View Full Version : Well this isn't too good...

So for the last year or so I've had this off and on pain in my chest, directly at my heart. Every so often (like once or twice a week) it would give me a sort of flutter feel, where I could feel my heart beating abnormally (you know when you can actually feel your heart beating? Well for me, when it happens, I can feel it beat and then stop, then kick back in, like its skipping a beat but its causing a lot of pain and happening way to often) and it wasn't caused by anything, it would happen at the most random of times. Lately its been going on more and more often, just in the last few minutes of typing this it has happened twice, and its starting to feel bad, giving me pains and dizziness. I wasn't too worried about it but my mom saw me get dizzy and asked me what the problem was, being that she was a nurse when I told her she scheduled a Dr's appoint for me straight away, worried it could be something serious. I had my appointment today and the Doc didn't know what was causing it, he isn't sure if its something terribly serious or not, but I do have to have chest X-Ray, Electro Cardiogram (EKG), and a full blood work done, which all sucks. I'm not too worried about it but still, it could be something serious.
So yeah, this sucks. :(

That sucks dude. Some people have an irregular heartbeat, but as your young it shouldnt be that much of a problem and you should grow out of it.
Does it happen only after exercise or is it a regular thing? and a serious question (I know I say stereo types alot) are you morbidly obese because that can have serious effects on your heart.
Atty
August 22nd, 2007, 09:48 PM
No, I'm in pretty good shape, and it happens when I've exercised and when I haven't, I could be laying on the couch watching a movie and it will happen or I could be coming in from running. I can't pin point any action that sets it off, it just happens.

Oh gosh, Atty, I'm sorry to hear all about what's going on. It's weird though, sounds like a heart problem indeed. A very mysterious one. I have one in my mind right now, but I can't remember the name. Sounds very familiar to what's going on.
Thing like this tend to suck; I do hope all goes well and you don't have to experience these issues long term.

Actually, I do get random chest pains, but I don't know if they're heart related or not. Usually only last a few seconds at a time.

I get massive head pressure when going up altitudes or even just driving in the car and when I run I feel the inside of my head throbbing severely. It gets so bad it literally feels like my head is going to explode. No joke, it gets to the point of pain. I also get frequent migrains in the exact same place every time. Back of my head on the right side.

Sounds like something that was happening to me last year. I have no problems now, but I would feel my heart skip beats, or beat irregularly. This has actually been happening since the fourth grade for me, but less frequently now. Anyway, I'd get dizzy for no reason (though I tend to do that now, minus the chest pain) and have to sit down, stand still, or walk for a little to get it to wear off. Mine isn't really a problem though, so I hope yours isn't either.

you know whats wierd, thats the first thought i conjured.
Dont worry, if its a pain in your chest, it could be growing pains in your joints near your sternum. Once i had an inflamed joint that was connecting my ribs to my sturnum, and if i breathed too hard after excercising/whatever it would cause the joint to become pressured, resulting in me collapsing in pain--like my entire chest was collapsing on my heart. Turns out all i had to do was take some medication for the inflamation, and stop exercising for a month or two as it healed.

Hmm... This sounds familiar to something I've had... A few months ago, I was in Church, and I could feel my heart beating, but only for a few beats... then I started to feel a bit light headed, and hot... I passed out, and woke up a few seconds later feeling fine. It's weird, because if I take off my shirt, and look closely, I can see my heart actually beating through my chest.

That sucks dude, I hope you're ok at the end... Just curious, how is your diet and how much do you excerise if any?
Atty
August 23rd, 2007, 12:25 AM
I don't drink any sodas or coffee, not even energy drinks, I limit myself to water and lemonade, and those life/vitamin waters. As far as food goes I don't eat any fast food if I can help it (my first fast food in about 3 months was some Arbys while I was staying with a family member in the hospital, and even then it wasn't a terribly bad meal as far as fast food goes.) I keep a pretty healthy diet, I eat a lot of fruits and some veggies. The worst food I eat is stuff from our Deli at work, and even then its all pretty healthy and keep it to small amounts if its not. I'll also have the odd piece of cheese cake at home (my family always has some junk food in the house and sometimes you just can't say no) but I always consider what I've had before that day and what I'll be doing later, I try my best to stay away from oily and fatty foods.
My exercise is Crunches/Push ups nightly (well, at least 5 our of 7 days a week, some nights I just crash and forget), running when I can (on nights I don't work I go running for about 15 - 20 minutes), and I get a good work out at work because I'm on my feet for 6+ hours walking in and out of the store, working out side in the heat, and constantly in motion.
you know whats wierd, thats the first thought i conjured.

