View Full Version : Prison Level. 16000 Polies.

I'm trying to make a prison level for Halo, but the poly count is just over 16000 in the main room alone. How much of a problem is this? It's three floors, if anybody is confused as to how I managed this.

I'm pretty sure the guidelines are somewhere around 5,000 for a gun, 10,000 for a vehicle, and 100,000 for a map, poly-wise.

Blame the tuts I learned off of.
Maybe it's something more like 50,000, I'm not sure.

No its more then that, my freind combinded the 2 Exterior Bsps of c10 together, and it compiled

All I know is that the map lags Wings atm, though that could just be because of the way Wings renders its models. I AM planning to have some more rooms outside the basic jail, but I wanted to see if this'd work first.
I'm kinda excited, now... I thought I'd have to chop off another floor or something (technically, it's supposed to be four floors, but I found that a tad excessive).

They advise you 10,000 polies, but you can go way over that.

Not really a poly limit, as long as good portalling is made.

weapons now a days can be anywhere between 3.5k to 8k triangles. vehicles can be up to 8ish. levels can be crazy. as long as proper portaling is applied. i have made a map with 30,000 tris and it ran perfectly fine without portals. so keep goin then portal it. should come out fine.

there's really no poly-limit for maps. like the people say, just smack enouhg properly placed portals in there, and itll shine like a freshly polished baby's ass

naw its 10,000 ish for a map I think it said in the hek tutorial I forget... but Death island is believed to be close to 20,000...
16,000 should be ok but if your going to be adding a lot more to it I recommend making some good portals to make the game run more smoothly

16,000 should be ok but if your going to be adding a lot more to it I recommend making some good portals to make the game run more smoothly

like tweek said. no limits as long as it has portals. teh lag got up to 300,000 polies.

Can we see this prison map of yours? Is it shaping up?
I'd think so, but I want to get everything working to a certain point before I show anybody. Right now, you fall through the third and fourth floor, so it's going to need some more work ><
