I saw everyone else's awesome pics so I decided to show what I got bored and drew a second ago. I tried adding in the sword, but it sucked so I erased it. :X Also, I'm not too keen on shading, as you can see.

that's REALLY easy to UV. it's got the topology of a plane, so don't even have to get any drastic deformations. fuck, wouldnt surprise me if it could all be auto-unwrapped almost perfectly.

some wall panels i've been working on for da new map.
actually, i've really just been making all the cracks and shit.

thing is, they all need to be more or less interchangable/modular, so have to make sure all the borders align properly.
this is about an hour's worth of good work. makes me wonder what the fuck i was doing the rest of the day. :/

man, i'm still amazed at the polycounts i can work with for UT3, i'm going to have to do some major adapting for that, but i think i'll like it alot when i get the hang of working with these kind of polycounts.

also, do you want me to make highrezzes for this stuff? so you dont have to make normalmaps along with it? or are you HARDCORE and gonna make em yourself?

That one took quite a bit of planning and work tbh. The actual bitmap is only a quarter of that whole circle, I just made a quick mock up for the full look of it. It's for this big circular middle section part on me and tweeks map.

Did a render of the proper texture. As you can see there are lines where it tiles, but after working on it's tiling for about 30 minutes to make sure it tiled fine, I'm POSITIVE it's just my shitty quick unwrap.

Allthough it is pissing me off >:U You can't just do the offset thing with this. You've gotta make the sides of the texture represented by this ---------------> l _ tile.

Normally you'd unseam the opposite sides of each other:

Not too tricky, but it's a lil bit harder. Pretty much involves copy pasting the detail layers into halves and flipping them so the desired sides tile, but in doing this, the middle of the detail layers are now fucked up so you've gotta fix that up. Kinda tedious, because the only way you can test it is to constantly rotate and paste and flip the whole texture against itself on a larger canvas.

actually, everything that's triangulated is ripped.

this is the BSP from the Halo level, after the tunnel.
the top right bit where he put the round bit is where usually the area is filled with boulders, you can see the outcropping of land that you find the marines on.

it's well enough modified, but that's besides the point.
if it's used to make something original, it's totally fine imo. just pointing it out for the people who won't notice themselves.

i like this, but it can still use form extra work. for one, you'll need to get rid of the tunnel, or nobody will use the outer path. (if this is an MP map, wich i guess it is)

Some good set of eyes you have their Tweek, your right i was originally just going to convert the entire bsp so in effect just doing a sp>mp but there were alot of unused areas so modified the bsp to my liking.. i guess i should have pointed that out, although i didn't think many people would notice :awesome:

Made another foregrip for it. Meh, I dunno yet. It's kind of hard to make it go into a front sight because I made the receiver so thick. It was really meant to match up to the original foregrip I made for it. Also, there's not a lot of detail I can think of yet, especially since I put the cocking lever on the receiver and cba to move it to the top of the gas chamber. I'm still going to keep working on this foregrip though it doesn't quite meet expectations. 4544 tris, though it's a hell of a lot of cylindrical stuff.

My first ever Texture ™

Laffle, that is my first ever thing painted from scratch in photoshop ever. Good Ole October 06.

Good story behind it. Before I did that, all I knew how to do was the colour change tool, doing shitty Halo PC stuff. Masterz remembers :P

I was on the old cmt boards one day, and joked in a thread, "yeah I'd like to join the team as texture dude".

Then, Teh Lag sends me "a strange rainbow image with lines all over it" and I was like, k? Took me 4 days, pretty much learned photoshop while doing it. Both him and Masterz were also joking, thinking "rofl what a nub lets see what he gives us back".

I sent them the texture, along with a multi map.

I got signed to the team, (been working on CONSTANT SHIT FOR EVERYONE YOU ASSHATS GIVE ME A BREAK:gonk:) and a year later, here I am :D

So basically, I thank Teh Lag for giving me the chance to get my ball rolling, and I thank everyone who ever gave me good crit for pushing my envelope on what is awesome and what is complete shit. <333333

Nevertheless, the texture is sooooooooooooo crap but it makes me appreciate how far I've come in the space of a year.

No, I changed it all together, to be more like what I wanted, cause the guys don't have a clue about their own art style. Don't wanna work with a bunch of unprofessionals. Tweek was the only exception, but I can work with tweek any day of the week.

