Well, as a few of you know im currently working on a SPAS; I added new detail, Here are some new images of what i have so far.

Well. I deleted a few hings and added a few things to the inside of the weapon. Renders Will be on soon. Enjoy the first wonderful pictures. ;p

The First barrel is where the shots come out. The bottom is the flash-light. =)

Umm... 3ds, maya 8.0, not sure about gmax, Blender 3d. (Blender isn't the best go wtih 3ds max 8)

Those are the only ones I've worked with, I did use Blender 3d; For about 3 weeks or so, and then I found 3ds max. So i'd say go with the 3ds max trial.

it looks pretty good but for what ever reason there is something about it that doesn't seem quite right. no idea what, it might too smooth in some areas. when i figure it out i'll let ya know.

Aye, capin'. lol. I fixed the smoothing errors. The Pictures are of the flash-light which i'm having a hard time making it dynamic for halo. I hope you guys like it. I'll keep you posted on how its coming along; in the mean while tell me what you think of it. =D

your correct. 3 years. I'm still loving it. I'm getting way better at the gun modelling and vehicle. a little at the bsp.

You would probably be better off modeling another from scratch, cutting down that many faces would take forever

Not really considering i got it to work. ;p. It's fine it exported fine just its not animated which i am gonna do. I'm fixing a few problems with the flash-light. its being a whore! keeps flickering whe its psawns. it like flickers every 2 seconds. So i fixed that issue, I maay release the tags when im done in this thread..no wait has to be done in the releae forum anyway.
The Flash light it fixed up. Tell me what i can fix bout it.

It did. But now its fine. except sometimes it lags when you pick it up. :(
Anyway, what do you think of the flashlight? anything i could change on it.

Oh also, the ejection port is on the wrong side. Mirror it horizontally.Thats because Source is a very uncomplicated engine... (in the shader sense). Instead of concentrating on lighting detail, it concentrates on pushing polygons.

Does that make it bad? No, its just the design choice. But it also explains how you can get such high polycounts into Source.

Does that make it good? No, its a design choice. It explains how some newer engines look better, but ultimately have smaller triangle counts.

As an example -- UnrealEngine3 has a maximum of approximately 60,000 triangles for the characters in the scene (all characters combined, source: Epic's Unreal Technology (http://www.unrealtechnology.com/html/technology/ue30.shtml) page) This equates to approximately 4,000-12,000 for 5-15 loaded players. This is low, even for current gen. However -- its made up for by the lighting detail (normal mapping, parallax self-occlusion, etc.)

My guess for the major reasoning behind this is -- basically -- you don't need to get the CPU to vertex-shift a texture... but you do for non-static meshes.

Alrighty then, I am adding a few more smoothing numbers, and fixing the flashlight, and I will most likely get it in game and test it out. Maybe later on I may need beta testers. But not now, I'll alert you when the time comes. Here are some renders of my beautiful trigger (remade trigger ;) )

I suggest having a look at a side-on pic of one, so you can see the raised portion of the heatshield towards the rear. There's also somewhat of a lip on the back of the slide, which you'll have to model in. If I had a camera, I'd take a picture of my airsoft replica, but I don't have access to one right now. Also, your bolt is completely on the wrong side of the gun, and there's a bit of the muzzle you're missing. You're also forgetting the rear portion of the ghost ring sight. The SPAS-12 stock also has a hook mounted on the end of it, which allows the stock to be supported by an outstreched arm, enabling it to be fired by a single hand. You're also missing both safety levers, and the rear portion is slightly misshapen. You're also forgetting the forward and rear sling attachment points, and breach detail. Your bolt handle is off, and the slide goes up a little too far on the sides. SPAS-12 doesn't have room for a flashlight there. It's all magazine space. Also, shotguns don't get that kind of trigger. Additionally, the notch in your forward sight serves no purpose whatsoever, since

A. A shotgun doesn't need that kind of precision, and

B. It's too far away from the eye for it to have any positive effect whatsoever.


Remember when I told you it was missing "a few details"? I just listed them.

It's just there to add some detail. That's all why I put it there; yea it served no purpose, I just wanted to make it look good. I'm still fixing some other crap that got messed up when I deleted them. I'm creating new flashlight becuase the old one kept corrupting.

You might also extend the barrel length a bit, to compensate for the lengthened flashlight, since the SPAS-12 does have a longer barreled variant:

Sorry wrong render. Anway I got the flash-light to be dynamic again. well half-way what i wanted. I need to fix one last smooth error on the gun cuase it keeps making the gun look like crrap in game. Its really annoying me. And how do i get a custom reload becuase i really can't reload with it. D:

Oh, ok. Well, I donno where I can get it. But this is going offtopic. I have figured out what the flashlight problem is, I just can't get a reload. Everytime I try and reload in game it just doesn't reload, it tries to and then freezes and exception only when I try and reload. Anyone know what this could be or how to fix it?

Daxx, that is........amazing. I would sell it somewhere.

The only thing im woried about is trying to use that ingame. 44K polies is INSANE, especially for a weapon in a 7 year old FPS. It needs to be more like 3-4k pollies.

But ExAm got me new refs, and I decided to use them for the flashlight. because they were good on that part. those look like they were taken of his airsoft gun.Still, from the length of the mag combined with the flashlight on your model, it'd still reduce the capacity by a couple of rounds or so, for the space now used by the flashlight's electronics. Yes, they were of my airsoft gun.

Yes indeed I did, worked for a bit on it, figured out i had welded in the ABSOLUTE WRONG SPOT.. took a bit to undo ;P

I'm going to get the tags ready after I add some final touches to it :)
