I have a crappy Dell Dimension 1100. My parents are trying to save , I mean, uhh...money. I can only get PCs under 800 dollars.
I wonder if these are any good.

Gate ways suck, HP are good computers, Dell's are fun, if one of your parents can buy it thrugh their work, some times you can get a $1200+ computer for about $800, that's how I got mine.

The first PC seems to be the best and you would be crazy to buy that X1650PRO over that 7900GS for the same price.

Newegg and NCIX are the best, like I told you over a PM. As usual, all your links are poor choices.
NEVER buy a pre-built desktop PC from a physical retail store. They're overpriced, filled with bloatware, and your warranty comes from some major brand with terrible tech support.
Dell, HP and Compaq are MUST-AVOID. You don't want to deal with their major technical issues (i.e. crashing, PC refuses to boot, etc).
If you don't want to build or get NCIX to build one, go to www.ibuypower.com or www.cyberpower.com - you can actually CUSTOMIZE the parts that go into the computer. Saves a lot of money, although you can save more by building...

I've had no problems with my Compaq since I've installed my 8600gt. The thing crashed all the time when I was just using the 6150se.

ya, you're better off buying a computer right from the maker. all you have to worry about is the junk ware on it.
Dell, HP and Compaq are MUST-AVOID. You don't want to deal with their major technical issues (i.e. crashing, PC refuses to boot, etc).
here let me fix that for you.
Gateway and Compaq are MUST-AVOID. You don't want to deal with their major technical issues (i.e. crashing, PC refuses to boot, etc).
Dells don't have crashing issues, that is user error on dells, just don't by the computers that are newer on the market. if you can, buy one that has been out for some time and then upgrade it if needed. HPs are good for milti media, and have some issues. and if you do have any issues with a Dell computer, you call them, tell them what's going on and they'll help you fix it, or they'll send you a new computer, and you can send in the old on. the only problem I've had with dell is the shiping and not getting it when I was told because it went to the wrong house. >.> which was FedX's falt. and if you buy a computer right from dell you can customize it a little bit, and you can get a better computer then what you would if you got it from a retail store.
but BuckShot dose have a point, you'd be better off building your own computer, 2 of my friends did, and one of them looks like an Alien ware computer.

Compaq = HP
Or have been living under a rock for the past 5 years?
Dell has a bad image because noobs buy Dells. Out of five or six motherboards lying around my workplace (the company's shit pile), only one worked, and it was from a Dell. Slapped on a RaidMax Aurora PSU, 2gb DDR400, and an old GeForce FX 5200 and 40gb AOpen HDD. Thing works great. Just slapped a DVD drive and CD-RW burner in it.

Dell gets a bad name because people who don't want to spend a lot of money usually get Dell. And you get what you pay for. If you're not paying a lot, they're not going to put great parts in your machine.

The man speaks truth. It can probably be better than if you just bought one for the same amount.

NCIX is the most popular source in Canada, since the shipping is not international. The prices are good (remember, the numbers look higher but it's Canadian) so you can buy individual parts to build a computer.
NCIX also allows you to pay an extra $25 to assemble the computer from the parts you select and test it for you - not bad at all, especially if you don't dare to build the parts yourself.

Wait a couple more days for Intel to drop the prices on their CPUs, then go ahead and build it. I'll work on a good possible setup tomorrow if you want.

That's about as good as you're going to get for the price. If you could save up a few hundred more, you could get much, much, better.
