View Full Version : The off topic question thread

This will be a thread which contains questions about....anything. Well, I'll put all my random questions in here anyway. (you can to if you feel like it)
First question: You know those videos on youtube where somebody makes a flamethrower simply by filling a supersoaker or other water gun with gas? In my experience gas melts soft plastics, but I'm not sure if it would melt the hard plastic of my water gun. I don't want to ruin it because I just got it. Also, realistically what are the chances of the thing blowing up? What if I shoot it into the flame from far away? I don't want to lose a hand...

I wouldn't do it. Chances are you'll hurt yourself or the gun.
Second question: anyone know of some nice, good quality anime style 3D characters that I could use?

Chances of blowing up are pretty high. Once the flame reaches the tip of the gun, you are pretty much fucked. The flame will ignite the inside fuel and the pressure will build up causing an explosion of fire, unburned fuel that will soon burn, and burnt plastic. Do not try it unless you want to have burn marks on your body.

Try here. (http://ww5.et.tiki.ne.jp/%7Ehoshi_k/cypher/cyphers.html)
You will need a program called Metasequoia (http://www.metaseq.net/english/index.html) to open the .rok file
and an a way to change it to .lwo using this exporter (http://www.ss.iij4u.or.jp/%7Ekoizuka/roklwo04.zip).

Do not try it unless you want to have burn marks on your body.Last time I heard there was some kind of chamber with prevented that from happening. Besides, I don't really think that the temperature in which gas ignites is so low that it allows it to burn up the stream like that. I'll research it more before I do anything omg stupid.
13.5 inches long and 6.25 around.Figured it would be bigger. :/ (well, longer)

Pussy. A unshaven one though, so no one wants.
You've got three pidgins, six women, and nine condoms. You've got to make it to level 9 before level 3's main theme finishes, using only 10 minutes of your second lives time line. If you don't succeed you've failed.
Now, answer this question: If the elephant blocks the slope, what happens?

Well you obviously you make it blow up the condoms and use the inflated condoms as a means of transport. Then give the elephant 297 milligrams of LSD and it will die, and fly away with your condom balloons.

The latent heat of vaporization of water at 1atmospere is calculated to be 2260.44J/g
So it takes 540J of energy to break the strong bonds of hydrogen atoms and convert the water into a steam. This is at the regular 100 degrees of C.
Now lets assume that we are in the Himalayas. The atm pressure at the altitude of 8000M is only about .3 of the atm pressure at the sea level.
The boiling point of water at 8000m moves down from 100 degrees C to 75.5C
Question - will the lower pressure also affect the latent heat of vaporization constant?
I sound to me that it should be lower as the pressure decreases. Because of the lower pressure, less force is required to break the compressed bonds of the hydrogen atoms.
Please elaborate.
?
I also have additional question.
How much energy is required to distill the 1 liter of salt water into fresh water at 8000m?
Assuming the boiling point of water is 75.5C
Also,
I would assume that at least some fraction of the energy that was used to boil the water, comes back into the system as the water vapor cools down and releases that extra energy.
Whoever answers correctly gets something shiny, rep perhaps.

But then I said it equaled 2 dogs because (1/cat) is the inverse of a cat, thus (1/cat) = a dog
