Old PS2 Uses?

Well alright, I got my hands on a ps2 a while back because my friend bought a new one after this one broke on him. I was over his house oneday and took it apart to see what was wrong.

It had a very simple problem, the wires that connected to the power button had somehow come loose, so I just reconnected them, and tuhdah, it worked. So my friend apparently doesnt want it and has no use for it because he doesnt have the box or reseat for it so he cant return it... basicaly he said I could keep it.

So, now I have a ps2, its been sitting in my house for like 2 years now collecting dust, and I only recently remembered I had it, I never used it because I never got around to buying all the cables, controllers, and games to actualy play it, I was thinking I might buy the stuff to actualy use it, but I really have no need to play any playstation or playstation 2 games.

I was wondering if I could somehow use it for something else, I had heard that sony made a package for converting ps2's into a computer. It supposedly came with a ps2 compatible linux system a hard drive, usb mouse and keyboard and a network adapter of some kind. I read that somewhere on wikipedia, but they also said its not being sold in the US anymore...

So yeah any suggestions, sell it, try to scrap it... try and find this package to turn it into a pc? Idk what ima do with it otherwise, was thinking about selling it but its probably not worth much nowadays.

The PS2 has great games (especially MGS3 Subsistence). Buy the necessary peripherals and start gaming. Trust me, you will have a blast.

I also love using the Guncons in Time Crisis. Any PS2 gamer must buy a Guncon if he likes shooters. I think the Guncon even works on the PS3 with a PS2-to-USB adapter (the legacy gamepads work after all).

I'm actualy interested in the ps2 Linux Kit, but I doubt I'm gonna be able to get my hands on it :-/

They stopped making the NTSC versions in like 2004, however I do see one on ebay... hes asking for paypal payments only, and I dont have a paypal, or the ability to set one up. :(

My only method for buying stuff online right now is American Express Giftcards lol... I dont own a credit card (I'm 17)

EDIT: As for me going out and buying all the stuff to use it, id rather spend my money on the linux system for it (I hear u supposedly can develope games with it, but idk how far id get with that lol). My gaming days have well, seen better days. I enjoy a few games here or there, mainly on the pc, but I'm more into making stuff now 3d modeling, video editting, photoshopz.. idk I enjoy creating stuff (some for games) more than actualy playing them now lol.

...and the list goes on. The PS2 caters to practically any interest. Tough to warn you ahead of time, I wouldn't recommend online play; most games don't have cheat detection, and people love to hack the games into their favor. :/
