A truck was making a right turn and didn't see me. I was on my bike in the bike lane where cars have to stop for them, and he turned at the last second.

Bam we collided, I was only seconds away from being crushed under his tires when I jumped off the bike. All the adults and kids said it was like a scene from a movie, but not very pretty.

Remembering back to it (about an hour ago), those sounds that occured, though, were the best damn synced crash sounds I've ever heard in my life. Up close and fucking personal.

Minor injurys, just cuts and scrapes, I hope tomorrow my body doesn't decide to fail.

Bumper cars in teh RL on dirty streets is as low as you can get, I guess. I can barely piece all together what happened because it all happened so fast.

Anybody know how to get money to fix my bike? It's all fucked up, and I don't have anything other than my lambourfeetees to get around. :(

In a situation like this I'm sure I could negotiate something, but that's going to take fucking forever. :sigh:

Did you get the plates of the truck, or can you do so from any witnesses? Did you at least get the company logo on the truck?

You gotta complain to him or his company. You were right and he was wrong. It was a company truck and not a private pickup, right?

Trust me, it works. One time some idiot cyclist banged into the bank of my mom's Audi A6 and broke one of the rear lights and left a scratch. Worst part was he tried to cycle away, but I got out and pushed him and he fell off his bike and scraped his elbow. But he still had to pay every penny of the repairs to our Audi while my mom gave him a Band-aid.

et_cg
August 21st, 2007, 06:44 PM
lol, that's awesome, Buckshot, yeah I have all of his information and the company he works for, I just hope I can get reparations soon. Without my bike, or any bike, I am going to have one boring end of summer. That and I won't be able to do a lot of the stuff I have planned!

Bah, I'm going to tackle all this in full force tomorrow.

That's intense though, not only will I be getting a new bike (hopefully), but I got the band-aids and cleaner out of it today, too.

Gah, one day you go from finding out something that hurts you deep down, and the next day you get hit by a car. A sign maybe? I'll never know.

Reminds me of this one DH collision we had. During the summer my friends and I always do some down hill biking at Canada Olympic Park, its in my city and only about half an hours bike ride away from me. Anyhow, most of the DH paths are in the trees and the road on the right of this picture:
http://www.goski.com/trailmaps/403002.jpg
Now, the DH paths tend to cross the winding road on the right side a few times per trail, all vehicular traffic is supposed to travel that road very slowly and give the right of way to bikers. You've probably guessed by now whats going to happen. One day four or five of us came blasting out onto the road so that we could get some big air off of the jump on the other side, apparently the guy in the truck coming down the road at 50+ km/h didn't heed the signs, he hit one of my buddies full on.

Funny thing is, is that we all had heavy DH bikes, my friend got launched into the air but never got hurt, the entire front end of the truck was destroyed, the bike penetrated into the engine compartment somehow... It was narly.

The only thing I ever encountered was that I get really sick on a bus. So I asked the driver to stop, but he opened his doors while he was slowing down (50-60 km/h) and right at that moment I fainted, if I didn't cover my head when I fell out I would have hit the edge of a sidewalk with my head instead of my arms.

Nonetheless et_cg good thing you're still with us and I hope you won't go through something like that again man. Rly sucks.

Eh I've been in a couple of crashes myself. Boston drivers SUCK.

Course my most memorable crash was when right after it some people tried to convert me. Basically what happened was somebody ran a red light and almost hit me on my bike. I swerved out of the way and the car skimmed me enough that I went tumbling into the concrete and my bikes handle was a mess. I was also right outside a church. The moment I reassured everyone I was okay two people tried to convert me saying that The Lord would protect me or something. Worst part is when they kept at it for a while.

Course its great to survive a crash. Sure it seems bad at the time but it makes for some wicked stories.

Once again, thank you all for your support and your care.

It's now been a couple hours, I've rested a bit, and now that the blood flow's gone down and my adrenaline is at rest, I'm sore as shit. My knees hurt like hell now and my wrists have some pain. But meh, nothing that won't go away.

You've all been great over the times that I post stuff like this, and I really appreciate it. It means a lot to me.

That sucks dude, didnt you have a crash before and posted on here about it? Not having much lucky lately =\ Glad your okay though.

Yeah, that post was about nearly getting hit by that drunk public transportation driver. I had to stick around and spill the details as to what specifically happened to the cops.

And thank you, I hope this turns my tide on luck.

Oshi, I'd be pretty scared shitless if that ever happened to me. I'm glad to know that you're alive and well to this day, Chronos. It's really times like this that we appreciate what's happened and what will happen around us.

Thank you, and yeah, avoiding accidents like these in the future is a main concern of mine now. Too bad not every driver could at least be more aware of us Cyclists.