I acknowledge it could be something serious and am ready if it is but I'm not anticipating the worst. My family thinks its stress related because I don't exactly have the perfect life, but I don't know. I'm not going to jump to any conclusions right now. I'll wait for my chest x-ray (which I'm having on Friday), my EKG (to be scheduled), and my blood work (also Friday) to come back and see whats going on.

You probably just have an abnormal heart beat. My brother and I both have it. I started to notice it when sometimes I would breathe and there would be a sharp pain in my heart area. I could feel it struggle, but then get back to its rhythm.
It's not too bad of a thing to have. I do wrestling, ice hockey, and lacrosse; my doctor said I can still do them. One things however, if you ever need any type surgery, such as wisdom teeth removal, they have to sedate you to monitor your heart. It's pretty simple and easy, so don't worry too much.

i have a random thing in my ribs everynow and then
i havnt figured out exactly what causes it but it only happens rarely. basically my lower ribs feel like there getting stabbed. and it's that bad i literally yelp or go FUCK in pain.
now i hurt myself a fair bit, i smash into things i cut my hands ect ect while i'm working, so i've got a fairly good tolerance to pain, so it's pretty bad. goes away in like a second. i think mb my (shit cant remember) u know the diaphram? that moves up and down sucking air in and out of your lungs? anywya i think i get that caught on my ribs and it gets pinched or something.
anyone else had something similar to that?

Well I spent from about 10:30am today until about 3:30 in the ER having tests done, Chest X-Ray, EKG, and a full blood work, so far they didn't' find anything wrong so they discharged me (my primary doctor told me to go in, because they were having trouble scheduling any of the tests). They said they are going to hook me up to a heart monitor for a few days to monitor everything and see if they can pin point the problem, until then we still don't know what is going on.

Actually no. I would if I were straight, however I've learned to accept people for who they are because of that minority. No matter how much you hate it, theres nothing you can do about it, so just accept it. Thats what I did, in the process I accidentally fell in love.
It was actually a personal experiment to better understand human society and why they react to homosexuals the way they do, I understand why they react now and I don't blame them. However homosexuals ARE people and a valid group in society. You can't erase them, you can't ignore them, the only thing you can do is accept them and deal with it. Bitching and yelling about how its an abomination and wrong won't solve a thing since most solutions are EXTREMELY Immoral.
Somethings in life come natural, others you need to dive head first into the situation to learn, thats what I did. A few years later from my social experiment and I've never been happier with my life.:)

I don't know why, but I keep wondering if Atty is guy or girl. Not by the way the person posts. I don't know. I guess the y at the end makes me think girl whenever I see the name. So which is it?

About a year and a half ago. Quite a long time, relative to the internet.

I have been lurking for a long while and didn't notice that, so how do you expect another new member, one who HASN'T been observing how this forum works, to know who likes who?

Uh, dude. If your referencing me, I'm not new. I've been here since January and been with gearbox for two years. I just don't memorize everyone's relationships with everyone else. To be honest, I don't remember seeing Rossmum ever before two days ago.

You probably only ever posted in the CMT forums or some other team-specific or tech section.
Am I correct?
In any case, regardless of whether he could've feasibly known I was friends with Atty or not, he still charged in without a single thought and decided I was being the 'bad guy' I'd 'proven' myself to be in other threads. I'm pretty sure Atty can defend himself, and would be a much better judge of who is or isn't being rude to him.

