Whenever I try to join a server in BF2 it says "You have failed to connect. Please check your network connections and try again." how do I fix this?

Check that, EA support actually comes in handy. :)

Battle Field games HATE vista, a few weeks ago i bought Battle Field 2142
My system specs blew away the requirements, but its still VERY laggy for some reason

Killa, I recommend playing on medium although your graphics are surpassing the requirements. It doesn't just matter how good your specs are but also the connection to the server. Go to a server with lower ping, then you shouldn't lag. Also you can just play on medium, the game still looks good.

i even tried it on the lowest one and it still does that, i can run halo 2 from medium-high settings
EDIT: even if i play SP it still lags, if anything i think it might be ramlag but im not sure
And it even works on my old computer that has xp, better then this

I have no clue then, then again 2142 is just weird. It's always been laggy for me but I play it. It's a lot different than BF2 because to me its horrible when I try to reload, I have to click it twice after the reload animation plays and jigs around. I dislike 2142 a lot, even on any type of quality. :[

Vista will do that. Try turning off some of Vista's visual effects, so they don't hog your power.
