This is for me and Tweeks egyptian surreal thing with clockwork and stuff in it.
Still making it though, and thats just a render as allways.
Unlike usual, I'm using photo sourcing to get some of the patterns and the figures to trace in photoshop, just because I can't draw them right with a mouse. Most of the runes and symbols I drew myself, it was really only the figures of Osiris, Anubis and Amun Re that I traced, and some of the scarab beetles. I didn't use the actual photosourcings in the texture, I just traced them on the bump map.
If I had a tablet, I'd draw them by hand, because by hand that shit is easy, and I would have preferred the "made by hand" unperfect look that you get by drawing things, and havign each glyph drawn on its own so they're all the same but slightly different. But yeah. Cry more. The rest is all me.
I need to get me a fucking tablet. Would have done it in half the time. The cracks are taking lolages.
Anyway, It doesn't have any colour like this (http://www.webmousepublications.com/denile/den-artifacts/osiris-isis-nepths.jpg) stuff because tweek doesn't want colour and only a flat sandstone look. I will however make a coloured version of it once I finish this one. It will look much prettier.

That render only uses photoshops lighting effects and the bump map as the alpha.

Llama is right. Unwrapping in maya is SO much fucking easier, and the fact that selecting faces in the uv window lets you modify those faces directly on the geometry, allows you to much more easily select chunks of faces. Just drag them in the uv window.
Tweek, the reason you get fucked up models is that the only real way to export from maya to max at the moment is .obj. Hopefully the next version of maya will export better. Thats the only reason I use max right now. Just so I can export to other programs better. I actually find maya to be a much better program.

No, you fagtards don't use it therefore don't judge. I, and Con use both, now those are opinions to trust.
Maya is just better. Never had 1 hitch in Maya. Plus it has a faster workflow and better material editing (hypershadeftmfw) and WAY better unwrapping. The modeling is about the same, but Mayas tools and curve and line options make it better for organics. If I could export to the HEK with Maya, Max would become obsolete for me.

Yarp. Max's whole modifiers thing slows down the pace of things ALOT. Plus it is a constant chunk out of the UI.
Plus, the way that you can transform the UI in Maya by selecting a different mode (polygons, animation, rendering) is just awesome because it means more room for you to work in and doesn't clog up the screen with shit your not using.
And I still stand by this statement. Can you select faces/edges/verts in Max's uv editor and then being able to directly modify them with them still being selected?
No. Maya lets you multi task. If you know Maya well enough, and have a big enough screen, you can model, unwrap and tweak shaders at the exact same time.
Why do you think Unreal Ed, the editor for the most licenced game engine, Unreal Engine 3, is based alot, on Maya?
Because it owns.

Someone get some tutorials out on how to use this god forsaken "Maya" and I will try it out and be the real judge. Also, That texture is so awesome, in so many ways... forget I ever critiqued your work.

Llama, I was merely stating fact. I'm not going to lie and say Maya is a complete piece of shit and max is better ar unwrapping and no you shouldn't consider geting it. When people need information about something, I deliver. Sure it might seem a little angsty towards max, but fact is, all the max users bitch about Maya saying its not as good, and all the people who have tried both say Maya is better. That pisses me off.
It's not like I go out of my way or anything to stab max. Whenever the topic arises, I put my 2 cents in. If the facts hurt people, well boo hoo. My opinion still stands, and until they, with an open mind, try Maya for themselves, I'm not dropping the arguement.
However, in THIS case, I'm done with it. My opinion is one is better than the other in MY area of doing things. Rendering, unwrapping and materials. Other opinions are that Max is better for what THEY require.

The problem is, the Maya users hardly ever bring it up. It's usually someone who sees something in Maya or is just talking and decides to throw in a "MAX>>>>>MAYA FO SHO LOL." Tbh, I've never heard anyone who uses Maya really start it. What I'm saying is, as of as not, max users start the little battle.

Try creating some stuff that requires a little more thought process. Those are so simple I can't even think what you would learn from them other then basic tools. Well, now that you've done that, work on learning technique with some more advanced stuff. I'd recommend something like a gun model, yes everyone does them and there's tons of them, but it's something better to learn off of. If you really want to jump right in try doing a character or vehicle.

Nope :D I don't have any anymore and I couldn't find any good reference shots from the top (like I said in my post) The rest of it is actually correct though.
Here's a render Hizlo made of that same model, he beveled the top of it up a little bit though.
http://www.llamajuice.com/school/fs/N642.jpg
I modeled what I did because it was for a school project. The complexity of the model wasn't really an issue, I just wanted to model some stuff that would look alright and meet the requirements.
@ Leiuk it was for a 3D foundations class. The point of the class is to learn the basics.
I modeled a low poly character for the class aswell (500 quads was the limit)...
That's in my animation that I had to do for the class...

My grand farther has the best pic i've ever seen.
he took it at a place in new Zealand over a very still pond looking up and through a valley.
because of how still the water was it is nearly impossible to determine which side of the picture is up and which is down.
not to mention weird effects that we cannot explain.
looking up through the valley you barely can see some snow capped mountains miles in the distance, where as when you look through the valley on the reflection of the water the Mountains are crystal clear.
How can you see further on a reflection then with your own eyes.
and there are some other aspects of the picture that appear only on one side.
very strange indeed. i only noticed the photo graph about 6 months ago.

too many black lines, especially on the shoulder pad. they aren't hard edges, and the colour doesn't change, so perhaps a different colour?
also, I don't like the elbow joint either, the grooves need work or re-colouring or something.
oh, and the AR looks wrong. (and the knee caps look weird, and the groin plate is grey, and the helmet looks too pointy, and the wrist positioning looks rather uncomfortable, and I'm sure the back of his helmet doesn't cave in like that..)
all in all, it's just nowhere near as good as your strider :/

Maybe because the chief was made about 2-3 years ago and the strider last week :-3 Still, it's taken note of though.

also, I'd just like to say I cannot draw the chief for shit.
now onto my reason to bump this thread, my latest creations in gmod! (cos I know you were all dieing to see them :p)
my first experiment with the new portal props; A simple marble drop basketball thingo.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l183/n00b1n8R/gm_construct0061.jpg
then, yesterday I saw a cool connect for a building made out of only a handful of props (from portal) at garrysmod.org, and decided to totally steal the concept, and then turn them into modular peices for a space station.
all the peices:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l183/n00b1n8R/gm_construct0062.jpg
first space station (very WIP layout, it was just for checking they all worked well enough together):
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l183/n00b1n8R/gm_construct0065.jpg
and a few internal shots of the station:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l183/n00b1n8R/gm_construct0066.jpg
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l183/n00b1n8R/gm_construct0069.jpg
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l183/n00b1n8R/gm_construct0068.jpg
it's got a long ways to go yet, but it's very conservative on the prop limit so it's all good :D
oh, and after counting the whole station is only 47 props (out of a limit of 60 IIRC on the spacebuild server I play on :awesome:)
