Well before i got my Dell laptop, i had a dell desktop. It was okay for the time being, but then , 2 years Later i got my laptop and it has way better specs then it; currently.
Im thinking of taking a trade from my dad, they get my laptop, i get the older pc , which was once mine.
Right now its specs are:
Processor: 3.0 Ghz Intel Pentium 4, Hyper Threading
System RAM: 512 MB
Video Card: some intel intergrated video card
OS: Windows XP SP 2
UPGRADES I WILL MAKE
Processor: 3.0 Ghz Intel Pentium 4, Hyper Threading
System RAM: 1 Gig ( ill upgrade to 2 when i get the $)
Video Card: the ATI Radeon X1650 PRO
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate

Sound good?, any suggestions or reccomendations?

Yeah it'll make a good web surfing/emailing rig.
Hahahha. But seriously, why would you want to downgrade?

Bwuh?
How would adding 512 MB of memory and upgrading a video card be a downgrade?

What are the specs of his laptop. I highly doubt his laptop can beat an X1650PRO.

The processor was probably better than what the desktop PC has, though.

Um... Vista Ultimate uses LOADS of system memory. Get Home Premium or something until you get at least 2gb RAM.

AGP or PCIe? The best AGP's got are the 7950GT 512mb and the x1950XT 256mb, at least at newegg, and both are ~$260. For the same price is the 8800GTS 320mb on PCIe, which is a totaly different card.

Don't order from bestbuy, don't get that card. You can get an eVGA GeForce 8800GTS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082) for the same price and for $259.99 with mail-in rebate.

My parents are complete morons, there afraid to give there credit card number to anyone, so i have to buy whatever at a website THEY know. I already tried talking them into newegg, didnt work.

Come on, you will likely regret you bought it from there. Best Buy downright sucks for buying stuff online. Newegg is the safest place you would probably use your credit card at.

If i get it from best buy, or circuit city, etc, my dad will pick it up on the way home from work sometime

Screw that man, beg them to use Newegg, they have good and fast shipping. Newegg is excellent and it's shipped straight to your door, no need to go out of your way just to pick it up.

Tell her that my mom used her credit card on newegg and she got everything done correctly. Plus fast shipping. Newegg is where I ordered my X1650.
The 8800 is a beast. BEG her, FUCKING BEG HER to get from newegg.

You do not want 1 gig for Ultimate. It just doesn't cut it.

What the hell are you guys talking about? I have Vista Ultimate and everything runs so fast. Are you guys talking about DDR1 RAM? Maybe it runs fast cause I got DDR2 RAM.

No, I'm pretty sure my rams way faster than yours (DDR2 1200 ;d)
Amit
August 1st, 2007, 05:37 PM
Nice, but i still don't understand how 2GB of DDR2 ram at 1200Mhz could hardly run Vista Ultimate?
