Anyone play it? If so, can you give me a synopsis of what's fun to do? I'm playing the trial version and I feel like I've come across the first good MMO, though it just seems like there is so little you really can do (yeah, I know, one server and a gigantic universe, but I'm talking about missions and mining and how you never leave your space craft to dock on a planet or something).

I dislike it, you just train skills and wait for them to finish :|

Yeah, that's one of the biggies for me, but people keep saying that I should max out learning first so I can train skills faster and that all I'll ever really need to do in the early stages of the game is learn the first skill (which is usually like 30 -50 minutes of training). Some other requirements are ridiculous though. 17 days to drain Science Level 3? The trial will be done with by then.

My friend whom I know from school is a hardcore EVE player, he says there's a big update coming soon (next year or so, I forget when exactly) that will add a whole load of new features. You'll be able to exit your pod at stations and walk around inside with some sexy procedural walking animations, you can overload your ships power or something at the expense of heat dissipation, all models will get redone with more detail and polygons, all textures up-resed, basically a lot of good stuff.
As for now, I recently finished my 14 day trial and you're right. There isn't much to it right now, especially if you're a beginner. You can't really do anything fun and if you want nicer things then you need to mine for hours on end. I can see why people macro-mine; it's no fun at all. Anyway, I didn't see the point in continuing to play the game. You're always going to be mining for money and there's always going to be something more to buy or upgrade or train. There's no end to it so it doesn't seem very worthwhile to me. Although, that's how I feel about most MMO's. I played guild wars for a while and I liked that because at least it has an end to the main quest. MMO's aren't my thing.

The new visuals are coming pretty soon, the in-station is coming probably later, and equipment overloading has already been implemented.
Personally, I love EVE since there IS no end. You can't say "Oh okay, I'm done. Bye.", or "I've reached level 700, woohoo! I'm done!" It's less of a game than it is an alternate world, and in turn whether you're a beginner or not you can always get somewhere. Some corporations (= clans) recruit anyone and everyone, providing varying amounts of knowledge and/or financial assistance. Myself, I got into combat early and have barely done any mining or mission running ever, I live by the gun/missile. Things don't get that boring unless you're being totally owned by a larger or stronger force.
It's true though, it's a very slow game if you're new to it all. But you've got to start somewhere, and if you find the right bunch of like-minded pilots, things will go a good deal faster.
I'm currently taking a break from EVE, probably until Halo 3 hype dies down. At the same time though, everyone I've played with has taken a break from it at some point. But for the most part, they always come back. :)

1.5 months in, and i love it.
Join GearBox Corporation, ask in the channel GBE.
We're now part of the new alliance Brethren of the Sky (around 10 corps i think), and lots of blues means safe ratting :)
Oh, and guns and missiles suck, drones ftw :D

Oh, and guns and missiles suck, drones ftw :D
psht, drones are for losers who can't fight for themselves! (yeah, i've been killed by myrmidons and i'm sore. can you blame me? hehe.)
Personally I'm a fan of the NBSI policy. More blues = less fun, unless they got the firepower to collectively kick ass against other more rewarding targets. :)
oh, and I've subscribed for almost 2 years now.

NosMyrm ftw :)
More blues = safer ratting = easier iskies D:
yeah the alliance hq is moving soon, so we'll be moving a bit further from this other alliance...
we don't have war targets yet, but we do have people with negative standings.
the other good thing is, we hang out in this area where there's a 0.0 right next to a 0.5 :) (Devoid/Bleak Lands region)
EDIT: cons
blues = people with good standings with your alliance or corp, which means they're friendlies.
NBSI = not blue shoot it, so you kill reds and neutrals.

it's Gallente Online, tbh. I don't like gallente ships by design, and I prefer to fly ships that look good...I can fly almost all ships of all races besides the really high-end ones, but despite that I don't have any gallente ones in my hangars :p
and NRDS = not red don't shoot, neutral targets will not be fired upon.
and NAP = Non-Aggression Pact

Pfft, Gallente ships are more... Covenantish, so I like em :)
Caldari ships are ugleh, except for a select few (Merlin/Drake/Ferox/Rokh)
good god, the Moa and the Raven are just ugly.
Amarr ships look similar to Gallente, imo
Minmatar = scotch tape + bubble gum

Gallente look wayy to organic for my tastes. I mean, look at the Domi - flying sh*t tbh. Brutix - fat whale (It's got a badass aura about it though). Atron - wtf? Thorax - do I REALLY need to say anything here? :D
true, Caldari are mostly ugly, but I like the condor, kestrel, rokh, ferox, caracal, and drake. but when they're ugly, they're REALLY ugly :x
Amarr, I like how they curve but still have sharp, menacing, blade-like edges. i.e. executioner, geddon, apoc, abaddon
Minmatar - you GOTTA admit, they might use duct tape and assorted garbage, but the Rifter and Maelstrom look damn nice. The Hurricane is just pure :awesome:.
My personal favorites, in terms of both design and fighting style are the Hurricane and Malediction (dark green repaint of the executioner). I'm not really the tanking type.

Yeah, i love the looks of the Hurricane.. im kinda debating as to whether train for a Drake, or a Hurricane after i finish Hull Upgrades 5 :D
Lol, with my Myrm, i barely do 250 or so dps, but i'm loving the tank.. 4 named nosferatus is well enough to sustain 2 named repairers and named hardeners D:
Easily tanks lvl 3 missions, even though i lost my first one to lvl 3 Blockade :( (computer froze for 10 sec, sup pod)
too bad the nosferatu is getting nerfed soon.

August 13th, 2007, 11:53 PM
what? nos nerf? AWESOME. Some myrms are gonna be hurting once i get back! :)
I don't know if the drake still has a ridiculous tank - if it does, go for the drake. Personally though, I still prefer the hurricane. <3 <3 <3

yeah, drakes still have that awesome shield tank. i made a theoretical build in evefit, 12k hp in shield, with a 100s recharge time.
and 70+ resists on all

Eve rocks! If you're bored look into getting into a corporation. Until you're in 0.0 they'll be your primary source of entertainment. I was promoted through mine and am now CEO of a 45 member corporation. :D

Then you aren't doing anything you can. You should be going about running missions, mining, or working with another corporation/alliance.
I live in 0.0 with Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate. Lots of good people to have fun with there.

I would probably go on a mining spree, but all I have available to me are Frigates (they're the only ones I can afford and pilot; the cargo ones are like a million credits). Seriously. I'm Caldarian and own every Frigate (plus another rookie ship that the Corp decided to give to me for no odd reason in an remote system) and find myself bookmarking an asteroid field and making runs every three minutes because of my shitty storage capacity in my ship.
EDIT: No one is in the GBE channel.
Character's name is Agamar Atreides btw. Send me a message when you get on.

Jayden I think can bombard from 90+ kilometers away.

Some of your buddies were on. Must be West Coast people. I went with them to the new HQ and protected them on a mining mission. Pretty fun actually.