Anyway, I've come up with an idea, to show people what bitmaps should look like when creating for next gen games.

The bump:

Have different shades of white and grey, to have varying levels of height. the blacker, the deeper, the whiter, the higher. This can be kind of tricky though, see, depending on the range of whites and blacks you've used, if you used flat black, and flat white as your two totally different levels of height, you'll have much more range in height, and much deeper maps. For mine, I didn't want much variation, so I just had 2 different shades of grey, fairly close together in shade, but far apart enough to matter.

Also have a very faint copy paste of the specular, just to get a bit of minor detail in there.

If you want a normal map, you can easily use the Nvidia plugin for photoshop or any other sort of related application, and use the bump map to create it. I won't go into detail on that.


The Diffuse:

No light shading, nothing that has anything to do with lighting. All the Diffuse is, is the colour, and tone. Basically, what colours they are, where they are, in terms of detail (not totally flat and cel shaded colour, more variation) and how dark/light they are. Specular covers the shine.

The Specular:

The more white, the more that part shines, the more black, the less it shines. Spec maps should be pretty contrasted, and should contain more detail than the diffuse. A real life example of this is say, looking at a wall in your house, its a flat colour, yes? But, as you move around it in the light, some parts of the wall shine more than others, due to residue. This is what specular covers. It's not just good enough to simply copy your diffuse and greyscale it.

The Illumination:

Since it's using so much less of the space, you can lower the resolution of it considerably. Whatever is black, won't glow, so for this, I only wanted the lights to glow, so I made everything else BUT the lights, totally pitch fucking black.

The only thing I see that could be improved about that texture would be the uv placement and scale to get better average pixel density. Thats a minor thing though, it still looks pretty damn good and if you already finished the texture theres no point in redoing the uv's.

Modeled in Maya, UVed in max just because I understand how to better.

So, I suck at bump mapping, but what do you think? Only a small section has been made so far, and I notice how the uvs on the side are stretching, and I aim to fix that before the biped is finished.

[edit] Also, the lighting made part of the front of the boot look awkward, and appear as though it has non planars. There aren't any.

Just watched a quick tutorial on randomizing grass (well, was really just using the scatter tool to spread the grass lol but I didn't even know it was there) and made this. Thought it was kind of cool. Took forever to render cause my computer smells. And don't worry snaffy, I did this after doing the important modelling today. Everything except the sky made by me. I want to add more to it, and change the sky cause it sort of ruins it. Also, I'm thinking it may have potential if someone wanted to shoop it.

looks like it would be cooler with a better render. Also, I need help guys :( I'm trying to make a tree for my scene. But I don't know how to make a nice slim cut opacity map. It's an evergreen, so there are parts that are quite thin/small. How do do I select the edges perfectly other then zooming in and selecting manually around the edges for like 2 hours? I haven't actually made a real texture I was just testing out how the heck I'm going to do it, and I keep either cutting too much or too little off the edges. Using select/modify/expand\contract doesn't work because it's so thin that it just completly deselects the part or selects way too much. I'm looking for tutorials right now, but so far no luck on this part.

Why would they, a lot of maps have pointless things just for visuals, also there are many confusing things that do nothing... complicated but a game design must to 'busy' up some areas. Believe me.

moar lulz, i actually made the girder thats supposed to be hanging from the roof, in the middle, but i forgot to un-hide it, and i forgot to hise those 2 floating pieces of pipe too :D

making the ends of the tunnels has been somethign i was worrying about, but it seems to be working out nicely.

the thing im worried about now, is i need to make a connection between the balconies and the main floor. elevators? where? oh well.
ill blow up that bridge when i get to it

Helix canyon has caves. This is a cave. I could make a map with identical layout as Blood Gulch except as an urban environment, why can't tweek make a cave into a tunnel?

Jeez, some people on this forum have no sense of direction. Of course it's not going to look exactly like it.

I guess people just self project, because when most people on this forum remake something, it's just "hurr I will rip it from halo 2 and like add some fail".

2 oposing bases, in a boxed in area, with 2 areas you can walk/drive up and a cave in between, that you can fall into but not come out of except for the middle where 1 side path goes down into a cave and where the other side path goes up to a wall with a clear view of both bases.

I see something with path's to walk on on the sides, but I don't see how 1 could go up and the other down in a structure like that.

So make the window open out onto a huge cavern or chasm or something, Halo/HL2-style.