So I said I'd try and keep you all notified but I've been very busy lately and not able to be so active, but here is the low down of late:
About a month or so ago my pains started increasing, they got to the point where I was passing out from the pains. They've run as many tests as they can and say they see no problem yet I'm still suffering from the pain, which has gotten considerably worse, and I've been passing out, which I can't fake. I've spent a few days in the hospital on constant watch but still they can't pinpoint whats causing the problem. Unfortunately they've told me that the way its progressing my heart could fully fail at any time, I have to keep myself from overexerting myself, and have to be constantly around someone in case I pass out.
So yeah, thats whats up right now. I don't know what else to say but I just thought I'd let you all know, so yeah...I'll try and be active and keep you all informed of any developments.

This happens to me alot mostly at night

shizzle, needless to say, that sucks. :/ Sorry to hear that Atty. A while ago (over Xmas break), I started doing a few pushups a day (50 or so). Then I started getting an off/on pain in my chest, and other areas of my upper body. I was a bit scared, and felt like I was going to pass out many times. I don't know if it was releated to working out (which I hardly ever do) but mysteriously the pain seemed to go away. Have you done any thing "out of the norm"?
oh yeah, and I remember seeing something like this on Diagnosis X (or maybe it was mystery diagnosis). A guy was getting pain in his chest area due to his heart getting a lack of Potassium and Sodium. But he was also getting some pain in his hand, sharp pain. They did a test where he pissed in a cup, and they left it out over night. His pee turned purple (exposure to sunlight and air and such), and that's how they found out what's wrong with him.
I dunno, it kinda sounded similar to what you described.
Sorry to hear what you're going through Atty. :( Must be real scary. :/
I hope the best for you.

No, my life is mainly the same way as it was before it all started happening. I'm fairly healthy, before this got really bad I was working out nearly everyday each week, eating healthy, and doing my best to stay healthy, it just sort of came out of nowhere. As for you, that pain in your chest is probably the muscles in your chest growing or just chest pains from that kind of workout when you aren't in a very fit condition, not sure though.

I had that same pain when I started doing crunches frequently. It was just under where the abs connect with the ribcage. I expect I worked them too hard and strained the ligaments (is that the right word?).

i've got a weird thing that comes and goes. about once every couple of months for about 2 seconds it feels like someone has ran a samurai sword through my ribs. then it disappears mysteriously.
dunno whether muscle is getting caught in between my ribs or something like that, but more often the nnot it gets me when my backs contorted, say if i'm lying on the couch with on arm on the rest holding my upper body up.
weird :o

This kinda reminds me of the pains i used to get
I used to get pains through my body, that would feel like almost as if there was a clunk of small food in my blood, it felt as if the pain would circle my body, but now its gone, Idk what happened though.
Also, ive permanantly disabled my leg from excercising i think, It can bend too far in the wrong direction easily, and it hurts :S
Snowy
March 7th, 2008, 09:12 AM
^that's exactly how I felt. But the "chunk of food" would stay on the left side of my chest. It wouldn't necessarily hurt, but I know it wasn't right.

Reminds me of the times I used to get these sharp pains in my chest. Actually until now I haven't noticed it stopped........
I had that too...normal part of the growing process. Don't breath in that much air...because if you it will give you a sharp pain again...it's gone after a few seconds though. :D

Super "healthy" people can bite the dust just as easily as Mr. 500lb-sumo-jumo can. You could be out running then all of a sudden *BAM* heart stops & ur face smacks into the pavement with a crack :gonk:.
Theres this guy I know, he had chest pains for the longest time. Turns out it was his eye medicine drops that was giving him the chest pain. Doctors are stupid :v

another dude i used to know had his farther die young from a heart attack.
so he was determined to be super fit to stop it from happening. So he took up bike riding and used to ride all over the country side.
unbelievably fit he was.
about 2 years ago he had a heart attack in his sleep, and died. i think he was only 55.

Just to let you know, you pretty much described me to a T about a year ago, Atty. My problem (still is one, too) was slight food allergies. I would get a sharp pain after eating something I wasn't supposed to (wheat, onion, garlic), and would get small red bumps on my skin and have breathing problems. This, combined with my acid reflux caused me to pass out on 2-3 occasions.
