k new thread for this, don't want to spam the offtopic gallery thread, so here's a new thread YEEEEEEEEY! :iia:
i'm goint to be using spoiler tags for all the images, because else, this post/thread will get stupidly stretched etc, because i dont use shot tags .
also, expect lots of gay bumps, of this topic, since ill be updating this regularly, because i feel like it.
this is where you can whine at me, bitch at me, crit me, whore me, ask me, abuse me, love me, as much as you want k.
old picxx: (latest at bottom)
i'll put all images i post here in this bit, so all i've done can be seen in 1 post, simple yes? no? /care!

-------
first of all, here's what i'm working from.
http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07362/48_41725.jpg
yeah, way to go concept, after having another look at what i made, i saw that stuff kinda needa to be able to rotate. and right now it can't.
that means i've got to revise stuff AGAIN to make it able to rotate, and that will propably mean modifying more than just one piece of the thing, sad.
here's the bit im talking about.
http://xs319.xs.to/xs319/07364/gawddamnit.jpg
also more or less finished this part, added the bit where the joint will go in. wich will propably need more revising, but i'll blow that bridge when i get to it. it's also asymmetrical, wich means moar work, but it propably was worth it, since it means ill have to mess aroud with it a whole lot less when i get to the point of making that joint WORK.
img of (more or less) finished top.
http://xs319.xs.to/xs319/07364/kadunk.jpg
i'll propably start drawing up some plans for that foot, because it needs to get done. it looks WAAY unstable as it is now, and that just ruins the overall look of it.

fixed that joint, not much else, started drawing the system for the foot-bit.
better render for patty :P
http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07364/betterrender.jpg
also made a little test, to see the freedom of motion this piece has at the moment. it's not a whole lot, might have to work on that a bit later, but propably not. in animation you would propably not even notice slight interseting, especially with motion blur applied.

worked on the foot. worked out pretty damn good if i say so myself.
the articulation system works as well, so that's a good plus. i'll stull need to add the hydraulic cables to it, but that's the easy part.
three pics this time, front and back, and a full view.

it's got a damn nice looking footprint too. but i'll save that for a later time.

Here's what I think the joint problem is. You're thinking that that piece there is attached to the rotating joint. It looks to me like it's some sort of cover, that's in front of it. Here's what I mean:

okay, made a start on the body, wich at the moment, is way out of proportion, now sure how/why/where etc, but proportions are easy to fix.
ill proapbly just build the rest of the body, and then start modyfying it a bit to fix the proportions.
it's propably just my own fault for not measuring it all out before i started, and now im stuch with a disporoportionised model xD.
img:
http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07366/bodystart.jpg
another one:
http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07366/bodystart2.jpg
if anyone has the eye for spotting what's wrong, proportion wise, please post, and enlighten me, because i can't seem to figure out why it looks off.
different kind of image, just a viewport grab this time, since it shows all the angles alot better imo.
hoping to do alot of work on it today, but meh, i'll see how it ends up at the end of today.
also made a timelapse video.

it's kinda tacky, but less boring than the other ones, since i'm actually doing stuff here.

The yellow line in your model, seems way to short. And the green line, your model doesnt even have. And for the red, yours seems a bit short.

September 8th, 2007, 04:15 PM
well i'm not making it EXACTLY like the concept, since thats physically impossible, and the body needs to be tilted back a bit. but that's just not done yet for easy editing.
not sure what your awesome lines are for though :/

Since you were testing out movement of stuff, I'm guessing you're going to animate it. Any idea of what sort of animation you're going to do with it?
Tweek
September 8th, 2007, 05:31 PM
don't know yet, right now, i want to get the model done first, then i'll need to rig it (wich shouldnt be too hard, basic skeleton, and some contraints should do the trick.) THEN ill worry about animating it.
actually, i know a guy i work with, who animates robots non-stop, in his free time, might let him have a go at this one when it's done, and if he's up for it.
to be honest, i wadn't thinking about animating it yet, but i just want stuff to be realistic, and working, and not have it look like it CANT even work.
trust me, i've got some of those, and i still want to do those over someday.
also, i'm just too damn much of a perfectionist, and tbh, it's a bit of an obstacle sometimes. >_>

September 10th, 2007, 12:48 PM
i didn't do any work at it at all yesterday, so i'm actually behind schedule with this thing now :saddowns:
not a whole lot of more work done, but enough to warrant an extra post.
so i've added the optical bits, most noticably, the ones on the front/bottom.
it adds alot of character to it all, actually. can't want to see it when i get it done. this stuff motivates me when i finally see it all coming together a bit.
also started a bit on the bit wich i just refer to as the penis-bit, due to suggestive placement
not done yet, but blah.

this shows penis-area
http://xs119.xs.to/xs119/07371/largetimageszzff.jpg
i've also added some armor plating at the front of it.
wich is propably wrong, since im not that familiar with military stuff.
if this makes absolutely no sense, please tell me, and tell me why, since i'd like to get it somewhat acurate.

I thought that the original work was a rear shot. The things up there look like boosters or something, and the "front feet" you've designated look like they're pointing in the wrong direction to be front feet. That and the guns are facing the other way. But I could be wrong.

I dunno, that part seems to kind of take away from the overall look. The modeling is top notch, but I think it would look a bit better if you continued with/added onto the carapace-type look. Otherwise I think it looks really nice!

that kinda reminds me of Dog from HL2 :3
what are those square peices on both sides of the upper legs for?
I assume this thing is massive against a human so are they refueling points or what?
also, I don't like those "strike face" things. what are they for?

I would keep the plates and get rid of the notation. It would make sense to have "strike plates" on the undercarriage of a crawler in case it became high centered while negotiating an obstacle. It looks absolutely great. Just out of curiosity, what is the poly count so far?

yes, it's for a nice normal map.

October 4th, 2007, 07:07 PM
no it's not.
i'm done with it, cba doing any more work on it.
ill spend some time doing proper renders, but i dont care about the model anymore. i'm done with that.
it WOULD be for a normalmap, but because this isn't somethign that'll end up being used in anything, i'm not going to bother with it.
