Games for Windows – LIVE gets an update (1.1)

We recently released an update to Games for Windows – LIVE. With version 1.1 you have 12 new gamer pictures to choose from, a new Network Information Viewer, and support for additional languages (Russian, Polish, Czech, Norwegian, and Dutch). The update also includes support for Windows XP SP2 as well as DirectX 10 on Windows Vista – however these will not be as noticeable by consumers but will prepare Games for Windows – LIVE for the upcoming launch of new titles later this year, including Gears of War and Viva Piñata for Windows. To see a list of all the Games for Windows – LIVE titles that were announced at E3 earlier this year click here (http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Community/NewsArticles/Pages/GFWE32007.aspx).

Why does it say that it has support for XP SP2???

BTW this is that August update.

Heres the link. http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Community/NewsArticles/Pages/GamesforWindowsLIVEupdate.aspx

Im confused.

Microsoft originally said that H2V was vista exclusive because the Live service took advantage of Vista features and would not be possible on XP. They've proven themselves liars by having GoW:PC XP and Live compatible, and also with this update.

^which also shows how desperate they are.

trust me. this is good news :D

good news how? Microsoft always tries to enforce a front of new features rather than "wasting" their time fixing their mistakes. I don't see this going anywhere special for us.

It might be because since now M$ says GFWL works on XP, we might hear something new about it.

Nope. H2v was their fuck up run. A game they didn't pour much money into to begin with, so it's understandable they used it as a test run for all the fuck ups, and to see whether people actually will bother with GFWL.

because we dont wnat them to fix there mistake.

GFWL has been the biggest load of shit since microsoft bob. Pay for previously free features????? PFFT

this shows that there penny pinching is really hurting them and that the service is failing.

hopefully in another 6 months the trend will have continued and they will be forced to shut the hole thing down.

This is good news.

what's wrong with microsoft bob? (I've never tried him though..)
TBH I think clippy would have been a better one to use.

it'd be better news if they finally came out with an official patch to run H2 on XP (with multiplayer).

Would have been a huge fucking hit had they released for XP. I myself, and many other thousands of people would have got the game. Regardless of bugs.

Oh, but then we might actually be able to create something original which they couldn't claim credit for :downs:

I'm usually quite tolerant of their marketing strategies, but H2V pushed it way too far.

I thought we were allready doing that with CE >.>

I don't think MS had much involvement in CE at all, though.
