enough. Plus, I'll spend more time outside than inside so access to this forum is rather limited.

By the way, go to the Singapore Airlines website and prepare to start cursing at Western airlines for not offering that plethora of entertainment options.

I'm on economy class. I have a 10.6" 1280x768 monitor in the back of the seat in front of me. I have a wired handset that has the TV/music controls on one side, while the other side has game controls plus a "keyboard" that's more like a QWERTY keypad. There are over 100 movies and a total of 91 video games. Music is the equivalent of 225 CDs. There's a built-in power plug in every seat, compatible with three kinds of prongs, so I can still use my Nintendo DS and Palm Treo. Noise cancelling headphones are already provided for me. There are two USB ports built into the monitor so I can plug in a USB keyboard and mouse or use the game controller (D-pad becomes mouse) to play with their office software.

This is what my plane seat looks like:

By the way, I get to eat out every day in Singapore, something I don't do often up in Canada or when I lived in California. Still, the best part of going to Singapore is always the flight on Singapore Airlines. There's so much to do, you don't even need to take out your laptop or portable game system to have fun. Anyway the food table on the plane doesn't have enough space for both a laptop and an optical mouse.

Ave, all. Cheers!

Bye, friend.

eh, round trip on economy class from singapore to vancouver costs $1600 canadian for adults. Not too bad considering the mass of in-flight entertainment.

$1600 isn't that much. on continental, round trip from ny/nj to hong kong was about $1267 a couple months back.

While yours does have nice features and SA is known for its service, other airlines are getting close.

Continental 777s has 295 movies (from the very old to some more recent ones), and hundreds(?) of TV shows. Lots and lots and lots of music to make your own playlist out of, as well as about 10 games (boo hoo). There's also a wired handset with the same configurations - controls on one side, keyboard on the other. Economy seats have 2 outlets per 3 seats.

And continental has big windows. :awesome:

Hmm, I guess Singapore Airlines is facing competitions...though I doubt anyone can beat the screens. In Raffles Class (first class) you get a 23" HDTV (only one thing out of many other amenities like a real bed and stuff). Still, this Continental is impressive, albeit the fact that there are only ten games...WTF? If I flew on Continental, though, at least I have a plug to charge my DS or laptop.

Word is that SIA representatives are trying to get Internet safely on airplanes. If they succeed, Ross can post, from ANYWHERE. Right now communication between the plane and the ground is limited to that in-flight phone no one uses and SMS messaging. The phone and keyboard can be used to communicate seat-to-seat for free though.

2.5 hours left! (I live in Pacific time zone) Flights on SIA are the only times when I go out without needing to turn on my DS, lol. With 91 games (Nintendo classics plus chess, cards, etc) I can keep that DS in my bag.

23"? christ. But yeah, maybe 10 games. Battleship is nice though? Still, the movies and shows will be more than enough.

I just got back from Hong Kong, and on both flights I didn't sleep a wink. Too much to do. 295 movies is nothing to scoff at...they have from Dr. Strangelove to Spiderman 2, from Unforgiven to the Bourne Supremacy, from Ferris Bueller's Day Off to Spinal Tap. Casablanca, Count of Monte Cristo, Fight Club, the Green Mile, Last Samurai, Minority Report, Harry Potter 1-4, etc.
And I watched 3 episodes of 24 and 4 episodes of Band of Brothers. And there's still so much more to see :o

While I was on China Airlines recently, I discovered their A330s had an ethernet port beneath every armrest. Peculiar.
First thought? MID-FLIGHT LAN PARTY YEAH
Second thought: Wireless signal?....Satellite internet? why the hell is that there?

We'll see. Sooner or later you'll be able to do everything on a plane.
