View Full Version : Kicked for "high average ping"

So, I've been kicked from every BF2 server I can find, because of my "high average ping" of around 170. I have your average DSL connection at my dad's. Stable, reasonably fast. 1200 down and 400 up.

More strangely, at my mom's house I get 2000 down and 1900 up on average, but my ping still hovers around 200, consistently.

So, why the hell am I getting pings that are around 200 nearly all the time? Anyone got any ideas?

Do you have a very good pc? Cause I know I get the exact same thing, internet connection is supposed to be rather good, but I get a high average ping too. Only thing I can think of is my computer can barely handle the game.

Probably your router. That was a big problem for me 2 years ago, but I got a new one, and all was well.

Speed doesn't mean anything if the route it travels is too long

I always get kicked by punkbuster except there's nothing fishy going on.

Mine handles it at full quality with a decent resolution and great framerate :/

I wonder if it has something to do with networking ports, hmm? :iiam:

I find it even more sad that you get kicked for 170 ping. What's so bad about 100+ ping, huh!? Huh?!

I guess it lags the server.

500 down and 99 up, but I'm downloading a hi-res video :P

I'll get a real one later.

EDIT: 1300 down and 200 up.

Shouldn't matter too much, I've been downloading a few hundred megs of stuff and doing speedtest at the same time and it hasn't drastically effected the score.

Also, were most interested in the ping it gives you then your speed. Although 500 down isn't very good.

Your upload is something to worry about. waaay too low. Once I reformatted (not suggesting you do that) my upload went up from 300 to 2000. then it went down.

That's standard upload speed for my ISP

AT&T DSL. My dad can't afford to change to anything better.

I'll try to help... I have DSL...

- Have you tried to do tracert to diferents IP ? Just to see if that's not something related to your ISP

- Are you playing on servers that are on your continent ?

But in my opinion, it's most likely your ISP who's overloaded ;__;

Is this something that should be having troubles with bf2 online or no? I don't even know if this is good or not, lol.

That's almost 3 megs down, but it's only 410 up, which isn't good. I have 2 megs up and down at my mom's house. You'd think that'd be awesome, but it's just about as fast as this house's DSL, when it comes to surfing and gaming. The numbers are good, but the performance is not.

How old is your modem? Modems are only supposed to last about 3 years then you need to replace them cause your ISP updates the firmware inside them to make them faster, safer, etc. And sooner or later you run out of memory for the update and you can't update it (something along that line, been a while since I studied modems.)

A couple of years, but it's a fairly recent model.