You have escaped Death and foiled its master plan. Keep your head up and always be on the lookout. Death will be coming back for you... :ssh:

jcap, you've earned my awesome quote award for the day. Because I had put this same thought up in my mind and on my blog earlier. It's really something that we face every day. Death. And I will do my best to avoid it and work with it accordingly.

Oshi, once again. All these irresponsible people on the road, you'd think that if a person actually was driving they'd be aware, but meh, not everyone is in the same exact mood when they drive. I'm glad to hear you're doing good, but heh, don't convert! It's good to know that you are alive and well to this day, too.

Isn't it just a bummer to know that you're wheels are in need of dire repair? And you won't be using it for a while? Ahh, that thought was the worst for mine.

Cycling; for life.

Yeah, I really wish I could enjoy it's glory with you. And I'm so GLAD to hear it's all up and running! That machines probably epic win compared to mine now. That, and you'll have my support for it in the future. I'll be your tech guy as much as I can assist you. lol

Thank you for your concern, I really appreciate it.

This reminds me of a story in which I told my friend, "I hope you get hit by a bus," and that very day he did.

:(

That had to be some crappy stuff right there. I remember when I was in 4th grade I was out as far as we could go on the field on the playground, and I pointed to where the intersection was to get on the road that goes in front of the school. While pointing I said, "Something bad is going to happen, and it's going to involve red."

The next morning on our approach to that intersection there was ambulances packing up a girl who I knew back in those days. The vehicle that was off to the side that had caused the collision was red. Basically she was crossing the road, I don't remember all the details, but she crossed, and the person hit her. She was gone for quite some time. Crazy to think I predicted it the day before and called the color of the vehicle. For god's sake I was a fourth grader, how's that shit happen?

Anyways, I'm really thankful for all you guys being here, and I'm learning more than ever who my real friends are. That situation yesterday proved to me that my current girlfriend is not the right one. I asked her to call me last I saw her, and I haven't heard from her since.

So headed down a much more clear path, today has helped discern and clarify what path I need to be taking now. Not only that, I'm building up some fine knowledge for my future.

To all of you,

<3 Forever

Meh, I feel bad that I can't really help you though. Thus far, you've not only helped me, but learned to cope with all of my questions (I am very aware of how annoying most of them were). Normally I don't ask so much, but I had to. Now that something has happened, I can't really help you. :\

I don't like sitting on the sidelines for anything, tbqh. Would be sort of cool if I lived in Oregon, oh well. Again though, I'd be in a chair with the leg(s) some what extended. Every once in a while, I'd get up and try to walk around a bit (make sure it doesn't hurt bad when you are doing it, or it isn't going to help), and stretch out your leg, just to keep it from getting stiff. Maybe get someone, something, or yourself to massage it some too. Oh yeah... ice, advil, aleve, and a heating pad. I'd switch between those often. And when I say Advil, I mean Ibuprofen (red); when I say Aleve, I mean Naproxen (blue). Doesn't really matter. Anyway, icing it and heating it is the most important part, so make sure you get that done. Get better soon!

Rooster, that's more than I could ever dream of from someone lately. I really do appreciate all that and I'll be on a quick road to recovery. The greatest thing about helping you out, is to know that it all worked out for you. I'm soo glad to hear that part. And to see that you want to give it back. Well. I just am flattered.

Haha, no competition for me, I'm sure if I was around you'd I'd be more of a trainer if we were cycling somewhere. I'd make you push yourself. I push myself, that's the only reason why I can do extended bike rides in a day. On top of that it's just me trying to rid of all these thoughts I've been thinking lately, because no one wants to hang out with me in person.

And that's all I need is some real people I can interact with on a usual basis now. It's so hard to go without real human contact.

Oh, as for the weirdness... people give me funny looks after they find out who I really am. :D I'm just really open, honest, and I do my best to assist. And somehow I'm weird for that. Shweeeet.

I keep reading over a lot of old material that's been relative to me and people interacting with me, and I keep piecing conformed, peaceful thoughts that are making me make better decisions.

And this thread, it is going to be something that I can look back at, and say;

Thank goodness I have those friends.

i look over personal trainers as motivators, because all they do is push people to work. So yea, you would just be a much faster cyclist than me, because i really dont need that motivation

wow, that sucks, I mean and you only have the one bike huh? thats pretty terrible, although good reflexes. I've never had a problem with losing bikes because my dad always collected old bikes and bike parts from the alleys around where we live, (and still does) and then made them into new bikes so I was cool. But seriously, that sucks.

In a recent accident I was in, the car hit me right on and I remember watching this college student/yuppee in his dad's lexus or whatever coming straight at my car door. And then for a few weeks after I had a minor case of post tramatic stress in which my body would begin to produce adrenaline seemingly at random. I remember getting pumped up with adrenaline wondering If someone had posted in my thread. It was crazy. I really hope you don't have the same experience.
