Im an Australian and i was watching the news while eating dinner. My dad likes to watch it. A mother and father in a family of four have one of their kids diagnosed with some form of cancer, (Can't remember the name) and the kid, around the age of 8 was cared for at a hospital in Sydney. The hospital did all "they" could do. The mother said that she was told that he had 6 months to live, and there was nothing they could do. She didn't believe it, and obviously as any mother would, she didn't think it to be true.

She then did research and over the net through forums found many mothers with the same situation. Word got to her about a hospital in New York, (Also forgot name) it is said to be the best Cancer treatment facility in the entire world. The family tried their hardest to save up. They did what they could and flew over there. They started treatment on this young boy, and even though he was said to have 6 months to live, he has now been living for 2 and half years, and has had his tumor removed!!!!!!!!!!! The treatment is very expensive and Australians have been generous in donations, but get this... The Australian government refused to give them funds for their overseas health crisis because they supposedly can't give money to a cause that is not 100% sure to be a success. BUT GUESS WHAT. The American government has donated over 150,000 AUS dollars to them.

The family has hence forth sold their house and ALL moved into a Ronald McDonald house in New York. They family of four share ONE ROOM TOGETHER!!! And the government still refuses to give them money. Well, the Australian one. It is not 100% that the kid will live and pass his disease but he is living proof that there can be a HUGE chance as he has already been alive for over 2 years longer than what he was told in Australia.

Ok, government can easily give away 1 million dollars as they either have so much money its not funny that they spend on stupid unneeded shit, and that they make so much on fines and all the other ridiculous schemes governments have to raise their revenue that they seem to think they can't give away money, because of a small exception in their law that it must be a 100% success. I don't know about you but i think that is absolutely F^&*ING stupid. I would give away 1 million dollars if i could make it back in half a day to see someone have a fighting change and have better quality of life than to just let them die. GFG GOVERNMENT.

Ducky.

Yeah. Our health system blows, and the Government aren't too fabulous either. Then again, Labor aren't much better.

btw the town ballina (an hours drive from where i live) just released info on the revenue they got from parking tickets.

they received 1.1 million dollars in parking fines alone. double that of the nearest city. they worked it out and apparently every man, women and child pays $38 a year in just parking fines.
i have so much faith in the system.

sleep now in the fire.

It does and i would love to see the government ACTUALLY think about the people who are really in need. Who knows what they do with so much money. It's quite sickening. :(

not to mention the 16 billion dollar surplus they have left over from this years budget.
and where the fuck is that all going?
advertising on how great they are.

elect me as supreme overlord and i will fix this mess.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? See this is what i mean, governments are so selfish. They would probably think that we would "benefit" more from a huge freeway from here to the god damn moon and back than give money to a bunch of extremely sick people who are in urgent need of funding to live. And hey, those people wouldn't get to see if not use that fucking freeway!!! :(

Our local council is shockingly bad... their definition of 'roadwork' is to send a bunch of guys out to pat dry tar into the potholes, then spend 3 hours slacking off. Meanwhile, they pay out for all sorts of shit we don't need...

Governments always screw up, but we'd be way worse off without them. Lesser of two evils.

FluffyDucky™
August 28th, 2007, 06:06 AM
Yep, like a speed camera on every single road. What does that do? I'm pretty sure we have enough and we know that speeding is dangerous. But for people who don't care, they wont stop because of a fine. The government does it so they have more money, which just gets spent on shit.

Life is too short, at least help the people whose lives have been cut shorter, more time to enjoy things that others have their whole life to do. :(

yes and no.

my cousin fell out of a hammick one day on his ass. everyone laughed. later on a plane, so as his mates drove him to the airport, hitting every speedbump/ pothole they could find at full speed.
then he had to sit on 3 hour plane trip and when he arrived he went to the emergency department at the nearest hospital. they had him sit on his ass for 6-8 hours?

turns out he had a broken tailbone.

look the health system in australia is terrible when it comes to emergency's because i remember having to endure a much longer waiting time with a broken arm. not a broken wrist... like my arm was at 90 degrees.
.

Theres also a massive shortages with nurse's and ambo drivers. apparently over 90% of all ambulance drivers atm are all trainees.
so guess what the gov's response to this was?
a 10% pay cut.

i wish to god i knew where that 16 billion dollars is going cause as far as i can see i've only seen advertising about how this "leader sucks, elect me".

8 for suspected appendicitis. Oh don't mind me, I could have a life-threatening condition, why don't you go on ahead and make me sit in a shitty plastic seat all night :downs:

Bloody lucky it turned out not to be.

funny story that ross.

same thing happened to me. they made me walk up and down a hall for hours even though my mum (who was a nurse btw) was telling them that i had appendicitis.
turns out she was right. if i went into the emergency room an hour later i wouldnt of survived. it like exploded as soon as they took it out.

bloody lucky my mum was a nurse.

Wasn't in Canada long enough to judge, but I think it's pretty good. England's is overstretched, but probably still better than ours.

Anybody who makes more then a certain amount of money should be forced to give away a portion of it. Like all of those uber multi-million/billionares.

Actually, if you look at it percentage-wise, the uber-billionares give away about 10% of their money to Government, while the Middle-Class give away 45% of their money.

Thank you for that sound and factual statement. Years of research have surely paid off in your department.
