Cannot run Halo 2, HELP!

I am desperate for help as I have scoured the internet and cannot find any solution. I just installed Windows Vista (home premium) as an upgrade from XP SP2. Promptly afterwards I installed Halo 2 and was ready to play. Now every time I open it up I get an error that LIVE gaming for Windows failed to initialize, and it asks me to reinstall the game. I have reinstalled several times and cannot get it to work. Please help! This is the Problem signature:

I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.40GHz
2 gigs of RAM
and a GeForce 8800

Maybe try installing the (few days ago released) live update manually? Update all drivers for your graphics card and sound card. I've also read that upgrading from xp to vista is not the best thing to do if you want to play h2v.

Dual boot works fine too, you do need 2 (or more) partitions though.

Normally an upgrade should not give any problems, but that is if done correctly. Did you remove your antivirus before upgrading? And did you remove programs that the vista setup warned you that would not work on vista.

try the following if you did the upgrade correctly:

New video card/sound card drivers
Latest updates from direct X (somewhere on ms website)
Scan for viruses and spyware
Try installing it in a not standard directory (this solved problems for some games with me)
Install LIVE update manualIf nothing helps and you want to play halo 2 so badly, you can always do a clean windows install.


PS: About the upgrade not being good; that's not true, I've read an article in a magazine where they tested a clean install and upgrade from several computers, and there was not a single problem running games. But there can always be exceptions.

the problem with upgrading is that most people's PCs aren't in that great of shape... if there is something wrong with... your PC it'll still be there when you upgrade...

if you format... there goes your problems... but you get new problems... therefor that study or whatever in that magazine isn't that accurate. Sure if you use two of the same PCs brand new... install XP on one then upgrade it to vista... then just throw vista straight on the other.... they'll run the same pretty much.

Well I have done all these things before I posted, and I did turn off User application control or whatever it's called (retarded things that prompts you when you start programs). My comp had no problems before the upgrade and it is a fantastic machine. I guess I'm going to format and clean install vista. Do I have to install XP before Vista? Because I bought the Upgrade version.

I'd try vista at once, if it don't work... install xp first.

When you got your DVD. You where upgrading from XP to Vista. Doing this in reverse order is a bad idea. My suggestion is to backup all your files you want to keep and make a clean install of xp. And if you can( Witch I higly suggest.) Go out and get a internal hard drive. install it and make a partition. Witch will give you a clean install of Vista. And you have both Xp And Vista.

And Hard dives don't cost all that much. I recently got a 160 Gb for $70

Belive me you won't like having vista as your only OS.

You don't need a second hd to install both xp and vista, you can make 2 (or more) partitions on 1 drive.
