Well I Was Thinking About Putting Up A Halo 2 Server. I ran a Halo 1 Server for 3 years and was easy to setup. I just got Halo 2 but setting up a H2 server seems to me a little complicated.

I would like to put up a server Like I had in Halo 1

Game Type: CTF
Weapons: ROCKETS ONLY!
Vehicles: All
Teams Damage: OFF
Auto Balance: ON
5 Caps Wins The game
Time Limit: 30 Mins

Having a rotation of a maps list!

So Can any of you Halo 2 Dedicated Server Guru's help me setup a Halo 2 Server With The parameters I have above? :confused2:

Thanks In advance ;)

Look at the example.hpl file, that's an example of how to create variants and make a maplist. For more info look in the servers readme file.

Ok thanks, I found a site with alot of different varients

IE:http://ganai.com/archives/2005/02/20/halo-2-custom-game-types/

I booted up h2 game and booted up the MULTI Flag of Capture the flag but the map only has 1 flag. MY base had a flag the other team did not have a flag at their base stand what going on?

side note: still have no idea how to get the server up and running. Its really confusing compared to Halo

Can ne1 post a real server config file here and just change the name on it so I can see haw to start the server. That would make it real easy.

Thanks

If you were in a server by yourself on multi flag ctf, the other team don't have a flag until there's someone on their team playing. It's to stop people scoring when no-one is there.

Ok thanks that make sense.

Now all I need to do is figure our how to start the server lol. I need a config file to see how to run the server. In Halo 1, all u needed was the .ini file. In H2 what a bitch to setup lol. There should be a sticky on these forums with a startup file example for H2 Dedicated Server lol

Thanks

That's the example.hpl file i was talking about, that is a real server config file. Just edit it to your liking. It's located in the ded-server map.

And just for your info, hosting a h2v-ded is totally different from hosting a halo1 ded. So make sure you also read the servers readme otherwise you won't understand how to get it up and running.

I have been reading just was just testing with the lan

after I ran "h2server.exe -lan"

ok now it wants a play list. How do I create one?

is it a .ini file?
is it a .txt file or what?

The docs dont tell you squat!!

I need samples

Thanks

And again, that is the example.hpl file (open it with notepad). Edit it (if needed) and save it with a different name. You have to put it in the right map too, something like 'my documents\my games\halo 2\server', but that depends on what OS you're running it. Should be easy to find though.

Thanks Vicky, I give up This Microsoft LIVE Crap is for the birds! I have had servers for UT2004, Tribes 1 and Tribes 2, Tribes Vengeance and Halo And Halo CE. And never did I have to go thru all this crap just to put up a sever. I did notice In the silver group there are not all that many people play on the silver group anyways. It will be a cold day in hell when I pay a Game Developer to play to get on a server. IE GOLD GROUP AND ABOVE!!

Again Thanks Vicky Take Care!!

Well it aint that hard to get it up and running, but i gotta agree its a lot more work than halo1 for example.
It's never very very busy on h2v but it appears the amount of players is slightly growing over time and when i host it's usually pretty busy here and it's 'just' a silver server.
